Dreams can come on several levels from differant sources. So we can have normal dreams (products of our own imagination or ‘psyche’ which I will call of the ‘flesh’ realm), God given dreams of prophecy and revelation (of the ‘Holy Spirit’), or dreams from other sources such as drug induced dreams or hallucinations, and lastly dreams coming from decietful spirits.
In my experience, when one has a genuine prophetic dream, one will know about it, even if not ‘used’ to prophesying. Why? It will just feel differant, stand out from the other dreams with a special quality to it – perhaps by its lucidity or impact on our minds, and it will be hard to shake off the next day. So I am saying the ‘quality’ of the dream is usually unique as well as the actual ‘content’. Particularly in the beginning for those unused to dreams and prophecy, I believe God makes it even more obvious for them that it is He who is speaking by making the dream or vision remarkable and unusual and stamped on our minds. Either that or something will happen very soon to confirm it. I truly believe the first time God speaks to you in a dream or vision you will KNOW about it. I certainly did and I knew nothing about prophecy or dreams at all. I just knew it was God talking to me.
The ‘quality’ or ‘feel’ to the dream as well as the actual content aspect is important to remember. Why? Because I know many Christian folk will have ‘Christian’ dreams about preaching, healing or whatever, or dream seemingly prophetic future events, and will assume as their dream has Christian content to it, it must be prophetic or ‘from God’. This is not true.
You can have ‘normal’ dreams on a flesh level about ‘Christian’ things that are not given of the Holy Spirit, just as you dream about other things in your normal day-to-day life. So just as you may dream of going shopping in Walmart after shopping there, so you may dream of going to church after going to church, or dream of something from the Bible after reading the Bible, or dream of prophetic events after hearing an end times sermon, or dream on the rapture after thinking on end times things. Some people have very active imaginations, but imagining something alone does not make it real or of God. Likewise you can dream of future ‘prophetic events’ such as another 9/11 terror attack but it may just be a normal dream like anything else.
I know a lot of people have ‘Christian’ spiritual dreams where they preach on the streets, prophesy, speak in tongues, worship God, cast out devils, go on missions trips etc, but it should be noted that not all of these dreams are godly or from God. They can feel good, or seem really spiritual but still not really mean anything in the long run. Just because something you dream is true, this does not mean it is a prophetic dream. It can be just a dream.
You can have ordinary or ‘nonsense’ Christian dreams just like normal dreams about anything else. I know some Christians – including myself when much younger – have made the error of assuming all Christian-type dreams are always of divine origin. I have learned the hard way this is not so, and I wish someone had taught me when younger that they can be of the flesh too, but there you go, I know now! It seems a really obvious thing to say when I say it here, like real obvious straight forward common sense everyone should know, but I am surprised how few people actually know this truth or practice it. I suppose it is because the prophetic is not taught, practised or discerned properly in most places. And people long for supernatural experiences. I do not wish you to not long to hear God’s voice or desire to dream dreams or see visions, I wish that you would all eagerly desire to prophesy – I just urge discernment and say to you do not be so desparate for the supernatural you will accept anything. Love truth more than experience.
I know many Christians have made mistakes of listening too much to their dreams from a flesh level as they have not discerned the source of the dreams. You can be attacked with the counterfeit when asleep so bear this in mind. Rule number 1: you need to discern whether a Christian prophetic dream is just from you or if it is indeed given by the Holy Spirit or whether it is from a seductive deceptive spirit of divination. Discerning a dream’s source is the first and most important thing you should do. I would also suggest to normal Christians do not even worry about interpretating and discerning your dreams, ignore them - unless you get a dream that almost smacks you in the face and you wonder ‘is this from God?’ Otherwise I think you’ll get led astray. (The only exception to this is recurring dreams which although they occur on a flesh level are important – see end of article).
Even when a dream is of God, dreams really do need weighed and tested much more because there is far more of a tendancy (in my experience) to include fleshy interpretation OR accept the bits where it gets into the flesh where the Spirit ends etc.
I remember the case of the girl who dreamed a male long lost friend she had not thought or heard about for over a year came back into her life. In the dream she met up with him and she gave him a big hug. The next day out of the blue, she got a letter from him saying he was visiting nearby, could they meet, and realised that it was a prophetic dream. However, she then wrongly assumed that God was saying she and this fellow should get married because she’d given him a big hug in the dream, and got into a bit of an embarassing pickle because this was not the case. God had never said the girl was to marry the guy. God was just saying she would meet him, and the fellow was used as a sign to guide her to move back to another city, he was a messenger. So be careful to weigh the dream up even when it is prophetic to make sure you do not go beyond thinking what is actually said. NUMBER 2 RULE – NEVER ASSUME! IF YOU DON’T SEE/HEAR IT, DON’T THINK GOD REALLY MUST MEAN IT! IF GOD MEANS IT HE WILL TELL YOU SO IN THE DREAM OR SUBSEQUENTLY! ASSUME NOTHING – THE SAME APPLIES FOR VISIONS.
That all said, dreams can be a powerful way for God to speak to us and they are to be valued if we discern them and test them and seek correct interpretation. As important as the dream itself is its correct interpretation which requires wisdom.
I know there are some so-called prophetic sites on the web that peddle books and ‘prophets’ who write on dream interpetation or offer their services to interpret dreams. These prophets will see value in all your dreams and give you gushing nonsense as to what it means. No better than new age charlatans, they purport beliefs that are not of God. They sell whole lists (in book form or on CD or on cards) of what certain dream symbols mean.
For just US10 for one card, Barbie Breathitt, an ‘anointed prophet’ who peddles her wares on the infamous Elijah List will sell you a dream symbol reference card. They are a bestseller apparently. Most of the Elijah List, by the way is about hawking Christian tat. They’ll call it anointed though, so let’s say they hawk ‘anointed’ tat. Steve Shultz , the Elijah List’s owner, will shamelessly write gushing rave reviews about this tat and claim it is a must have for the Christian to achieve ’break through’, to get more visitations, impartation, third heaven revelation, more anointing or whatever.
‘Prophetess’ Barbie Breathitt has around 10 differant cards containing 76 frequent dream symbols and their meanings, a card with 60 people symbols and their meanings, and a card with 81 vehicle symbols and their meanings etc. for sale. All for US10 a pop so for US100 you’ll get a list of anointed dream symbols (10 cards) from this ‘prophetess’ that you could get for 5 or 10 dollars in the new age section in a book form. It will be the exact same stuff without the words ‘anointed’ and ‘Jesus’ on it, and will contain a lot more information – like maybe 300 pages instead of 10! Is this godly? Is it heck! What a rip off.
I am just waiting for the Elijah list and its prophets to start flogging ‘anointed’ tarot cards and gush how full they are of rich symbols and how God can guide us with them! I reckon they’d do very well there, maybe even they could get a conference circuit going and some books and other products. If I was a business person who did not fear God I’d come up with that idea real fast. The idea is free to anyone who wants it, but I warn you it will take you and others to hell.
If this following dream interpretation card from Barbie Breathitt is not new age, I do not know what is (does nobody have any discernment any more?):
‘Color Music Healing/Food Symbols:
This reference card contains an extensive list of anatomical areas and the corresponding colors and musical keys that facilitate healing in those areas. The back of the card lists 37 foods and their symbolic meanings.’
This and the other books and artefacts on dream interpretation on the Elijah list and the neo prophetic sites are all complete and utter new age claptrap. Do not have anything to do with them. If/when God speaks to you in dreams, he will use his own symbology with you that you will get to know and will need to seek him on for yourself. You cannot say all dreams of apples or airplanes or astronauts mean the same thing to each dreamer – each thing means a differant thing to each person and each situation and depends on what else surrounds it in the dream eg: its context.
These people like Barbie are false interpretators and their websites and writings are not of God. Avoid them. Indeed I recommend avoiding all who are on the Elijah List, they are mainly heretics, hawkers, quacks or charlatans - or all four.
One very famous (false) prophet – shall I name him? – yes I will, ‘apostle’ Chuck Pierce consider yourself likewise named and shamed – has 8 products related to dream interpretation on his website. This ‘prophet’ absolutely recommends, and strongly urges that people buy his anointing oils, candles and prayer tallits. They are unmissable he claims, he felt urged to offer them and would not want people to miss the blessing from these ‘anointed’ products. He also sells mugs to ‘help you to intercede’. He certainly makes mugs of Christians. He is popular on the Elijah List too by the way.
I know I digress slightly, but I could not let Chuck Pierce go by without further comment-
‘”My Life Will Profit” – Anointing Oil - 1 oz. roll-on or choose the 2 oz. bottle for just $4 more!
The Hebraic month of Sivan is the “business person’s month!” It is also associated with the tribe of Zebulon – a tribe linked with prosperity and increase. To profit is to yield yourself to God in a way that you will experience gain and increase. We designed this oil to encourage you to catch a new wind and reach the destination He has for you and become very profitable in all you do. (Notice the Scripture references superimposed over the ship: Is. 48:17, 1 Cor. 12:7). This anointing oil is made with all essential oils, and comes in a ¾ ounce roll-on bottle. This will allow you to carry it in your pocket or purse so its always readily available.’
Chuck Pierce just loves special Hebrew months, times and seasons. I guess they sound more spiritual and mystical and prophet-like and you can get more cents to the dollar using them. He claimed recently that ‘This is the month of Elul in God’s calendar! You don’t need to climb up to the heavens to get His attention! You don’t need to follow some religious protocol or ritual! This is a time when God has come into your field. He has made Himself accessible to you. You only need to make the effort to go out to meet Him!’ Err Chuck, what Bible do you read? The new C Peter Wagner Antichrist Version? When did God ever say he was nearer or more accessible in one month than another under the new covenant? When have we ever had to climb to the heavens to get his attention or follow some religious protocol or ritual since accepting Jesus Christ who gives us confidence to approach the throne of God with boldness?! Do you actually even know Jesus, Chuck Pierce, for you deny him and you deny his work?
Chuck Pierce also claims in his shop – while flogging merchandise with the ‘watch’ idea on it that: ‘This is a year to establish THE WATCH OF THE LORD so we can guard our FUTURE! There are certain spiritual dynamics that happen in each watch. There are certain victories that are only gained during certain watches. The Jews, like the Greeks and Romans, divided the night into military watches instead of hours. Each watch represented the period for which sentinels or pickets remained on duty. This produced the “watch in the night” (Ps 90:4). There is the Evening Watch – 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the Midnight Watch – 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM, the Cockcrowing Watch – 12:00 AM to 3:00 AM, the Morning Watch – 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM.’
Certain spiritual dynamics only happen in each watch?! Really Mr Pierce? The mind boggles at what you will prophesy or try to flog us next.
Each watch conveniently have products associated with them in their own colour codes. Of course Chuck Pierce says: ‘Because we at Glory of Zion International feel it is important for people to watch, we have tried to devise some tools that Holy Spirit can use to help develop your prayer life in each watch. Working with New Wine Lights, we have developed a CANDLE for each watch. These have a unique fragrance and color for that watch. The Evening Watch Candle is mellow green with an evergreen fragrance. The Midnight Watch Candle is dark blue with a fragrance like a late night storm. The Cockcrowing Watch Candle is creamy yellow with a lavender and COSTMARY fragrance, a unique smell that was used at the beginning of the development of America. The Morning Watch Candle is yellowish, red-orange to represent the Breaking of a Day with a jasmine and rose fragrance.’
How helpful, but how unscriptural! How apostate! Hardly fitting for an apostle of Christ, but very fitting for an apostle of the new world order. I recommend everybody to ‘chuck’ all material and prophetic words related to apostle Chuck Pierce and Glory of Zion International completely away. The man masquerades as an angel of light. The Lord rebuke you Chuck Pierce, you hawker and abuser of men. How it grieves me! How it grieves me.>
Anyway, back to dreams: If dreams are just on a flesh level it does not mean they are invalid, rubbish or should not be listened to – far from it. Now just because you discern that a dream is not specifically prophetic from the Spirit, it does not mean it should not be listened to, it just means we should not attach such significance to it. Flesh-level dreams can still be ‘God-given’ in that they can sometime reveal a great deal about us, our innermost thoughts and fears etc, that on a concious level we may avoid. Recurring dreams in particular should be listened to, as it normally shows something we should be dealing with in our lives. However they should never be treated on the same level as God given dreams as although they may reflect our fears and feelings, they may not reflect the truth.
To any Christian who eagerly desires prophetic dreams I would say: ask God for them, love truth, obey him with non prophetic things, and recieve the Holy Spirit.
‘And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.’ (Joel 2: 28-31)
oh i know exactly about all this.
in a dream:
i was on a beach and a hurricane started coming in.
heavy winds and rain.
then i said in my head “maybe Jesus Christ should help me but i don’t know.”
^^^ that was that part of it.
jesus has NEVER given me ONE REASON to think i should “trust him.”
no, not when he never told me i was “born again.” yet it’s all i begged for.
not when i see lukewarm christians SUCCEEDING IN LIFE but i’m not.
not when i try hard to get a job but it never happens.
not when i can be SO confused.
and i’ve given him an earful because of all this.
i NEVER thought things would ever get like this.
on a further note, i know exactly about those relationship dreams. i hate them, i wish nobody had them. it’s the most annoying sensitive issue of our day.
i’ve had about 5-6 dreams now about my ex girlfriend where we’ve either kissed, i’ve said I LOVE YOU to her, or there was marriage involved.
and i don’t know what to believe.
and i don’t know
Hey Paul: I think your recurring dreams about your ex means you still have unresolved feelings you need to deal with about her, or you have not let her go etc. They reflect your wants, fears and desires and are perfectly normal. I do not think God is involved in these dreams – though he knows about them as he knows your every thought and feeling – neither is he saying to you should marry her. I think this is you trying to work your feelings through. It is not God taunting you.
Some things have to be accepted by YOUR faith on what the word of God says. If you followed it through, did the sinner’s prayer, repented and meant what you said, then the Bible says you are born again. If you do not believe the Bible, God is not going to send an angel, prophet or priest to tell you this.
Your issues and dreams tell me you do not trust God, you are like the wave tossed to and throw that James talks about that achieves nothing because it doubts. You are looking for the impossible. If you lack faith then ask God, he gives generously to all without finding fault, but without faith no man can please God.
Yeah…But You Know What? God Would NOT Give Me Anything Even If I Asked.
Because NOT ONLY Have I Asked For FAITH…I’ve Actually Asked For REPENTENCE AND GOOD INTENTIONS, Etc…AND HE ACTUALLY DENIES THEM!
I Remember Standing Outside My Basement 3 Years Ago Asking For Repentence…3 Years LATER…IT’S STILL NOT HERE.
And about my ex. I dunno…
I’ve had TWO dreams about her Where I KNEW SHE WAS THE ONE…but I ALSO KNEW that now was not the right time.
in one dream, me and my ex were getting married BUT i knew it wasn’t the right time, and in another dream, she said “i want to be you girlfriend.” BUT i said “you can be but now is not the right time.” then she got upset and i tried to kiss her and make her feel better.
I want God to say something. Because if my EX is not it…then WHO IS? because THIS IS TWO girls now who i’ve had dreamed about and thought something was up.
Except the girl BEFORE my ex, i NEVER had dreams like this.
If God KNOWS I Want friends and a girl and a LIFE…WHY don’t I have them?
did I commit the unforgiveable sin or something?
I mean, EVERYONE, lukewarm christian, non-christian I know and my age especially…HAS A LIFE…they have FRIENDS…they have SKILLS, they have JOBS. But I don’t.
sure i’m lukewarm myself, at least for a long time i’ve believed it.
Yet I am NOT told HOW…to FIX THIS.
I look at pornography…BUT SO DOES EVERY OTHER CHRISTIAN GUY out there…WHY DO THEY STILL HAVE LIVES BUT I DON”T?
I don’t like it…I’ve tried to quit…So what does God not like about me?
what happened to my last comment?
anyways…
about the dreams:
in one, we were getting married and I KNEW SHE WAS THE ONE but…i also had a feeling that i was not read.
in a second, she said “i want to be your girlfriend.” but i said “you can be, but now is not the right time.”
so i dunno.
but yeah, IF ONLY IT WERE THAT SIMPLE…that I could “ask god for faith” and He would give it to me…
well i’ve TRIED THAT ALREADY…i’ve asked for FAITH, REPENTENCE, GOOD MOTIVES, etc…
NOTHING has changed.
i guess God doesn’t appreciate my faith.
Paul,
One part of your post struck me. “jesus has NEVER given me ONE REASON to think i should “trust him.”
no, not when he never told me i was “born again.” yet it’s all i begged for.”
When I first wanted to get saved I did not understand much. I recited the sinners prayer. Yet I did not feel anything. I assumed since I did not feel anything I must not be saved. It did not help that SEVERAL christians told me that if I was saved I would know it. They told me how i’d feel joy and goose bumps and would remember right down to the very day and hour. I was told by one christian I was not saved cause I could not remember the day or hour. These things already confused me and added to my fear that hard as I try to accept Christ I would not be successful (as if there were some trick to it) and I would burn in hell. I prayed and prayed. I cried , I read my bible, I sometimes yelled at God for not answering me. I was so scared and angry at times because I felt he wasn’t listening. This went on a very long time. Maybe a year or more. I did not let it keep me from seeking God, instead I pressed in. I was too scared not to press in as my very soul was at stake.
One day I was upstairs in my bedroom reading my bible (king james version) and I was picking apart every verse I could find that guaranteed salvation. I started reading the verse that said , “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.” Romans 10:9-13. I was stuck on that verse. I was 19 years old and had no idea what that meant.” I was not praying. I was just sitting there and really trying to pick apart that verse and figure out what they meant by whoever believeth on the Lord would not be ashamed. All of a sudden a voice said to me, “It means you will not be turned away.”
I understood if for the first time. I had never had an experience like that! God spoke to me and told me what the verse meant. And I had spent a long time seeking him and hearing nothing and then all of a sudden he speaks to me.
This did not end my doubt though. It helped me but I continued to struggle with doubt. I had a couple of other experiences that were no doubt God but it’s a long story.
My point is that I have no idea why God seemed to take so long in answering me when I begged God to help me understand the salvation thing and to have faith.
It seemed like forever. What I learned from that though is that I have to keep pressing in despite what it looks like. (That he doesn’t care and is uninterested). That he actually does know what is going on but he is God and will answer me when he answers me.
Maybe by letting me feel the desperation of my situation he pulled me in more to him. Maybe that is what I needed for myself. And I suspect it very well might be that.
Some people get instantaneous answers and others do not. We are all different and God knows how to deal with us.
Later I found out that I had O.C.D (obsessive compulsive disorder). I went to a christian cousnelor who explained to me that it was NOT a mental illness. Just a disorder that causes a very sane person to obsessively doubt. It also causes a lot of Christians intrusive thoughts (Like Blasphemous thoughts towards God, Jesus, Holy Spirit) It caused me to think too hard into things instead of just accepting them the way they are.
I still deal with the doubting to this day. But I have learned how to, without medication, deal with it and lessen it’s effects on me.
I learned not long after that, that many christians have OCD and that is why they struggle with the salvation issue so hard. It is also why a lot of Christians struggle with thoughts of Blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
The therapist/DR. also stated that a christian that wrote the book, “Pilgrims Progress” had the same problem. His name was Paul Bunyan.
I am not saying you have this problem. I have no idea if you do or not. I just felt like sharing my experience because I use to beg Jesus to save me and felt like he wouldn’t and I felt so angry with him for that.
LOL! So sorry I said the author of , “Pilgrims Progress” was Paul Bunyan. It’s actually John Bunyan.
sorry bout that
Miriam,
Thank you for posting to me about my dream the other day. I did discern it was of the flesh but not til the day had worn on and it seemed more and more like rubbish to me.
Yes it does reveal a lot about how I feel. It reveals the hurt I feel over how my family cares for me.
However I have already forgiven them. I did the day you prophesied that the Lord saw bitterness in my heart. And I must say I feel much lighter.
I learned that yes my family has many short comings that I do not like. And it’s OK to feel hurt by their actions and to know the truth about them as long as I do not allow it to cause bitterness in me or unforgiveness. I learned that people will hurt us and it’s not the hurt that is bad but wallowing in the hurt that causes us to think unkind thoughts towards those people and keeps us from showing Jesus to them in their lives.
Paul:
You don’t ask God for repentence, it is something that YOU have to do for yourself in yourself before God. YOU have to acknowledge that your attitudes and behaviour are wrong and commit to turning from them and acknowledge God is right and you are wrong, and ask for God’s cleansing, forgiveness and new life and power to overcome. And then have faith that what you have done is enough and God will meet you there.
I know you are wallowing in things also and having a pity party: please stop wallowing, Paul, as I have said before you only hurt yourself and you’ll just end up going in circles achieving nothing apart from going ever downward a spiral of despair. I have told you the way to be free, please stop making excuses as to why it is not so or why everybody else but you can do something else. This is about you and what you need to do.
BTW, just because you consider everybody else does something does not make it right. Porn is unhealthy and it will only get you spiralling into more depression and more fantasy and obsession etc. Not all Christian guys ‘do’ it, although it is true many do. It is still sin. You are making excuses to justify yourself and it does not wash with God. Don’t call black white.
Sandy: thanks for posting this testimony, I am sure many will find it very helpful.
I’m Sorry If You Think It’s A “Pity Party.”
But I no longer care what I sound like and what people think…It’s really happening.
I don’t even know what to do right now.
I have zero friends. Why? Is that a “door closed by God” or something?
Because I CANNOT change this situation myself.
Even the Bible testifies that having friends are important.
Even job had friends.
Paul:
But you and I both know that’s exactly what it is and you KNOW all these things are not true. I know you are hurting, I have been there too, but I or nobody else does you no favours by wallowing with you, agreeing with you how crappy your life is, and allowing you to pick at your scabs. Loving somebody and helping them is not mollycoddling them and pampering them but speaking the truth so they may be free – in your case YOU do have the choice how you think and feel, and you have the choice to wallow in darkness or live in the light. You are beating yourself up – intentionally – with boxing gloves and I say stop hitting yourself. Do I say ‘There, there Paul, carry on hitting yourself’? No, like any caring person seeing a boxer do this to himself, I try to grab your wrists and stop them turning inward and yell to you ‘Stop hurting yourself and beating yourself up!’ My words have been strong to you but they need to be. I would not take this tactic with every depressed or hurting person, but this is what you need to hear as it applies for you.
I have shown you what you need to do. I can help you no further Paul if you do not wish to listen but offer me every excuse why you cannot be free instead. You have been shown the doorway out of your personal darkness. Take it or leave it, but stop moaning and moaning on the door threshold and bitterly blaming everybody including God for your problems for that is exactly what you do. Do you want to get your life sorted out or do you prefer masochistically wallowing and chewing sour grapes? If the latter it is no wonder you are suffering as you WANT it and invite it upon yourself. I say to you again cross the threshold into the light and be free. It is truly your call. You will get what you truly desire – living wallowing in bitterness and darkness and envy, or living revelling in freedom and joy and the light!
Bless you. Be free Paul. In the name of Jesus, I urge you to be free.
TO PAUL:
Matthew 16:24
If any of you want to be my followers, you must FORGET ABOUT YOURSELF. You must take up your cross and follow me (CEV)
If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me (KJV)
Paul, you said, “Even job had friends.”
Maybe you aren’t familiar with the phrase “Job comforter”? That is probably what you would call us.
Maybe you should read (or reread) the book of Job. I think you missed the point.
JOB 40:
1 The LORD said to Job:
2 “Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? Let him who accuses God answer Him!”
3 Then Job answered the LORD :
4 “I am unworthy—how can I reply to you?
I put my hand over my mouth.
5 I spoke once, but I have no answer—
twice, but I will say no more.”
6 Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm:
7 “Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
8 “Would you discredit my justice?
Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
Job was “perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil” (Job 1), and yet even Job was not allowed to judge God and question God’s sovereignty. How much more does that apply to you, yourself admitting premeditated, intentional sin?
So enough saying…”God hasn’t…”, “God doesn’t…”, “If God…”
You said, “did I commit the unforgiveable sin or something?” Well, be careful that you don’t!
Instead of bitterly railing against God, why not humble yourself NOW before it’s too late.
Just a note of reference in case people google to find out the farce of Elijah List and their so called “prophets” Its Steve Shultz without the ‘c’ – Just wanting credit where credit is due. In this case under the topics of FALSE TEACHERS, FALSE PROPHETS, WRONG. Wouldnt want some other man having to own up to this awful stuff.
Barfy: thanks, I have corrected this
IN MY OPINION…
It has been my experience to note that dreams can generally be divided into three categories depending upon the source:
1) a dream can come from your own spirit;
2) a dream can have a demonic source;
3) a dream can be given by the Lord.
Typically a dream from one source automatically excludes elements from either of the two remaining sources.
The problem with interpretation of a dream lies in its inherent ‘free-for-all’ nature – the dream realm is a place where anyone can get in on the act.
Additionally, the mind is unable to resolve a dream’s iconography, symbolism, or other ‘nonsense’ into a reasonably ordered sequence of logical events that have meaning in our natural world (dreams are really meant for the spirit to receive and act upon).
A dream from one’s own spirit is weak; a dream originating from a demonic source has significant power (particularly when you publish it by speaking or writing); a dream from the Lord has the most power.
Any dream from the Lord must line up with Scripture, and be of good report (that is to say, you can freely talk about it in a Christian environment).
The wisdom from above (in a dream for example) is first pure, then peaceable, gentle and easy to be entreated. Does your dream do that or does it just give you the warm fuzzies?
Any dream from the Lord must also ultimately point to the Gospel message and lift up the name of Jesus (ie, God will never let you know that your long lost boyfriend is in town and wants to see you unless, for example, he is an evangelist for God and you are to help him get temporary lodging while he is in town preaching the Gospel).
Avoid all dreams that need a sign to verify if is of the Lord. If God is to be our eternal Father, we better start knowing Him as a person, not a wizard waving a mystical wand!
Having said that, I have had many dreams from the Lord, including a three part dream where I woke up in between parts only to have it continue when I lay back down again.
Be careful. Deception is everywhere. Jesus was a very humble, simple man who stuck to basics.
One final note: I tend to think these last days signs and wonders (ie, gold dust, flowing oil, snapshots of angels all taken during worship service) are not of God (you think the devil doesn’t attend a church service?). To my way of thinking, its about the time when the devil is about to parade his lying signs and wonders package to the world (and an undiscerning church) and in order to avoid confusion, God is not going to add to the mix. Instead, any sign or wonder from the Lord these days would be more in the line of judgemental wake-up calls as in the natural floodings and other disasters we are experiencing.
Peter
I have to take issue with that as prophecy does not always work as narrowly as that – and dreams are part of the prophetic. God cares about all the facets in our lives, not just our ministries or ‘Christian bits’, and He speaks into them too – and when and where important He may well speak prophetically about boyfriends etc for any number of reasons such as giving wisdom so as not to get hurt by them etc. These dreams still exalt and lift up the name of Jesus though as they glorify God.
This morning, my husband was on his way home, when he bumped into the pastor that lives next door to us. The pastor stopped my husband and said to him, ‘I had a terrible dream last night, in which you and your wife are going to have a huge argument that will lead to divorce, and God told the pastor in the dream that it would be an attack from Satan.
When my husband entered our home and came to tell me what the pastor said, that we would have an argument so bad that it could lead to divorce. The holy spirit immediately told me that God is not a fortune teller and secondly God would never sow a seed of possible destruction.
I phoned my mom and told her the story and low and behold her first words to me was, ‘God does not do fortunetelling and God does not sow seeds of provocation.’ Which is exactly what God told me earlier.
Also my husband said, that when he met the pastor outside my husband felt that there was something not right. His eyes seemed glossy and there was not an ounce of comfort vibrating/coming from him. My husband said he actually felt a bit scared.
I also just find it peculiar that yesterday was the day I realised that when this pastor layed hands on me to speak in tongues and I ’spoke in tongues’. But after getting confirmation from this site that I actually didn’t speak in tongues, but through a deceptive spirit and not the holy spirit. That I asked God to forgive me and rebuked this spirit in Jesus Name….Now this pastor comes to tell us about this dream he had? Coincidence? I think not.
His dream was not from God, but from Satan and the purpose is to sew a seed of doubt and provocation into our marriage.
Now another interesting question, I wonder how many pastors and christian people out there have these false/deceptive demons attached to them and believe everything they hear/dream as being from God. I think the number is astonishingly high. All I can do is pray for the pastor next door that his eyes are opened to what is actually hovering round him.
Dear endtimepropheticwords:
Thank you for your reply. I have to confess, however, that I am somewhat confused by it.
In your post you state that:
“He may well speak prophetically about boyfriends etc for any number of reasons such as giving wisdom so as not to get hurt by them etc.”
Well, I state exactly the same thing. I use a different example, but it conveys the exact same principle as your own example does.
You use a boyfriend in your example, I use an evangelist. Your example instructs the dreamer to apply wisdom; my example instructs the dreamer to provide lodging. Your example prevents harm to the dreamer; my example prevents the evangelist from having to look for lodging elsewhere. In both example cases, a clear care and concern for the dreamer’s course of action are identifiable.
I don’t see where we disagree on that point.
You also state that:
“These dreams still exalt and lift up the name of Jesus
though as they glorify God.”
Well, I state exactly the same thing. I use different words, but I convey the exact same meaning as you do.
Dreams from the Lord still exalt and lift up the name of Jesus and they glorify God (your words). Another way of saying that is that a dream from the Lord must also ultimately point to the Gospel message and lift up the
name of Jesus (my words).
I cannot see where we differ there either. Our grammar is identical. Only the words used (not their meaning) are different.
I had considered that you may have misinterpreted
something that glared out at you against the background of other words in my post. I did state that:
“God will never let you know that your long lost boyfriend is in town and wants to see you”
If that was all there was to the dream then that is true! He won’t! It isn’t a dream from the Lord! End of story!
But notice that I added later, even in the same sentence, the proviso ‘unless, for example’
…and then I proceeded to give just such an example.
Other than that, I have no idea what you might be referring to.
Dear Deborah:
Apply the axiom:
“a dream from the Lord must also ultimately point to the Gospel message and lift up the name of Jesus”
to your pastor’s dream and see what you get as an answer.
Peter: fair enough, we agree then. I was just clarifying for the sake of others here – as some people claim what I thought initially you may have said that God does not speak about ‘normal’ things
Hi Peter
Thanks and yip I agree. This dream does not point to anything except to make me worry. He did not tell us when we would have this devestating argument so it could be in 10 years time for all I know. So now I must worry every day for the next 10 years? That’s not of God.
Miriam,
I had a dream that seemed like it was from God but I am not sure because it also made me very afraid and I don’t know if it was a “good” afraid or a “bad” afraid.
In the dream:
I and my Christian family members and friends were hanging out in an underground store, just minding our own business. The ceiling/roof of the store was glass and occasionally we would see people walking on the glass above us.
Suddenly we heard the Muslim Call to prayer really loud. We were surprised and looked up to see tons of people marching above us on top of the glass roof. We decided to come above-ground to see what was going on. There was a HUGE well-organized and choreographed march taking place in the center of the city we were in. Many of the people in the march were muslims but there were also nominal christians and people of other religions marching and saying that every religion worships the same god so it was good for them to be marching together with the muslims. My friends and family and I could feel such a presence of evil that we started praying. We knew several of the people in the march. One marcher who knew my husband called out to him, “Hey Les, Are you here to pray with us?” My husband didn’t know how to respond because we were there to pray, but now WITH them. There was also a huge building that was filled with merchandise and information booths all affiliated with the march. There were very few people who were not in the march or affiliated with it. We could not believe that this huge event had been organized without us knowing that it was happening. The dream ended with us feeling overwhelmed and trying to pray.
April: if you are feeling afraid or overwhelmed, regardless of where the dream comes from in this regard, take your fears to God and talk to him about them. This dream speaks truth, and I think it was from the Holy Spirit – the fear is not from God though but I think this is your fleshly response to something from God that you need to lay at his feet and ask for his peace and confidence in Him in its place etc.
Your dream very much sums up the current times apostasy, and I feel the way things are going – already going in fact with Bush and many church leaders like Rick Warren etc.
It is true that we must pray and also speak out about this NOW – damage limitate as much as possible and not give any more ground than necessary.
Excellent page! I agree with all of your very excellent notes about dream interpretation. You will like my site; I say the same things.
Note to Paul: I actually married a woman based on a few years’ collected dreams. There were two sets: one told me all the details about a woman I would marry. The second were angels warning me that the entire thing was a set-up, and even took me to watch a group of demons plotting the entire thing, part of their plan to destroy me and the plan of my friends to help orphans and abused children.
I went to the church and told me friends the two sets. They said, “Robert, that second set of dreams is the devil! He just doesn’t want you to be happy!” Eventually, I found the woman, according to the details I had received – even on the exact day foretold, Feb 14, 2000 – It was a disaster. After we married I found out she was thick into witchcraft, etcetera…
Now I have spent years studying discernment. I can tell you, this page is a priceless tool!
Proverbs talks about the “good wife”, God’s voice of Wisdom, and the “bad wife”, Satan’s cheap imitation.
Be very, very, very careful! Pray a lot. If there is ANY doubt, find it and name it before you take any action.
Oh, and … kissing is for marriage!
I had a dream, about a man standing with a brignt light shinning all around him, two white doves flew out from him, as someone repeated this man is Holy, this dream was so vivid that I believe the Lord is going to reveal something to me. Can anyone help me out.
Thanks
Hi Sandy, your dream was your vocation, It was an angel of God standing at your presence. It means you must evangelize to the world. You have Holy Spirit, use it to glorify God. Goodluck
Hello, I have trouble with a dream that I had on 2/04/09 and since I have visited this site it may help me if possible that someone may have an answer for me. In my dream I am walking outside in front of this tall building & as I go around the corner there was this huge tornado. It was so close to us I could barely see it, but I felt it lift me off my feet and twirl me around. I remember my eyes closing and saying “this is it, I’m not going to make it.” Then somehow I managed to reach the ground; I really don’t know how I got there, but I know as soon as I landed I started to run back into the tall building where the tornado had been hiding on the other side this whole time. As I was running to the front door, there was somebody there, I remember yelling “go back inside there is a tornado out here. Come to find out that it was my daughter. This had to be the biggest and ugliest tornado I have ever seen; so black and strong. We managed to get the door shut because the wind was so wicket and extremely strong. As soon as we went outside we were standing inside on a platform surrounded by doors. There were at least 5 or 6 doors, but the strong wind of the tornado shut all the doors. My daughter was in one of the rooms so I told her to get down and stay down. While I was standing on the platform surrounded by the closed doors I seemed to feel safe and at the same time was talking on the phone to my cousin and she was telling me that she was experiencing the same tornado or she was feeling it from a distance. The tornado lasted for at least an hour or more, but it became worse every second so I told my daughter to come on the platform with me because it would be safer for her instead of being in the room she was in. A few minutes later (maybe 30 minutes) the building began to shake and I am really scared because my thinking was that this is a brick building and if the building comes down I will die. The more I waited the more the building kept coming down. Then I heard a rip or a tear as though the tornado tore the building in half and I knew it took the roof off, but there was no fighting it. We felt exposed or discovered once the roof came off. As I looked around me I could see othe people standing outside as if this tornado only hit my house and they were looking amazed and frightened at the same time. Suddenly I saw a lady flying down to me and said something to me, but I couldn’t make out what she said. She appeared to me as a cartoon character with blonde hair; some kind of super hero. As she flew away there were 2 other cartoon angels which flew to me from the direction that the first one came from. They were trying to tell me something, but I just oould not make out what they were saying so I kept asking them to repeat what they said and I noticed they kept on repeating themselves. I finally realized that I was sleep and began to come aware of my surroundings. The angels were still present and they were being nice and friendly to me as they kept on hovering aroun me as though they were waiting for something. I then woke up.
From Barbie Breathitt’s latest email. I haven’t read the entire email. It’s long. I get huge red flags concerning her, even though I believe God speaks to us in dreams.

In times of great change and transition we must allow the Lord to redirect our focus and steps. It is time to let go of the old in order to embrace the new. The Lord is opening new revelatory gates so we can prophesy life to the dry bones!
Last year 2008 was the Hebraic Year 5768. The pictorial origin of the number eight is the letter chet. The character chet pictures a fence, wall, gate or gateway, or a door. This demonstrated to us that inthe midst of everyobstacle, mountain, or wall that attempted to block our progress the Lord formed a gate of access or an opportunity for breakthrough with a new beginning.
The battle is always at the gates. Some gates lead to our thoughts, some to our relationships or ministries, and others to our businesses.Isaiah 28:6 says the Lord will give “strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.” This year when the enemy knocks, don’t tremble in fear but, reject his advancements. Don’t entertain him anymore. Cast down every vain imagination that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of God. Yesterday is behind us. It has become ancient history so it cannot dictate what our tomorrows will hold. It is time to wakeup to the new possibilities that are being offered. It is time to apprehend the fullness of the Spirit to bring forth maximum impact for today.
Sometimes in our desperate struggles, we shrink back or hide in caves of despair or depression. God has given us great grace to enable breakthrough. We can not afford to retreat anymore. Believing in, and releasing our faith in, God’s Word will help us establish a new way of thinking, walking and talking. Breakthrough causes us to hunger for an enlarged vision. A new vision can enable us to take more territory, walk in more power for salvation, deliverance, healing, and increased finances. Amos 3:7-8 tells us God does nothing unless he reveals his secret counsel to his servants the prophets. The prophetic is coming into a new season of divine alignment, authority, commissioning, and higher revelation through intercession and holiness.
It is time to exchange the old for the new. God alone holds our future! So place your hope and trust in God alone. Isaiah 43:18 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” God is going to make a way where there seems to be no way. He is the way maker! We serve a miracle working God in whom all things are possible if we “Only Believe!”
2009 will bring forth “completion” of our covenant preparation process. This will allow for the removal of negative things that God wants taken out of our lives. Breakthrough will remove hindrances and distractions of the past. Isaiah 49:8-9,“Thus says the Lord, “In a favorable time I have answered you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you; and I will keep you and give you for a covenant of the people, to restore the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritages; Saying to those who are bound, ‘Go forth, ‘To those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’” Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Believe and stand on the word of God. Pray in order to receive the fulfillment of promises. Prayer will open the gateways so the vision God has given can manifest on earth. Ezekiel 12:24, But tell them, “The days draw near as well as the fulfillment of every vision.”
2009 is a strategic year. It is the Hebrew year 5769. The number nine is the letter Tet. Nine is the number of the evangelist. We will see prophetic power evangelism coming forth on a new level this year. Nine also represents the Holy Spirit’s perfect movement to bring an end or a conclusion to certain unconstructive cycles in our life. God desires to bring us into fullness and spiritual maturity. His blessings bring completeness, a finality, and renewal to our hearts. Proverbs 10:22, tells us “It is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich, and He adds no sorrow to it. In 2009 the nine Fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit are going to flourish on a whole new level. This is the year of the womb being impregnated with the blessings and promises of God. Nine also speaks of judgment, tribulation and the serpent. Embracing judgment allows us to break old habits and renew a right heart. It is time to judge sin in our lives. God wants us to be consecrated vessels unto him. To enter the Holy of Holies with the Lord we need to abandon sins that hinder us from being completely dedicated to God. This is a year of change and fulfillment of promises through new spiritual alignments. The Bible also tells us “Through many tribulations we must enter the Kingdom of God.” (Acts 14:22) It is important to prepare a place in our heart to host his powerful presence, to be glory catalysts in the church and community. Psalms 68:8 says, “The earth quaked; the heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God; Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
God is creating a generation who will seek him with impassioned hunger. He is fashioning those who are willing to be consumed with the reality of his presence. Those who recognize the reality of his magnificence, and abiding power flowing like a mighty river through their inner most being. The depths of God are calling unto our spiritual depths drawing us to see, to know, and to hear his voice as never before. Those who know their God will do great exploits.
The joy of the Lord will be our strength during these times. Psalm 9:1says, “I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High. When my enemies turn back, they shall fall and perish at Your presence. For You have maintained my right and my cause; You sat on the throne judging in righteousness. You have rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked; You have blotted out their name forever and ever. O enemy, destructions are finished forever! And you have destroyed cities; even their memory has perished. But the LORD shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment. He shall judge the world in righteousness, and He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.”
In January, I awaked to an audible voice telling me, “It is time to widen!” Then, the Lord reminded me of the prayer of Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:10,“Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested.” I saw a vision of a large tent with its post expanding and enlarging in order to hold the new.
This year also indicates women are coming forth with spiritual fruit this year! The womb will bring forth completion. A womb is a protective, nourishing, reproductive atmosphere which is prepared to bring forth life .The womb of the bride will be impregnated to expand with new ideas, God strategies, and favor for saving souls. To bring a baby into this world requires being fertile. The next nine months will be a time of preparation and spiritual growth while enduring birth pains. What we conceive, we can birth and establish in 2009. Birthing requires great growth and a stretching to reach our full potential. At the fullness of time the membrane of the womb needs to be broken to bring forth the new. The womb is a catalyst that knows the fullness of time for birthing. The womb knows when it is time to push, and press in to break the water releasing the flow. Following God’s perfect plans and timing will bring success that will live for many years to come. The womb acting as a spiritual catalyst can precipitate a process or event with a small amount of substance. It modifies and increases the rate of a reaction without being consumed in the process.
The Lord will remember the barren and they will become fruitful in 2009. This is a time to repent of not bringing forth fruit in its season. I was shown a vision of women holding very large, empty wooden fruit baskets on their laps in church. Jesus desires us to be fruitful and multiply. This is the year to be fertilized so we can bring forth the Fruits of the Spirit releasing salvation to fill his house. Luke 13:6-9 “A man had a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any.” And he said to the vineyard-keeper, ‘Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree without finding any. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?’ “And he answered and said to him, ‘Let it alone, sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer; and if it bears fruit next year, fine; but if not, cut it down.’”
Hannah was barren but she fasted and prayed with a focus on having a son.1 Samuel 2:21, The Lord visited Hannah; and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew before the Lord. Hannah needed Peninnah to provoke her. She needed Eli the priest to misjudge her actions and grant her petition. We all need adversities and opposition in life to make us strong and totally dependent upon the Lord.
Sarah was barren but she became the mother of a nation. The angel Gabriel decreed Elizabeth’s pregnancy though she was labeled barren. The impossible became possible because Zacharias and Elizabeth kept praying, hoping and expecting a baby. John was filled with the Holy Spirit in the womb. John the Baptist was a forerunner with the spirit of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children.
Mary the mother of Jesus had to visit Elizabeth to align with destiny. We will all have divine appointments and alignments this year to position us to advance and reach our destinies. The Lord is bringing increase on a broader level. No longer will the circumstances of life dictate our present realities or position. The Kingdom that is within us is expanding and beginning to flow like a river watering the barren places. We will continue to increase and expand if we will focus on unity and God’s Kingdom business and mandates.
God’s Breath to you,
Barbie
I had this dream that has been on my mind. I am at a point where I can not not pay attention to them because many of the dreams I have had came true. Mostly about mothers (all believers) getting pregnant and having a baby. Many of these mothers need words of encouragement. This dream was very different because it was like it was going in a loop like a same song going on and on. This dream went in a loop three times. By the time it happen the third time I was half awake.
In this dream I was in a room watching our new president having a serious discussion with a group of men. They were huddling together like they were planning something. I felt like was was really in the room with them. All the sudden I am in a different location. I am in some type of building looking out and parked outside was a big red truck (like a fire truck). All the sudden the cover of a manhole by the truck popped open and the truck evaporated. The water in the DC/ Maryland area became undrinkable. By the third loop I was half awake and I asked when will this take place and I heard a voice say 21 days from today. It was so strange and I just knew this was something big and different. We need to pray for the people in that area because this dream was on February 2 …just a few weeks ago. As the date draws near I feel a sense of urgency to let others know.

Cool blog. It’s wonderful to hear about others who are “hearing” God’s voice.

I there, I have also had a dream that I just don’t know what to make of it.
I was busy ploughing a land with two milkcow’s strapped in infront of the plough. They both had covers over their eyes(like the one’s they usually put on horses, except they could not see any thing). As I was still busy ploughing down one side of the land my dad passed on my right, also ploughing, but I was going down and he came from the front.
I left my plough and cows, as they continued going forward and I ran back on the already ploughed land to show the people how fit I was and how good I could run.
I then turned and ran back to the cows and the plough, that were by this time at the edge of the land.
I tried to stop them but I couldn’t.
They just kept going forward and walked straight through the wire fench. My dad tried to help me stop them but we couldn’t stop them.
They kept going and fell into the river. I dove in after them and tried to save them.
I held on to the leg of one of the cows and tried to swim back up, but i coudn’t and I had to let go.
I have no idea what that all means, but obviously the dream is not your normal flesh dream and I would appreciate it if you can share your thoughts on this dream with me and should there be a person with the gift of interpreting dreams in the church please enlighten me.
I am trusting to get the revelation because, the word says we should seek our answers in the counsel of many.
Thank you(church ; many), your help will be much appreciated.
Seeking the the Truth(Jesus) in this matter.

Joseph: When I read your dream, right away I felt that it was regarding an event or decision that has already happened. It seemed like a very straight-forward dream about a path in life you were taking that was setting out a foundation for the rest of your life. You abandoned the path for something in your interest, just to realize you no longer wanted it. Your attempts to get back on the “right” path were unsuccessful, so you have given up. This does not mean it is still not possible to return to the original path, but perhaps it will take some work and not as easily obtainable as you may have thought. Maybe someone else can provide more insight. This was just my immediate reaction.
I originally was intending to post a dream I had been having, but I felt the need to respond to yours instead.
