Christian prophecy for the church and for the nations from a servant of God called to speak God’s word

A CRYING SHAME: CHARLATANS in the HOUSE

I wrote earlier on another post about certain people ‘whoring’ the gospel for their own selfish ends, pimped on by some in the church. I came across this article which echos my sentiments.

This following article is by J. Lee Grady of Charisma Magazine:

Churches and ministries are employing bizarre gimmicks to raise money. What has happened to our discernment?

You’ve probably heard it on Christian television before. An evangelist opens his Bible, reads a Scripture and then suggests that you send an odd amount of money to keep your favorite program on the air for another month.

He begs. He pleads. He cries. And then he tells you that if you hurry and give right now, “while God is stirring the waters,” the Holy Spirit will reward you in an extra-special way.

I’ve heard different amounts suggested-such as $64.11, or $72.14, or $53.24, to correlate with some obscure Old Testament Scripture reference. The implication is that if you write a check for this magical amount, God will release some kind of special blessing on you, such as the salvation of loved ones or the quick sale of a house.

To the untrained ear this may sound like a formula for blessing. Actually it is more akin to superstition-or worse, witchcraft. It’s not even remotely biblical, but those of us in the charismatic movement are so used to tolerating such shenanigans that we think this is standard procedure for fundraising.

Some ministers who raise money for Christian television stations have succumbed to the infamous “debt reduction” tactic. It goes like this: “God says that if you will give a $1,000 sacrificial offering right now (God always seems to be in crisis mode in these situations), you will supernaturally get out of debt! The miracle anointing is here! You can release it by writing that check! And we take credit cards, too!”

Talk about voodoo economics. This kind of manipulation is actually against the law in Canada. The U.S. government allows American evangelists to get away with it, but that doesn’t mean it’s right. It is a spiritualized form of arm-twisting.

And believe it or not, it is getting more blatant and bizarre.

A widely traveled minister recently gave a message about what he called “the Boaz anointing” at a prominent church in Florida. He then invited anyone who wanted this “new” blessing to come to the altar, where gullible souls were encouraged to deposit a check for $1,500 in the basket. Apparently the Boaz anointing can be yours if you can afford this hefty price.

At another church in my city of Orlando, a self-proclaimed prophet said that he would have a personal word of blessing to pronounce over any person who could give $1,000 in the offering. That’s right- he was selling personal prophecies. Those who actually gave the amount (yes, some people actually fell for this charlatan) stood up to receive “words.”

I want to rip my shirt in half and throw dust on my head.

Why should we be surprised that the church in America is making such a weak impact on society when we are allowing greedy impostors to pollute our pulpits? They are no different than the sons of Eli, who took the people’s offerings “by force” so that they could spend it on their own selfish wants (see 1 Sam.2:12-16).

They have fallen into the error of the sorcerer Simon, who offered to buy the power of the Holy Spirit so that he could impress people (see Acts 8:18-20).

And what happens to the people who buy into this craziness? I’ve heard some suggest that “God will bless anyone who gives,” even if they give to a crook. That’s hogwash. Seed must be sown in good ground if it’s going to produce. Those who use manipulation, strong-arm tactics or Scripture-twisting to get money, or who sell the anointing of God so they can buy clothes and houses are not going to release any form of blessing.

In fact, they just might release curses-of poverty, bankruptcy, fraud and confusion. Such dark forces actually follow ministries that have given themselves over to this spirit of financial manipulation. The Bible actually says that charlatans-those who follow the “error of Balaam”-will face a harsh judgment in the “black darkness” of hell (Jude 11,13).

What can you do about this? You don’t have to stop giving. God loves a cheerful giver, but He does not want us to give under compulsion. Nor does He want us to reward the modern sons of Eli.

Speak out. Confront those who misuse the Bible to dig for money.

Change the channel. Get up and walk out. Give to ministries that focus on meeting real needs and maintain ethical accounting  standards. This financial foolishness will end when all of us take a stand.

  1. I often hear the word Mega church and High church..When people gather in the name of Jesus..there is repentace, healing..People who gather in His name are christians..Many of those who have gone before us have had to count the cost for many lost their lives for the sake of the gospel..Those like Peter and Paul and today those on a missionary field wait to die for the cause of Christ..not one time is their mention of a mega church as glory is given to the Lord our God for those who have been brought to the Lord…A man was sitting at the temple gate..He had been there for many years begging as he was lame..The gate was called Beautiful..when Peter and Silas saw him, Peter said..Gold and silver I do not have..but rise and walk in the name of Jesus and the man entered the temple leaping and praising God..We have all sat at the gate Beautiful..crippled in sin until someone told of of Jesus and our hearts leaped and praised the Lord for joy…Do you remember that day?..The day you were saved and the Lord gave you new life in Him..Do you remember when you could not put the word down..When you boldly told thers what Jesus did for you?..How you enjoyed praying not to ask for riches but to just be alone in the presence of God..When all you wanted was to glorify God in your life..Go back..go back to your first love..then go stand at the gate beautiful and tell others that they will not be crippled in sin but leap and praise the Lord ..JESUS IS THE SAME TODAY AS YESTERDAY..THE BLOOD STILL FLOWS FROM CALVARY TO ALL MEN WHO HAS AN EAR LET HIM HEAR…

  2. Not to be crass or facetious, but it was Peter and John who met the man at the gate Beautiful (Acts 3:3); it was Paul & Silas who were both imprisoned for loosing the damsel with the spirit of divination (Acts 16:25). However, I do agree with everything else, & when you really examine the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark & Luke)& the book of John, you’ll see that most of these things we currently call “Mega Church”, “church movement”, etc. are really nothing more than the same Pharasaic & scribe type of spirit that Jesus rebuked. Think about it; desiring the best seat, or even Moses’ seat, burdens put on the congregation that they wouldn’t shoulder, people worship instead of God worship. I have a feeling that Jesus would do a lot of table turning today if He walked into these Mega Churches & saw what is transpiring.

  3. i believe every word read in this comment.. I feel the exact same way.. I look at what’s going on with Quanita Bynum and i see her trying to force her way back into the lime life.. She must realize that what happended to her was divinely done. She prophoseized her own demise. She stated almost 2 years ago that God was going to expose the pulpit and tear these false teachers down. And He Did… She was flirting with a man that was married/ but separated and in a divorce … Now he’s her husband.. She sowed it and now getting it back.. I love her but she needs to sit down.. She is forcing herself on the people of God because she don’t want to lose her flock.. But if God is with her, He will exalt her in due time.

  6. dear Miriam,

I am a little surprised that you use a story from Charisma magazine to support your stance on the H.W.P gospel. This is because any time I see anything written about this publication it is critical against it for their stance on ecumenism which is pro it seems. Of course there are no doubt many positive reports about this publication and yes the criticisms I have read were contained in articles speaking against the emerging church movement. To me if anything supports ecumenism or strongly hints at it then I personally would not use it as a source to support my stance on any issue. I do not know much about the various movements such as charismatic but I know that when I come across the word charisma in relation to God Some reference to catholicism almost invariably follows. Does this magazine not strongly support evangelical catholicism. In this case I WOULD throw the baby out with the bath water.

  21. Hello, I have been raised in the church my whole life, out of six siblings, five are in the ministry, i am one of them. I am a youth Praise and worship leader in a large church, i also direct youth choir and 12 member ensamble that won a State Teen Competition and is going to Nationals this summer. HOWEVER doing this and keeping busy has taken away from my true love which is writing. I never had any luck with it so i gave it up. I wrote about a hundred songs and two books. we drive an hour to church, and have so for 3 years. ,my husband and i are about to loose everything, we are in soooo much debt. I guess the best way to describe my life is that I have never been busier for God, but never have felt more LOST. I have no direction and i have no idea what God wants from me. and in the meantime, I am scared we are loosing everything, and God just isnt showing up, yet. I pray the Lord leads you to nudge me in the right direction.

Could it be you are very busy FOR ‘the Lord’ doing all this stuff but do not spend time with HIM, your first love?

Re your debts – are you still tithing or worse still ’seeding’ at the moment? If so, you are robbing your lenders, as THEIR money is not yours to give to the church. Until you are completely free from debts, this honoring of your promises is your first call and it is also your witness to the world, despite what abusive and greedy pastors say. It is also what best pleases God.

I sympathise, really I do with your situation and plight, but please realise you have not been wise or prudent with your finances to get into debt, let alone ‘a lot of debt’. Please, if you have not yet taken responsibility, take responsibility and repent and ask God for His forgiveness, and ask Him to help you be wise in the future, and that will be the start to get out of your hole. I have been very poor in my life, so although I may sound harsh, it is not – what I say is the truth, and knowing the truth will set you free.

    >>God just isnt showing up, yet

What do you mean by this exactly? How do you define God showing up? Don’t you live and breathe?

But anyway, isn’t it about you showing up for and before God and not the other way around?

May God give you wisdom in this time, and by honoring God may you both turn your life around and strat seeing radical breakthroughs and blessings.

    Comment by endtimespropheticwords | May 19, 2008

  23. Angela -

    Re your private response -

It is not biblical to rob those you owe – or even fob them off and defer paying them – it is irresponsible and could be potentialy stealing. Your money is currently not your own to use as you wish – and they are not your ‘firstfruits’ to give the church, are they, if you owe others money from previous commitments? Your lenders are your priority til you are free from debt as that is your first primary commitment. Then you can start tithing again after your lenders are fully paid off. If you make a commitment then keep it! Does your word mean nothing? You cannot just say ‘it is under the blood’ without taking continuing responsibility for clearing the debt asap.

You say I should not be critical, but I have good reason to be now by such a response from you – how would you feel if you were one of your own lenders seeing such a bad witness? I know that you have swallowed false and abusive teaching about tithing, probably from greedy pastors, but you are NOT honoring God, rather dishonoring God by using money that should be allocated elsewhere at this point in time. You asked for help and wisdom that is it!

Honor God by honoring his word which is to be in debt to no man……….

  24. Blessings,

For the past 9 months or so, God has been speaking mightily to me through dreams; not only through myself but also my 6 year old daughter and occasionally my husband. My daughter’s dreams are always about her dad either beating up or killing a man. (I recently dreamed that he choked to death on a bottle of water and I found out happenstance, no one informed me.) Twice she’s dreamed about both her dad and I. According to her, the first one was that her father and I were tigers who walked into the house and scared her older sister and herself. They ran outside, climbed up a tree and the tigers came and stood at the foot of the tree and told them not to be afraid because it was mommy and daddy. The second dream she had about the 2 of us was a month ago; in this one she dreamt that she had bought her father and I rings. My ring had a heart on it and her father’s had a diamond. I researched to find the spiritual meaning behind ring, heart and diamond. Never really found anything pertaining to heart but ring was significant as was diamond when applied to her dad. I have lots of dreams I’d love to share with you but they’re just too numerous, instead I’ll post the most recent one. Last week I dreamt that I was in an unfamiliar city. The dream began with me sitting in a huge restaurant at a table with a very gentle Caucasian man. The atmosphere and setting inside the restaurant was so beautiful. It was brightly lit, lots of floor to ceiling windows, very large place, lots of tables with people seated at them all. Though there were lots of tables and people, it was not the least bit crowded. The gentleman who was seated with me continuously smiled at me, his eyes were so kind. I had his undivided attention and it was obvious that he was interested in any and everything that I had to say, though I don’t remember him speaking. There was no romantic interest, he just appeared to be pleased to be in my company. We left the restaurant at the same time; he went to his vehicle and I to mine. I drove away and encountered what appeared to be a dead end street. There were 2 signs, one with an arrow pointing left reading, “THIS WAY TO _______” (I don’t recall what the name on it was). The other sign had an arrow pointing right, reading the same. I don’t remember where I was going when leaving the restaurant but when I came upon these signs, I didn’t know which turn to make so I called the gentleman from the restaurant on his cell phone and asked him which way was I to go. He instructed me to keep straight. I informed him that I couldn’t because the street ended there, it was a dead end. He assured me that it only appeared that way but if I drove straight ahead, I’d see that the street continued. I told him okay and hung up. Before I could proceed, I awoke from the dream. Do you have a word from the Lord about this dream or anything else about my family and/or myself?

    Continued Blessings

    Comment by Mercer | May 23, 2008

  25. Mercer: thank you for sharing you and your daughter’s dreams. I am rather puzzled though why you think these dreams to be from God rather than just everyday normal dreams? There is an article on this site about discerning dreams which I think you’ll find helpful to bring you on in discerning what is of God and how He wishes to speak with you.

    Comment by endtimespropheticwords | May 23, 2008

  26. I would like to share the perspective that Christians given to frequently attaching importance to dreams should carefully think again on this issue. It is certainly true that the Bible indicates occasions whence dreams were given of God, and it is also true that God speaks in the book of Jeremiah disparagingly about the people at that time who frequently referenced their dreams.

Comment by Philip Lundquist | May 24, 2008

  27. Thank you for responding.

I apologize for taking up your time and I pray that God continues to fill you as you give so much of yourself to others.

How I know that most of the dreams my daughter and I receive are prophetic in nature and not always “everyday normal dreams” (though sometimes they are) is because they are manifested in time. I spoke with a Prophet in another part of the country since my post who doesn’t know us personally yet spoke some things to me pertaining to myself and my family that could have ONLY come from God because, as stated, he doesn’t know us yet the details were too intimate and on point. What God gave him was only confirmation of the prophetic call I’d been told, yet never quite understood nor fully believed, that is on my daughter’s and my life.

Also, I’m quite familiar with the article you referenced here on your site regarding discernment of dreams; that is what prompted me to post. I might add, not only does the Lord speak to me through dreams but also open visions, though the dreams are more frequent. I would still be blessed if the Lord gave you a word about my family.

    Continued Blessings

    Comment by Mercer | May 25, 2008

  28. Mercer

The reason why I asked, is that the dreams you shared here did not seem to have any particular, let alone a spiritual or God-given message to them, that’s why I asked why you thought they were prophetic, as I could not see the prophetic message or the point in them apart from the normal fleshly dream symbolism understood from human psychologly. How do the dreams lead to or glorify God or show any aspects of him? How do they guide you or lead you into deeper wisdom and understanding, or revelation for the future?

I felt when reading them they were NOT from the Lord but the flesh alone – ‘normal’ dreams if you like, albeit probably intuitive.

That is not to say you are not necessarily genuinely prophetic in other areas at other times, and it may well be that because you are spiritually seeking, you are over-striving and over-seeking for the prophetic, and so see in the ordinary or mundane what you want to see (the prophetic), or what you have been told you will see because of what you have been told/prophesied over by others, rightly or wrongly, rather than God himself, or because you desperately want to be lifted out of the ordinary and move in the spiritual.

Well we should eagerly desire to prophesy, this is a good thing to be – but it can be potentially a very dangerous place indeed for a sincere searching one to be in, as they can become a sincere but misguided false prophet, operating in the flesh and not the spirit, and an Ishmael and not an Isaac is birthed. It is a very common mistake many people, even genuine prophetic people make, so I am not being cruel or nasty by saying it here, rather I seek to encourage you – watch out for this as it is a snare and ask God for his wisdom and discernment so you know His Spirit over your flesh or any familiar/divinatory spirits.

I pray that God would give both you and your daughter wisdom and discernment so that you can both serve Him unhindered, and flow for Him like a river of grace.

    Comment by MARGARET | June 5, 2008

  31. Margaret:

You keep having dreams about money doesn’t mean you’ll be rich, or even have more than you really need. It could be due the the fact, that your too focused on money all the time so thus you actually dream about it. I have had dreams about money sometimes, and I’m still poor. I’m not going to go chase after it though, for you could be a unbeliever and do that and get rich, if you had the resources.

Not saying you won’t but how many has said they would give to the poor if they got rich, then turn around and back out of their promise? You want to know the truth? If you can’t give while your poor and have little, your not going to give if you have much! Oh yeah you may give some to keep some off your back, but then you’ll actually find reasons to run from them, so you won’t go broke and return to where you once was, poor and needy!

I’d be careful about wishing for riches that just may actually choke out the word of God in your heart! You want wisdom about it then pray for Gods will not what you want. And to be right honest, that one thing right there will in effect cause many to run from God, even though on the outside they seem not to be, in their heart they are. Pray for Gods will to be done, then if you stand that test God will honor it, for he sees the heart not the words or works.

  32. Good Evening
I have been visiting your site for a month or more and feel your words/evaluations are true and inspired. Knowing your time is valuable, I’ll get to the point. Does God want to position me elsewhere and what does he want me to do with whatever time he grants me? Circumstances already in motion are creating conflicting possible outcomes, and because of many missteps (being too quick or too late) I cannot rely on my feelings. Next week, there are multiple events that must occur, the last month or so have been leading up to these conclusions. Though praying daily, but being mindful not to tell the Lord what to do, I pray for his best.
I am almost embarrassed to say, that although no longer young, I feel no closer realizing what God’s will for this life is, and sometimes I just fear that I living in vain.
Please forgive the length of this question. I’ll continue to pray and read the Promises of God and will check in to see if the Lord quickens anything to you.
    Thank you,

The Lord has shown me and confirmed to me that my husband has a tremendous call on his life to peach God’s word. I have prayed for him for years. My husband knows the Lord but has NEVER fully surrendered his life to him. The Lord has also shown me that his family has a strong spirit of control and manipulation over him and have practiced witchcraft to destroy his marriage to me. In the last year somethings happend and he stopped going to church. He is in a back-slidden state. He goes out with the “boys” and sometimes does not come home at all. I have done everything I know to do. Interestingly my pastor has adviced me to leave him, saying that he will never change. I recently went on a 7 day fast to get instructions from the Lord. So far I havent heard anything or maybe I have but not acknowledged it as the Lord. I do love my husband and I know that God is able. However I also know that he gives all a free will, and that it is up to him to turn his life over to the Lord. Please pray that the Lord will give you a specific word regarding what I should do. I am desperate, and want to live a life of peace for me and my daughters.

  36. Tracy,

Interestingly my pastor has adviced me to leave him, saying that he will never change.

This is in no means a ‘word’ but, here’s some ‘armchair’ advice:

I would get additional counsel. You’ve made a covenant with God which should not be broken unless your husband has broken it by being habitually unfaithful. If your husband has backslidden for a year (which I’m sure can feel like an eternity) yet he was serving the LORD in at least some capacity for the years prior, then there’s hope.

I hasten to give you specific advice for I am not qualified, I do not know you and I do not know the entirety of the situation.

I recently went on a 7 day fast to get instructions from the Lord.

That’s certainly a good thing. Keep seeking Him. God bless you.

My heart goes out to you as I’ve been through something similar. The upshot is it drove me closer to Him. I’ll be praying for you.

I have been reading over your site for a few weeks, but this is the first thread like this I have encountered. Something doesn’t seem quite right here. Can you check the IP addresses of the personal requests? I’m wondering if you will find that many under different names are coming from the same source.

    I could be wrong, but…

  45. I could really use a confirming word right about now. I have asked my Lord for a word from a prophet that I was not familar with. I have been surfing the web for such a person, however, there are quite a few who charge for a “word”….. and my seach was of no avail until I came upon your page. Perhaps, your are different for the few that I have come in contact with.

  46. I just stumbled on this site. I so much need a word from the Lord.I need his sure voice to tell me the path he wants me to go. I pray and read the word. I have had times when I got on my knees in grief and broken heartedness. I have an estranged husband and 5 children on an Indian reserve in ny and I and my son Jesse12 left there 2 years ago and came to kentucky. I have 5 grown children on the rez. Does the Lord want me to go back to the rez? Is he going to fix me and my children? Will he heal my broken heart and give me peace? In ny I suffered years of abuse and my husband sexually assaulted my daughter who he promised to raise as his own. He never made thins right with us. My girl Angie was very damaged and suffers addictions to cover the pain.My husband and daughter Erin have done witchcraft to each other and us and I feel they are doing it again. My son Jesse noticed this 2 years ago–he had the feeling of black shadowy thins-evil coldness and oppression. My other children said evil things were happening in their home. My daughter Erin and her dad were accusing each other of witching each others houses–they are envolved in Native witchcraft. I and Jesse had to plead the blood of Jesus every day.Arnold tried to destroy me. I at this time feel like my life is at a stand still.I also feel like someone is doing these witchy things again. Arnold tries to get the kids to talk me into going back to ny but he told me one time after I had been ina shelter that he only wanted me back so he could kill me and send my soul to hell. i feel very heavily burdened. I just need his reassurance-feel his love and peace and know what he would have me do. I so much misss my children. Jesse is happy to be away from it all and Angie still has a destroyed life. What would you say to Me? A sister in Jesus–Peggy

  48. Hi
I have been under training by the Holy Spirit forthe last 3 years concerning the Authority of the lORD. The Lord gave me e rhema word from Numbers 17 about the rod of Aaron budding in the presence of the Lord and also last year the Lord gave me another rhema word from Numbers 27 concerning the imparting of some of Moses authority to Joshua,i feel after this word a visiting speaker tomy church laid hands on me and i feelthe mantle of authority was imparted by the Lord to me. Please could you seek a word for me and i will compare it to what i feel the Lord is actually doing in my life,i would like to have confirmation of my future vision for the Lords plan and purpose in the bigger picture ofmy walk with Him,thank you and bless you
