Christian prophecy for the church and for the nations from a servant of God called to speak God's word

Healing angels are in popular demand these days

I watched healing evangelist Richard Roberts (son of Oral Roberts) ’perform’ the other night – for the first time in what must be almost twenty years. I wrote something of my experiences on the pentecostal/charismatic healing circuit in this article here: http://endtimespropheticwords.wordpress.com/2008/04/22/my-experience-on-the-pentecostalcharismatic-healing-circuit/    Richard Roberts was not only the minister conducting the first ‘healing revivals’ I ever attended, but was my first ever introduction with pentecostalism/charismaticalism. Even though I was then young and naive, and spiritually illiterate, I realised enough to know after a few attendances at his rallies that there were no real miracles taking place through his ministry – apart from possibly the odd conversion or two.

I would love to say that Richard Roberts has changed. He has, but not in a good way – he has gotten even more outlandish. And I am not talking about the recent ORU financial scandals involving him and his wife, I am talking about his pretence at ministry. As I watched Richard Roberts perform, I was shocked how transparently fake he was - Richard Roberts has got worse, not better, and now claims two divine angelic assistants accompany him.

Admitedly, it’s a long time ago now, but I do not recall Richard Roberts ever giving out (or pretending to give out) such specific   prophetic words of knowledge twenty years ago, as he pretended to do the other night – though he did used to give out vague generic ones like ’someone with cancer will be healed’ and ‘at least 16 people with asthma’ (someone else noticed it was almost always ‘16′ people quoted for whatever commen ailment too). Then there was the pretending to be speaking to God bit as is he were suddently interrupted with sudden divine revelation – Yes God, I’ll do that  – which was so fake and insincere and obviously sham acting- the Lord rebuke him! I felt that he had adapted his ministry style – his sales pitch – to work in the way the public demanded and wanted to see now – which was more specific prophecy. It was literally attempting to keep up with the ministry Jones’s – the same reason for claiming the healing angels – but it was all pretence and charlatanism.  The charade was stage managed from start to finish and was done not to draw people to Jesus but rather to get people to draw out their checkbooks. But then it was 20 years ago too.

Roberts knelt on the floor kneeling over a person he was praying for, and not only was there a lot of nonsense as he pretended to ’pull’ out the problem by miming pulling it out while talking to the camera, but he said he would give the problem to the TWO healing angels that he says were behind him and accompany his ministry. They are right behind me, he said. Now putting aside any theological quibbles about this statement, this was an obvious lie. Richard Roberts though slick in many senses, is an obvious huckster and not a good liar. He looked straight at the camera and I knew he was making it up as surely he pretended to prophesy that night. It was not that he was decieved into really sincerely thinking there were angels – he made it up, just like many of ministers on the Christian circuit make things up about angels and the third heaven too.

Healing angels have gotten far more popular in these days. There has been a revival of interest thanks to the new prophets and apostles – notably Todd Bentley – all imitating false prophet and healing revivialist William Branham. It is an easy thing to impress gullible people with, and is popular with new agers too, and Richard Roberts has now thrown this claim into the equation to become more popular, seem more spiritual and contemporary, and to get more bucks rolling in. He obviously wants to go one better than everyone else and claim TWO angels. (I wonder if their names are Emma and Brent?)

Regardless, Richard Roberts is a liar and charlatan. Just like many others who claim angel encounters, that when listened to just don’t stack up. Many of Todd Bentley’s stories involving angels are so tall, they defy belief that people actually listen to him, let alone believe him. They are not just unscriptural and defy logic and reason, they are also ludicrous. Heard the one of him beamed up in a pillar of fire to heaven and his parts being boxed up like a scene from alien abduction for instance? I stress here, I believe  in angels, and I believe some people today do have genuine experiences with angels. BUT and here is the BUT, for every person that has had a genuine experience, there is a thousand  or more who are lying or are mistaken….or worse have met demons masquarding as angels of light.

  2. We like to think that it is a good thing for Angels to be popular once more. One must remember, however, that there are many kinds of angels, and those that fell, did not always pick themselves up again. When you feel uncomfortable with a representation of healing, miracles, and group excitement, retire to a quiet corner and seek your personal guardian angel. Popular excitement is not always what it makes itself out to be. Follow the gentle path. http://www.cathetel.com – Angel of the Garden.

  3. Healing the Body – thanks for your post, but unless you know the God of the angels, any angelic experiences you encounter mean nothing really. Do you know this God?

  4. My heart is broken today as I talk with fellow Christians who are caught up in this demonic activity in Lakeland. In reading about “Emma” and “Emma O” I have come to the conclusion that this is a fulfillment of the scripture that says, “And God will send them STRONG delusion”.
A local Assembly of God Church endorsed this “revival” today from the pulpit. I could not believe that this particular pastor could be so deceived!
People are going to get burnt in this “revival”. Emma O is not going to share the glory with any other god – I believe something very bad will eventually be exposed through this “ministry”. The ironic thing about Bob Jones being involved in this (and being Todd Bentley’s mentor and spiritual advisor) is the fact that one day Bob Jones will stand naked before the Lord.

  5. When me and my friend were discussing this Todd Bentley thing prior to his Watchman Radio Show I thought I heard my friend say to me “Pleased to meet you Hope you guessed my Name.” I asked him if that is what he said and he said no and I said but that is what I heard. The next day he heard the same thing while at work from three other people and asked them what they said and they said they did not say that. Then I knew God was telling us that Todd Bentley was bringing forth a Satanic Deception in Lakeland. This is part of the beginning of the Great Dillusion prior to the appearance to the anti-christ. Emma is a demonic fallen angel. The laughing and drunken anointing is a demonic anointing. When I did not know better back in 1995 I experienced it under Rodney Howard Browne Ministry. At the time I was preaching nuclear war coming to america and I thought man that is strange a laughing anointing to hold back the wrath of god on america. The anointing and drunkness and laughing is a real anointing but it is not the Holy Spirit no matter how good or anointed it feels. We are in the end times and If it were possible even the elect will be deceived.

  7. I never for a second believed any of the Bentley/Johnson/Jones nonsense. The best understanding I have found is on David Elle’s site (P. Elles is SOLID on scripture and I found zero fault in his recent rebuke of another).
At his site, unleavenedbread, he recounts a vision two people received, while at a Bentley meeting. They see a wall open and a Trojan horse roll-in. They understand that the demons are gaining entry, but are not going to make their move until the time is right, when big stakes can be had.

Sarah Palin follows this garbage through Rick Joyner. On that topic: Am I the only one who noticed Joyner’s logo is a “morningstar” and a vulture?

The silhouettes of eagles and vultures can easily be distinguished by the wing. An eagle has a smooth “shoulder”, whereas the vulture’s wing protrudes up significantly, as in the Joyner logo.

  8. If we need “Healing Angels” to help us bring Healing, do we need Salvation Angels to bring Salvation?
    - “Surely HE(Jesus) bore our sorrows and by HIS stripes we are healed.”

Jesus paid for healing with his spotless blood, the Holy Spirit is our Helper and it is through the Holy Spirit alone that Jesus is revealed, testified of and magnified through us. (Through one Spirit which gives the gifts, which include the gifts of healing – 1 Corinthians 12)

If we will believe angels now are doing the work of the healing, what will stop us from believing angels which show up claiming to bring salvation?

Healing is a product of the Cross, as is Salvation.

    1 Corinthians 12 says –

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.
7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy

In case people forget, angels are spirits. Healing comes through ONE SPIRIT ALONE . The Holy Spirit.

Theatrics. No wonder the world looks in and laughs. It's like a side show.

This drama would not, were I an unbeliever, lead me to God but rather repulse me and give me cause to laugh at the oddities.
