Christian prophecy for the church and for the nations from a servant of God called to speak God’s word

Ellen G White, prophetess of Seventh Day Adventism

A number of people have asked me about Ellen Gould White, the founder of Seventh Day Adventism. Mrs White, like many false prophets and teachers, may have been very sincere and well meaning, but she is proven by history to be a false prophet as she repeatedly predicted the end of the world coming on a certain date and was repeatedly wrong on this, and she also prophesied a number of other failed things and had prophesied flawed theology too. There are also numerous verifiable claims that she was not only a hypocrit, but also a liar and plagiarist on multiple counts.

Ellen G White is proven to have stolen a large amount of material to put in her books that she claimed to be the author of (through direct inspiration). She actually  had a staff of college educated secretaries stealing this information from other works and then altering them a little in an attempt to cover up this piracy. She then dared to claim that God  had given her every word she needed as she herself authored these lengthy works. She was therefore a fraud (who had no real fear of God) as well as a liar and a thief. See here for one of her secretaries’ testimonies blowing the whistle on this reprehensible behaviour: http://www.truthorfables.com/Fannie_Bolton_Confession_1901.htm

Furthermore it was not just what she prophesied but how she claimed these revelations were recieved. On a pro-adventist website I found the following testimonies regarding what supposedly happened when White was in a trance.

‘My next-door neighbor, Mr. Diagneau, had never before seen her (White) in vision, and so used many tests to satisfy himself that she did not breathe, that she knew nothing of what transpired around her, and that she was controlled by a superior power. ‘

‘Mr. Diagneau was a strong man, a stone mason. While in vision Mrs. White would clasp her hands together upon her chest, and he could not by the utmost exertion raise one finger sufficiently to get his thumb and finger between her finger and hand. Almost the next moment she would unclasp her hands and gracefully move her arm and hand toward the subject she seemed to be viewing.

‘While her arm was extended, Elder White said, “Brother Diagneau, that looks like an easy motion, and as though you, a strong man, could easily bend her arm. You can try it if you wish.” He then placed his knee in the bend of her elbow, and taking hold of the extended hand with both his hands, pulled backward with all his might without bending it in the least. He commented, “I would as soon try to bend an iron bar as that arm.” Before he had closed the sentence, her arm passed gracefully back to her chest, but with a force that slid his feet on the floor while trying to resist. He at once admitted that there was superhuman strength connected with the vision, for he well knew Mrs. White to be a woman of delicate health.’

‘There was present a Doctor Brown, a hale, strong man physically, who was a Spiritualist medium. As was afterward learned, he had said that Mrs. White’s visions were the same as spirit mediumship, and that if she had one where he was, he could bring her out of it in one minute.

‘Elder White gave an invitation for all who desired to do so to come forward and by examination satisfy themselves as to her condition while in vision. Some one said, “Doctor, go ahead, and do as you said you would.” Elder White then asked: “Is there a doctor in the house? We always like to have physicians examine Mrs. White in vision.”

‘The doctor started quite bravely; but before he got half way to Mrs. White, he turned deathly pale and shook like a leaf. He was urged to go on and make the examination. As soon as this was completed, he made his way rapidly to the door, and seized hold of the knob to go out.

‘Those standing by prevented him, saying: “Go back, and do what you said you would do. Bring that woman out of the vision.” Elder White, seeing the doctor trying to get out of the door, said, “Will the doctor please report to the audience?” He replied, “Her heart and pulse are regular, but there is not a particle of breath in her body.” Then, in great agitation, he again grasped the knob of the door. The people near him said, “Doctor, what is it?” He replied, “God only knows; let me out of this house.” And out he went.

‘Brother White arose and informed the audience that his wife was in vision. After stating the manner of her visions, and that she did not breathe while in vision, he invited any one who wished to do so to come forward and examine her. Dr. Drummond, a physician, who was also a First-day Adventist preacher, who (before he saw her in vision) had declared her visions to be of mesmeric origin, and that he could give her a vision, stepped forward, and after a thorough examination, turned very pale, and remarked, ‘She doesn’t breathe!’

“I am quite certain that she did not breathe at that time while in vision, nor in any of several others which she has had when I was present. The coming out of the vision was as marked as her going into it. The first indication we had that the vision was ended, was in her again beginning to breathe. She drew her first breath deep, long, and full, in a manner showing that her lungs had been entirely empty of air. After drawing the first breath, several minutes passed before she drew the second, which filled the the lungs precisely as did the first; then a pause of two minutes, and a third inhalation, after which the breathing became natural.” Signed, “M. G. Kellogg, M.D., Battle Creek, Mich., Dec. 28, 1890.”

These spiritual manifestations are not biblical, and are either indicative of being controlled by unclean demonic spirits and/or of quakery and fraud. I am more inclined to think fraud rather than genuine deception because of the other evident contradictions surrounding Ellen G White (such as the plagiarism and the other covering up that went on). At a time in the 19th century when mediumship and spiritualism was all the rage, it would not be surprising for someone to try to imitate a medium’s trance albeit under a ‘Christian’ guise. Manifestations were impressive to the human mind. (Not unlike today where more attention is paid to the manifestation than what is actually spoken). Furthermore, she claims to have had an ‘accompanying angel’ (a bit like William Branham, Todd Bentley and Bob Jones claim to do) which is almost always a red flag indicating a false prophet and/or a charlatan. There are aspects of mediumpship too in her writings, see for example this claim of getting directions from the Lord from her dead husband: http://www.truthorfables.com/EGW_Talking_to_the_Dead_James.htm

Regardless of whether she was decieved or a deciever (or both), the Bible states that ‘The spirit of the prophets is subject to the prophets’, whom are in full control of their senses. There is no record of any holding their breaths or not breathing for thirty minutes or any other such fantastical claims. In fact the early church fathers recognised Montanus to be a false prophet (albeit genuine believer)  because of all the spiritual manifestation and the not being in control when  he spoke. These manifestations of White’s if  truly reported are that of a medium flowing with occult spirits, rather than with the Holy Spirit.

As to what  was actually spoken:  this proves (regardless of your theology) that it was not the Holy Spirit that Ellen G White spoke by as she was obviously so wrong time and time again. First she said the end of the world was coming in the 7th month of 1843 using a flawed chart by William Miller. In a meeting in 1842 she fell into a trance, and coming out of it confirmed the 1843 chart. She said: “In 1842 I constantly attended the second advent meetings in Portland, Maine, and fully believed that the Lord was coming. Inexpressible love for Jesus filled my soul. Wave after wave of glory rolled over me, until my body grew stiff…I remained in this state of body and mind a long time…..(I Saw)…the 1843 chart was directed by the hand of the Lord, and that it should not be altered, that the figures were as He wanted them…”

She, with other members of her family, accepted William Miller’s preaching on the Second Advent of Christ. Of the year preceding the expected Advent, she wrote: “This was the happiest year of my life.”

When 1843 failed, White explained by recalculating the chart the figures all pointed to ‘in the spring of 1844′, but this failed too. She then saw visions pointing to Christ’s return on Oct. 22, 1844. When this failed it became 1845. She wlater rote: “It is well known that many were expecting the Lord to come at the 7th month 1845. That Christ would then come, we firmly believed”.

She later predicted Jesus return for 1850: “In a view given June 27, 1850, my accompanying angel said: ‘Time is almost finished’…what we have been years in learning, they (new believers) will have to learn in a few short months …then I saw that the seven last plagues were soon to be poured out.” …. “I saw that the time for Jesus to be in the most holy place was nearly finished and that time can last but a very little longer…The sealing time is very short, and will soon be over.”

God told Ellen White that individuals attending the Conference at Battle Creek on May 27, 1856 would still be alive at Christ’s second coming. “I was shown the company present at the conference. Said the angel “Some food for worms, some subjects of the seven last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus”.

She also said during the Civil War, England will attack the Unites States and humble America to the dust.

“I was shown…England fully understands…that the war is not to do away slavery…This nation (USA) will yet be humbled into the dust…When England does declare war, all nations will have an interest of their own to serve, and there will be general war, general confusion”.

She claimed none could be saved after the 2,300 years ended October 22, 1844. (This is called the ’shut door’ doctrine.) “For a time after the disappointment in 1844, I did hold in common with the advent body that the door of mercy was then forever closed to the world…..While in Exeter, Maine, in a meeting with Israel Dammon, James, and many others, many of them did not believe in a shut door… It was then I had a view of Jesus rising from his mediatorial throne and going to the holiest as Bridegroom to receive his kingdom…Most of them received the vision and were settled upon the shut door.”

She also wrongly claimed that Old Jerusalem never would be built up.

“I was pointed to some who are in the great error of believing that it is their duty to go to Old Jerusalem, and think they have a work to do there before the Lord comes…I also saw that Old Jerusalem never would be built up”.

Here is a list of false prophecies from http://www.bible.ca/7-prophecy-blunders.htm

  1. “I have seen that the 1843 chart (Wm. Miller’s) was directed by the hand of the Lord and that it should not be altered that the figures were as he wanted them.” EARLY WRITINGS p. 64 edition 1882
  2. (First Vision 12/1844) “It was just as impossible for them (those that gave up their faith in the 1844 movement) to get on the path again and go to the city, as all the wicked world which God had rejected. They fell all the way along the path one after another,” (Foregoing now deleted) “until we heard the voice of God like many waters, WHICH GAVE US THE DAY AND HOUR OF JESUS’ COMING. The living saints, 144,000 in number, knew and understood the voice, while the wicked thought it was thunder and an earthquake. When God spake the time, he poured on us the Holy Ghost, and our faces began to light up and shine with the glory of God as Moses’ did when he came down from Mount Sinai.” A WORD TO THE LITTLE FLOCK (1847 edition) p. 14
  3. ELLEN FORGETS HOUR PROCLAIMED “I have not the slightest knowledge as to the time spoken by the voice of God. I heard the hour proclaimed, but had no remembrance of that hour after I came out of vision.” SELECTED MESSAGES 1 p. 298 (1889)
  4. ELLEN LOST HER VISIONS “In our frequent change of location in the earlier history of the publishing work, and I have crossed the plains no less than 17 times I lost all trace of the first published works.” . . . “And here I pause to state that any of our people having in their possession a copy of any or all of my first views, as published prior to 1851, will do me a great favor if they will send them to me without delay.” SELECTED MESSAGES 1 p. 60
  5. “It is well known that many were expecting the Lord to come at the 7th month, 1845. That Christ would then come we firmly believed. A few days before the time passed, I was at Fairhaven, and Dartsmouth, Mass, with a message on this point of time. At this time, Ellen was with the band at Carver, Mass, where she saw in vision, that we should be disappointed,” A WORD TO THE LITTLE FLOCK p. 22 by James White 1847
  6. E. G. White prophesied the world would end in 1843, 1844, 1845 & 1851: “Now time is almost finished, (1851) and what we have been 6 years in learning they will have to learn in months.” EARLY WRITINGS p. 57
  7. “For a time after the disappointment in 1844, I did hold, in common with the advent body, that the door of mercy was then forever closed to the world . . . I was shown in vision, and I still believe, that there was a shut door in 1844.” SELECTED MESSAGES 1 p. 63
  8. “I saw the state of the different churches since the second angel proclaimed their fall. (In 1844) They have been growing more and more corrupt . . . Satan has taken full possession of the churches as a body . . . Their professions, their prayers and their exhortations are an abomination in the sight of GOD.” Spiritual Gifts Vol 1p. 189.
  9. White blames her failed prophecy on the members of the Seventh-day Adventist church! “Thus the work was hindered, and the world was left in darkness. Had the whole Adventist body united upon the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, how widely different would have been our history.” SELECTED MESSAGES, Book 1, p. 299
  10. Concerning some of her “revelations,” Biederwolf, Seventh-Day Adventism, p. 8f “In one of her visions her accompanying angels told her that the time of salvation for all sinners ended in 1844. She now claims the door of mercy is still open…In another vision she discovered that women should wear short dresses with pants and she and her sister followers dressed this way for eight years. But the ridiculous custom has now been abandoned….”
  11. The following is a glimpse at some other peculiar teachings of Mrs. White which shows what she believed God to be instructing in matters of diet:
  12. “You have used the fat of animals, which God in his word expressly forbids” page 61).
  13. “Cheese should never be introduced into the stomach” (Testimonies to the Church, Vol. 2, page 68).
  14. “It is just as much sin to violate the laws of our being as to break one of the Ten Commandments” ([eating a slice of bacon is as sinful as committing adultery] Testimonies to the Church, Vol. 2, page 70).
  15. “The use of swine’s flesh is contrary to his express commandments” (Testimonies to the Church, Vol. 2, page 96).
  16. She also affirms that her “visits” to heaven were easily made because after having left there during one of her visits an angel “handed me a green cord coiled up closely. This he directed me to place next to my heart, and when I wished to see Jesus, take from my bosom and stretch it to the utmost. He cautioned me not to let it remain coiled for any length of time lest it should become knotted and difficult to straighten.”
  17. Quoting further from ‘Early Writings’ (pp. 258-261) we find Mrs. White claimed that the teaching that Christ moved into the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary in 1844 was the “third angel’s message”, and then she declares, Woe to him who shall move a block or stir a pin of these messages.” She said further that those who reject her interpretation of the “third angel’s message” were “fighting against God” and “they offered up their useless prayer to the apartment which Jesus (Yeshua) has left, and Satan, pleased with the deception, assumes a religious character, and leads the minds of these professed Christians to himself working with his power, his signs and lying wonders to fasten them in his snare.” From the foregoing statements of Mrs. White we find that all one needs to do is to disbelieve her interpretations of the 1844 move in the Heavenly Sanctuary and Satan immediately “fastens them in his snare” and they are hopelessly deceived. This statement is so radical and obviously untrue that even the S.D.A.’s do not believe it any more. Yet look at what White said again!
  18. “I was shown the company present at the Conference. Said the angel: Some food for worms, some subject to the last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus’” (Vol. 1, p. 131). NOTE: This statement was made in 1856 and every one present in that meeting is now dead. Obviously, this was a false prophecy. Some S.D.A.’s, in trying to extricate themselves from the dilemma of this false statement, have argued that had God’s people been faithful the Lord would have come long ago. But this excuse will not hold water, because God knew ahead of time what would happen. And Mrs. White made no conditions for the fulfillment of her prophecy. Her statement is plain and to the point.
  19. “Thousands have been induced to enlist with the understanding that this war to exterminate slavery, but now that they are fixed, they find that they have been deceived, that the object of this war is not to abolish slavery, but to preserve it” Vol. 1, pp. 254, 258). We know now that the Civil War in the USA did indeed abolish slavery. Mrs. White was wrong.
  20. “This nation will yet be humbled into the dust. England is studying whether it is best to take advantage of the present weak condition of our nation and venture to make war on her…When England does declare war, all nations will have one interest of their own to serve, and there will be general war, general confusion”(Vol.1 p.259). NOTE: This was a FALSE prophecy. England did not declare war on the U.S.A.
  21. “Eggs should not be placed upon your table. They are an injury to your children” (Vol. 2, p. 400). “We bare positive testimony against tobacco, rich cakes, spirituous liquors, snuff, tea, coffee, flesh meats, butter, spice, mince pies…” (Vol. 3, p. 21).”Children are allowed to eat flesh meats, spices, butter, cheese, pork, rich pastry…These things do their work of deranging the stomach” (Vol. 3, p. 136). Mrs. White places “meat, butter and cheese” in the same category as tobacco, liquor, etc. This, is contrary to the Bible for Jesus Himself ate fish (Luke 24:41-43). In John 21:9-12 we find that Jesus Himself prepared flesh meat and said to His disciples, “Come and eat.” The Bible tells us that Jesus ate butter (Isaiah 7:15) Mrs. White said, “Do not eat” but Jesus said, “Come and dine”. Paul said, “In the latter times some shall depart from the faith…commanding to abstain from meats which God had created to be received” (1 Timothy 4:3).The Bible declares that to teach to abstain from meats is a “departing from the faith”.
  22. “Soon we heard the voice of God like many waters which gave us the day and hour of Jesus coming…When God spoke the time, He poured upon us the Holy Spirit” (Vol. 1 p. 59). In this reference Mrs. White claims that the Lord gave her the day and hour of His coming. In Matthew’s 24:36 Jesus said, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels in heaven, but my Father only.” And, of course, we know today she was wrong because Jesus did not come when she expected Him.
  23. Next we find that Mrs. White claimed that she was one of the 144,000 who would be living when Jesus comes. Here is the question: “Then Jesus’ silver trumpet sounded, as He descended on the cloud, wrapped in saints, then raised His eyes and hands to heaven, and cried, ‘Awake! Awake! Awake! ye that sleep in the dust and arise!’ Then there was almighty earthquake. The graves opened, and the dead came up clothed with immortality. The 144,000 shouted Alleluia! as they recognized their friends whom had been torn from them by death, and in the same moment we were changed” (Vol. 1, p.60). Mrs. White was mistaken again for she died in 1915 and therefore the vision was false. She was also wrong in stating that there would be only 144,000 “living saints” at the hour of Jesus’ coming (p. 59). The Bible says they would be without number Revelation 7:9.
  24. Now wish to refer the reader to quotations from Mrs. White’s book entitled “Early Writings” and show some of the errors and contradictions found therein. On page 11 she says, “In 1842 I constantly attended the second advent meetings in Portland, Maine, and fully believed that the Lord was coming.” Then she describes, “What a fullness I enjoyed through believing that the Lord was coming. Inexpressible love for Jesus filled my soul. Wave after wave of glory rolled over me, until my body grew stiff…I remained in this state of body and mind a long time” (p.12). NOTE: Her joy was based upon the belief that Jesus was coming back to earth in 1844. This proved to be a false belief.
  25. When Jesus did not come in 1844 as Mrs. White believed, she than said that “the 1843 chart was directed by the hand of the Lord and that it should not be altered, that the figures were as He wanted them, that his hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures so that none could see it, until His hand was removed” (Early Writings, p.74).
  26. On pages 42-45 (Early Writings) Mrs. White describes a closing of a door in the holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, and an opening in the most holy place (in 1844), that the “midnight cry” was finished at the seventh month 1844, (see p. 43), that then was the “sealing time”, and that the time for salvation for sinners had passed (p.45). All the above statements have been proven false by the fact that Christ did NOT return to earth in 1844. The “midnight cry” WAS NOT FINISHED IN 1844, FOR THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT HE DID THIS AT HIS ASCENSION (SEE HEBREWS 6:19; 9:24). The time for the salvation of sinners did NOT pass in 1844. If it did WE ARE TOAST TODAY!
  27. When the Advent people and Mrs. White were disappointed in 1844 because Jesus did not come they revised their interpretation of certain prophecies and concluded that they were wrong in their figures that Jesus would come in the spring of 1844, but that the correct time would be on the seventh month of 1850. Here is what Mrs. White said, “Time is almost finished”, (E.W.,p. 64). “Said the angel ‘Deny self, ye must step fast.’ Some of us have had the time to get the truth and to advance step by step…But now TIME IS ALMOST FINISHED, and what we have been years learning they will have to lean IN A FEW MONTHS” (E.W.,p.67). “Some are looking too far off for the coming of the Lord. Time has continued a few years longer than they expected therefore they think it may continue a few years more. And in this way their minds have been led from present truth…I saw the time for Jesus to be in the most holy place WAS NEARLY FINISHED and that time can last but very little longer. The sealing time is very short and will soon be over” (E.W.,p.58).
  28. In the year 1850 Bible scholars were teaching of the return of the Jews to Palestine and the restoration of Jerusalem. Here is what Mrs. White said about this: “I also saw that old Jerusalem would never be built up, and that Satan was doing the utmost to lead the minds of the children of the Lord into these things now in the gathering time, to keep them from throwing their interests into the work of the Lord and to cause them to neglect the necessary preparation”(E.W.,p.75).
  29. Mrs. White taught that Jesus moved from the first apartment of the heavenly sanctuary into the most holy place in 1844, and that those who did not believe this doctrine, Satan answered their prayers when they prayed for the Holy Spirit. Here is her statement: “I saw the Father rise from the throne and in a flaming chariot go into the holy of holies within the vale, and sit down. Then Jesus rose up from the throne and the most of those who bowed down arose with Him. Then a cloudy chariot…came to where Jesus was. He stepped into the chariot and was borne to the throne; they did not know that Jesus had left it. Satan appeared to be by the throne, trying to carry on the work of God. I saw them look up to the throne and say, ‘Father give us the Spirit.’ Satan would than breathe upon them an unholy influence…”(E.W.,p.55,56). In the first place, the Bible teaches that when Jesus ascended to heaven He went directly into the most holy place or “within the vale”(Hebrews 6:19;9:24), not in 1844. Further, when Jesus died on the cross/tree the vale between the holy and the most holy place was rent in two (Matthew 27:51) which indicated that Christ’s sacrifice made it possible for believers’ prayers to reach the very dwelling place of GOD, which was in the most holy place, and more particularly, between the cherubim’s above the mercy seat of the ark (Exodus 25:22; Leviticus 16:2). This happened immediately after Christ’s ascension, not in 1844. It is therefore grossly erroneous to teach that Satan answers the prayers of those who do not believe that Jesus moved from one apartment to another in 1844!
  30. Mrs. White taught that in the communion service the sisters should wash the feet of the brethren (E.W.,p.117). Now this is considered so out of order that even S.D.A’s do not follow this instruction.
  31. Next, we wish to take another book written by Mrs. White. The following quotations will be taken from her book ‘THE GREAT CONTROVERSY.’ On page 546, she says, “In 1844, attended by heavenly angels, our great High Priest entered the holy of holies, and there appears in the presence of God, to engage in the last acts of His ministration in behalf of man-to perform the work of investigative judgment, and to MAKE ATONEMENT for all who are shown to be entitled to its benefits.” (Quotes from ‘Great Controversy’, 1927 Ed.) Yet in Hebrews 9:26-28 it says that Christ “put away sin, once, by the sacrifice of Himself” and “Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many”, and again in Hebrews 10:10, “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL”, and in verse 14, “For by ONE offering He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.”
  32. Mrs. White teaches that no sins were blotted out until 1844-”at the close of the 2300 days, in 1844, BEGAN the work of investigation AND THE BLOTTING OUT OF SINS” (G.C.,p.552).
  33. Mrs. White teaches that an “Investigative Judgment” began in 1844, that only the cases of the righteous come up for investigation in this judgment and the purpose is “to determine” who are saved. Here is her statement: “In 1844…our High Priest entered the holy of holies… to perform the work of investigative judgment. The only cases considered are those of the professed people of God” (p.546). “All who have ever taken upon themselves the name of Christ must pass its searching scrutiny”(p.552). “This work of examination of character, of determining who are prepared for the kingdom of God, is that of the Investigative Judgment”(p.489). “There must be an examination of the books of record to determine who, through repentance of sin and faith in Christ are entitled to the benefits of His atonement”(p.480).
  34. Mrs. White stated further, “The judgment is now passing in the sanctuary above. For many years this work has been in progress. Soon-none know how soon-it will pass to the cases of the living” (p. 556). At this point I wish to quote from another notable S.D.A. writer, L.H. Christian, in his book, ‘Facing the Crisis’, published in 1937 by the ‘Review and Herald’, that elaborated upon Mrs. White’s statement. “In this work of judgment which began in heaven in 1844, when the 2300 years ended, the eternal faith of every soul will be decided. Beginning, no doubt with Abel, the first to die, one by one the names of all are called and the destiny of each decided…From that decision there will be no appeal. We know not what hour the Lord will come to our name and decide our case forever. It may be today, it may be tomorrow” (p. 283).
  35. On page 481 of ‘Great Controversy’ (1927 ed.) Mrs. White says, “When Christ by virtue of His own blood removes the sins of His people from the heavenly sanctuary at the close of His ministration, He will place them upon Satan, who in execution of the judgment, must bear the final penalty.”
  36. Mrs. White states that the prophecy of Daniel 8:14-”Unto 2300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed,” was fulfilled in 1844 (G.C.,pp.484, 475, 486), that it was the heavenly sanctuary that was cleansed (p. 475), and that it was the confessed sins of God’s people that defiled the heavenly sanctuary (p. 480).
  37. On page 487 (G.C.) Mrs. White says, “The proclamation, ‘Behold the Bridegroom cometh’ in the summer of 1844, led thousands to expect the immediate advent of Christ. At the appointed time the Bridegroom came, not to the earth, as the people expected, but to those Ancient of Days in heaven to the marriage, the reception of His kingdom. They that were ready went in with Him to the marriage, and the door was shut.” Also, “In the summer and autumn of 1844 the proclamation ‘Behold the Bridegroom cometh’ was given. The two classes represented by the wise and foolish virgins were then developed.”
  38. On page 492 (G.C.) Mrs. White says that if anyone rejects her interpretation of the sanctuary service, etc. there is no atonement for that person. Here is her statement: “It is those who by faith follow Jesus in the great work of atonement, who receive the benefits of His mediation in their behalf, while those who REJECT THE LIGHT which brings to view this work of ministration, are not benefited thereby.”
  39. In TESTIMONIES, (Volume 8, p. 117), Mrs White says, “The seal of God is revealed in the observance of the Seventh Day Sabbath.”
  40. In TESTIMONIES, Volume 1, pp. 206, 207, Mrs. White says PORK is “nourishing and strengthening food” and rebukes a brother for teaching that it was forbidden food. “They who labor with their hands must nourish their strength to perform this labor, and those also who labor in the Word and doctrine must nourish their strength. They should eat of nourishing and strengthening food to build up their strength…I saw that your views concerning swine’s flesh would prove no injury to you if you have them to yourself; but in your judgment and opinion you have made this question a test. IF GOD REQUIRES HIS PEOPLE TO ABSTAIN FROM SWINE’S FLESH, He will convict them on the matter. 1. Dear Sister Miriam,
Could you please with your gift of knowledge and discernment explain why my son Aaron and i both saw in the night sky a vision of the Divine Mercy? I know you are familiar with some of the Catholic mystics and visionaries, this appearance was given to Sister Faustina and Jesus asked her to have a portrait painted of Him and His mercy.
I at that time was a new convert to Catholicism {i have since come out and been born again} in simple childlike faith i believed this was how God moves and how awesome He is. The vision if i could measure in feet was app. 200 or 300 ft. i am not sure because it was in front of the trees in the back and was twice as high as they are. it was beautiful, i looked to see if man could have done this by a airplane or lights on the ground and there was not a natural reason for this. i called my son over who was 7 and said look and he fell to his knees and started praying the Our Father. I knew this was a gift and message of His mercy and love for all of us and am forever thankful
and grateful for His sacrifice. Do you know what this vision meant not only for us but for all of His children, do you believe that because it was first given to A Catholic sister {who by the way was not very well liked by many of her sisters, the spirit of jealousy is alive and well even in convents] that it is a false vision? why would both of us see this and noone else?
    Shalom

  3. Okay…I keep the Sabbath and there are new testament scriptures to show that the Sabbath was never done away with. So will you say that I am in error. BTW- I do not follow Ellen G White or any of her false prophesies and I am also not Adventist. I believe in God’s commandment and the Sabbath is one of them. Acts 13:14-15, 42-44, “When the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, THE GENTILES besought that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.” Acts 13:42

Now Like I said in the post about tithing, the sabbath was given to Man by God before there was a jewish people. It was reestablished with all the rules and regulations in Exodus. Even Hebrews 4 states that there remaith a rest to the people of God. Most people say it is talking spiritual but read it closely casue it says: If Jesus (Joshua) had given then rest would he not have spoken of another day…Therefore let us labor (physical) to enter into God’s rest…There remaineth a rest to the people of God.

  4. Dear sister Miriam,
One evening as i was getting my children ready for school the next day, just a regular night nothing especially significant had occured before this, we live on a hundred acres with my inlaws next to us and the next neighbors behind us a mile away behind the small forest that is approximately 1/4 mi. behind our house. I was walking past the doorwall that faces this southern view, i looked up and saw in front of and higher than the trees a ray of red and ray of white pulsing light flowing from the heavens, just like in the Divine Mercy that sister Faustina saw. but after questioning the reality of what i was seeing and checking to see it was not a man made trick or delusion , i called my son Aaron to come and see because the red became redder and the white more bright and if i was hallucinating no one else would see right? He was only 7 at this time but he saw what i was seeing and fell to his knees and started praying, Our Father……..we stayed there until the vision was gone, i don,t know how long this lasted,
In my heart i believe the Holy Spirit was showing us how in these great and terrible days His Love and Mercy is pouring out on the whole world for whosoever will come, come and see
come and be cleansed in the water and blood of Redemption.
His mercy is now and for today and the time is coming when the fountain of His mercy will end,and the day of judgement will begin. in my heart i beleve this is the message that needs to be spoken.
My husband when i told him later said it was probably the northern lights but we were looking out a south facing doorwall.
SO what do you think this means in relation to the R.C.C. ,
endtimes, visions, and prophesy. Do you believe sister Faustina was a true visionary even though she was Catholic?
Not long after this it seemed as if everything went to —-,
    by the way.
    Shalom

  5. Rebecca:

I do not know what this was you experienced – it may have been some sort of astronomical phenomonan that can be explained by science, like upside rainbows and other weird things like colored beams of light you see that look spectaculor and spiritual when you see them but are natural phenomonan none the less. It is the most natural thing in the world to supernaturally interpret weird beams of light and the like to be ‘God speaking somehow’. I am not being patronising in saying this, as I have seen some very sensible people ‘taken’ in by signs in the sky which were only natural when the facts came in. They think words along with this in their mind which they then interpret as a divinely inspired vision, when it never was, and if they are not Christians they will interpret them to be alien adbuctions or whatever instead to fit in with their world view. A weird phenomonan occurs first and then a ‘word’/ideas are recieved. This is very common in Catholicism. Biblically, this is very seldom the case though (apart from with Moses and the burning bush). Words almost always occur without the strange phenomona.

It needs to be pointed out that God speaks through his creation always anyway, and what you thought when you saw it is not necessarily wrong, it just means it was not miracuolously inspired.

I am not saying it definitely were not supernatural though – I do not know, I was not there. But if there was just the phenomonan and no word with the ‘vision’, indicating if it were of divine origin it were not a ‘vision’ but a ’sign’ in the sky. But even then a sign in the sky without a word to it is unlikely to be from God.

As to sister Faustina, or St MARY FAUSTINA KOWALSKA, she was a Marian and still in the Roman Catholic church. How can she be a true visionary as God would have led her out?

    From a Vatican website -

The years Sister Mary Faustina consists spent at the convent were filled with extraordinary gifts, such as: revelations, visions, hidden stigmata, participation in the Passion of the Lord, the gift of bilocation, the reading of human souls, the gift of prophecy, or the rare gift of mystical engagement and marriage. The living relationship with God, the Blessed Mother, the Angels, the Saints, the souls in Purgatory — with the entire supernatural world — was as equally real for her as was the world she perceived with her senses.

She also entreated God’s mercy for the whole world and particularly for sinners, among others through the practice of new forms of devotion to the Divine Mercy presented by the Lord Jesus, such as: the veneration of the image of the Divine Mercy with the inscription: Jesus, I Trust in You, the feast of the Divine Mercy celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter, chaplet to the Divine Mercy and prayer at the Hour of Mercy (3 p.m.). The Lord Jesus attached great promises to the above forms of devotion, provided one entrusted one’s life to God and practiced active love of one’s neighbor.

    This is idolatory and ritual.

    Among other things she said:

“In the evening, when I was in my cell, I became aware of the Lord Jesus clothed in a white garment. One hand was raised in blessing, the other was touching the garment at the breast. From the opening of the garment at the breast there came forth two large rays, one red and the other pale. In silence I gazed intently at the Lord; my soul was overwhelmed with fear, but also with great joy. After a while Jesus said to me, ‘paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the inscription: Jesus, I trust in You.’”

This was to make an image to be idolised and venerated and also goes against the commandment not to make images of the Lord or have idols.

‘Today, the Lord came to me and said, My daughter, help Me to save souls. You will go to a dying sinner, and you will continue to recite the chaplet, and in this way you will obtain for him trust in My mercy, for he is already in despair.’

This is not biblical and is antichristl! Reciting any voodoo mass ritual over someone will not save their soul! It is typical Roman Catholic claptrap, and in fact I will bet my bottom dollar that Rome intervened and added in words of their own to this visionary’s experiences, as they have long been accustomed to do. She was also made a Saint in 2000, a Polish woman under a Polish Pope who had dedicated Poland to the Virgin Mary. This was not coincedental.

‘My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you. It pleases Me to grant everything they ask of Me by saying the chaplet. When hardened sinners say it, I will fill their souls with peace, and the hour of their death will be a happy one. Write this for the benefit of distressed souls; when a soul sees and realizes the gravity of it sins, when the whole abyss of the misery into which it immersed itself is displayed before its eyes, let it not despair, but with trust let it throw itself into the arms of My mercy, as a child into the arms of its beloved mother. These souls have a right of priority to My compassionate Heart, they have first access to My mercy. Tell them that no soul that has called upon My mercy has been disappointed or brought to shame.’

Jesus apparently said later to Sister Faustina:

“Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you. Anyone who says it will receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as the last hope. Even the most hardened sinner, if he recites this Chaplet even once, will receive grace from My Infinite Mercy. I want the whole world to know My Infinite Mercy. I want to give unimaginable graces to those who trust in My Mercy……..When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person not as the just judge but as the Merciful Savior”.

The chaplet replaces simple faith in Jesus and is like a magical charm. It contains hail mary among other blasphemies, and is pagan vain repetition. It is also said to be more powerful on certain feast days, which again contradicts the Bible. See here for it images: http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/mercy/dmmap.htm

Sr Faustina Kowalska wrote in her Diary: “I feel tremendous pain when I see the sufferings of my neighbours. All my neighbours’ sufferings reverberate in my own heart; I carry their anguish in my heart in such a way that it even physically destroys me. I would like all their sorrows to fall upon me, in order to relieve my neighbour” (Diary, p. 365).

This is a typical Roman Catholic belief, which is in fact antichrist.

I am sure there is many more facts to point to this nun and Saint being false, but that is more than enough evidence for now.

  8. E.G. White herself reminds us to test every doctrine or precept with the Bible and the Bible only. (”Before accepting any doctrine or precept, we should demand a plain ‘Thus saith the Lord in its support.’”)

I think by her fruits it is clear whether or not she walked her talk.

The book “The Great Controversy” (by E.G. White) is a good read. I’m on chapter 41 now (the second to the last chapter). So far I haven’t read anything contrary to the Bible.

The Amazing Fact’s Millennium of Prophecy series is also enlightening.

  9. Laou: so you are Ok with her repeatedly being wrong, and on a large scale systematically stealing other author’s material and misrepresenting it to be her authorship? The bible would call this BAD FRUIT – it is lying, cheating and stealing! Is this walking the talk? Only the fruit of a false prophet, surely?

  10. Mrs. White did not call herself a prophet – others used that title when speaking of her. She referred to herself as a messenger of God. And in many of her books she DOES list sources of material and encourages her readers to read the books she obtained information from…..as did many writers of that time period….it was a common thing. She was well within the copyright laws of that time. Her books consist of information obtained by inspiration from God as well as known material. She never claimed that every single word written by her was from a direct communication from God. She made that very clear.

She came from a period when Bible believers, studying prophecy, mistakenly concluded that Christ would return to the earth in 1844. When that did not happen, the belivers went back to the Bible and through much study and prayer were able to conclude what had actually happened in 1844. Christ entered the Most Holy Place in the Heavenly sanctuary.

  11. Vicki wrote: …the belivers went back to the Bible and through much study and prayer were able to conclude what had actually happened in 1844. Christ entered the Most Holy Place in the Heavenly sanctuary.

According to numerous NT scriptures, Jesus has been seated at the right hand of Jehovah God WAY before 1844 (Could there be a more Holy Place than that?). It occurred some time just after His resurrection. (Matt 26:64; Luke 22:69; Acts 2:33; Acts 7:55; Col 3:1; Heb 1:3…) The book of Hebrews spells this out in chapters 9 and 10. We, as NT believers, can now freely enter the Most Holy Place (in prayer) since the curtain was torn after Jesus’ death on the cross. Praise the LORD!

  13. In the New Testament Jesus Christ has become our Sabbath and our rest. The Sabbath was part of the Law and for the Jews. If you are saved you are under grace and Jesus Christ is your Sabbath because He fulfilled the requirements of the Law. Paul the Apostle also addressed those who hold to certain days and seasons and Sabbath rules. He said we have our liberty in Christ now that He has died on the cross and risen again.

Comment by Informed Researcher | August 2, 2008

  14. Still Healing and Informed Researcher,
Here is my understanding of the Sabbath. It represents #1. That God had done all the work. God’s work was perfect “good”, and man could add nothing to it. This is a type and shadow of the finished work of Christ on the cross.
#2. During the time of the Law, the Sabbath rest was a testimony to the Israelites, and to the heathen nations of the world, of God’s blessing on His children, in they they, unlike all the nations around them, could take one day a week off from work and prosper more than all the other nations who would work every day.
#3. A type and shadow of the seventh millenneium; 6000 years from Adam to the 2nd coming of Christ.
#4. For a Christian, it symbolizes putting complete trust in the finished work of Christ, and turning from the “ordinances of the Law” to gain acceptance by God. We now live by “the Law of the spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.”

Comment by Edie Chill | August 10, 2008

  15. Edie Chill

Then explain to me the then Hebrews 4:8-11…I know you will say it is spiritual but God’s rest is spiritual. But read it carefully he is talking about a literal DAY! Now what I do not believe in is debating about the subject and casting judgement on the people who do not keep saturday as God’s sabbath.

Even in Acts the Gentiles wanted Paul to come back to preach to them the next sabbath!

Jesus even said that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. He then said He is Lord of the Sabbath!

Comment by Antoine Taylor | August 14, 2008

  16. God established the seven day week at the very beginning of His creation on Earth. Gen. 2:3 tells us He blessed the seventh day and santified it. What God is telling humans is that they were made to work six days and rest one. It’s a natural law according to the way we were made. Why does the world keep a seven day week??? It came from God. Originally it was on Saturday…actually Friday sundown to sundown on Saturday. Look at the calendar and Saturday is still the seventh day.

Because of the fall and because of the failure of the Jewish nation to receive their Messiah, the Saturday sabbath was lost. It has been recovered by many including many Messianic Jews.

I would love to keep the sundown to sundown original Sabbath but we can’t find a fellowship that does that where we live. I believe it is still important to take one day and refrain from your work. I believe the law is holy just and good. The letter kills but the Spirit of the law has been written in our hearts. But while some keep Sunday and others keep Saturday, the spirit of the commandment is to rest one day a week from your work remembering you were created.

Adventists have made Ellen White into a Pope in spite of their statement that the Bible alone is their creed. Her writings are equal to the Bible in their authority among SDA’s.

    Comment by BB | August 29, 2008

  17. Col. 2:16
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]”

The sabbath was OT law, Jesus fulfilled the law. The early church began worshiping on Sunday, because it was the resurection day. My father is SDA, and some of the stuff he tells me (in trying his best to “win me over”) is pretty outrageous. He also doesn’t eat certain meats. See the scripture above. I’ve often wanted to quiz my dad on the apparent ignoring of/twisting of scripture done by the SDA, but my dad is a hard one to argue with.

  18. I just wanted to state that I did not read your whole article due to time constraints at work but I read the first few paragraphs and I can already see that your article is flawed. Ellen white was a child when the great dissapointment happened. She did not predict the world would end in 1844. That was the movement of William Miller. Also you cliam a lot of untrue things, all of which is not new to me but I have come across all of those issues you brought up and have done my own research and have found that ellen white is really a prophet and anyone who does a bit a research will find that all these claims are lies of the devil to hide the truth.

  19. My friend
I feel really sorry for people who seek to downlay Ellen White. As a Christian I have read many of her books and found them never to contradict the word of God.
Is there anything wrong with an inspired writer using the writings of other if they are good. Paul quoted a secular poet “Aratus” in the book of Acts.

My friend I bid you to look carefully at what you do.

Take counsil from the Pharisee Gamaliel:

    Act 5:34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
Act 5:35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
Act 5:36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to naught.
Act 5:37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
Act 5:38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:
Act 5:39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

If ellen Whites work is the work of men it will certainly come to naught. But if is not… I bid you to be careful my friend lest you fight against God.

Why don’t you study a bit better what Gamaliel said and who he was before deciding it is a biblical position!

The Bible counsels no such thing – the complete opposite!

I too have read Ellen White’s books. I also followed the Walter Rea controversy over her plagerism as well as the Ford controversy over her understanding of 1844 and the “Investigative Judgment” doctrine.

The SDA church has Adventists who promote “Spectrum” and “Adventist Today” and have openly shown where Ellen White was wrong.

The doctrine of the 2300 years and Investigative Judgment doctrine was supported by EGW’s visions. She was wrong. That means she was not a prophet. Prophetic maybe but not a prophet.

She was also wrong that the Sabbath is the seal of God and that only those keeping Saturday as the sabbath will be saved. To her resting on Sunday is to accept the mark of the beast and all who do so will be lost. Are all Christians who disagree with this lost???

    Comment by BB | February 4, 2009

  22. I find a lot of what you say about what Ellen White taken out of context–both historical and in her writings. Please reexamine your accusations without bias, and then I will give your position better thought–maybe there is truth there, but there is much less than you think.
