Christian prophecy for the church and for the nations from a servant of God called to speak God's word

Todd Bentley’s impartation touches UK in the The Dudley Outpouring

Revival has supposedly hit the UK. It is now called the ‘Dudley Outpouring’ at errr… Dudley in the West Midlands.  Meetings at Trevor Baker’s Revival Fires church meeting at the ARC Apostolic Resource Centre are extended into third week, and Jerame Nelson (Todd Bentley’s right hand associate) has been there to help spread the flame.  Some of Revival Fires church’s members went out to Lakeland to get an impartation from the hands of Todd Bentley, so it is hardly surprising that now they are back in England, they are now claiming to be passing ‘it’ onto all the hungry Christians who choose to make the trip to Dudley.

Trevor Baker’s church is very much linked with the new apostolic and prophetic movement. They hold Glory Schools, teaching soaking, angel seeking, and third heaven encounters. They have regular Prophetic Seer conferences and Joel’s Army Conferences – and talk about running with the Joel’s Army visions and other New Apostolic Reformation visions.  One wonders:  do these guys really  know what they are promoting and what they are really  running with? http://endtimespropheticwords.wordpress.com/2008/05/11/prophey-bob-jones-role-in-toronto-blessing-brownsville-lakeland-what-comes-next-civil-war-in-the-church/   Would Trevor Baker be looking so pleased with himself if he knew the true spirit behind these spiritual manifestations and this revival? I think not.

Most people caught up in this move are very sincere. But nobody said sincerity meant being automatically protected from spiritual deception. Indeed, aren’t most Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Roman Catholics, spiritualists and cult members very sincere too? And so was ‘prophet’ John Lacy http://endtimespropheticwords.wordpress.com/2008/05/03/a-hungry-man-running-after-god-on-amazing-spiritual-experiences/ who had amazing spiritual experiences, comparable with today’s, just before the First Great Awakening and the revival ministries of John Wesley, George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards. Lacy’s mistake was not lack of passion, not lack of reading the Bible, not lack of fellowship or prayer or soaking, not lack of spiritual experiences. No, rather he lacked spiritual discernment and failed to test the spirits, getting into the same old trap of, how could something look so good and lead Him to so much passion and religious activity and be in Jesus name but at the same time not be of God? It was not possible, he thought. Montanus’s followers thought the same thing, yet the early church sought to exorcise them from demons masking themselves as angels of light – and Montanus’s spiritual manifestations while going into prophetic trances (and the focus on them) are eerily similar to today’s new prophets!

Assumption is a very dangerous thing. If wolves hide in sheeps clothing as the Bible declares they do, how do you see if the sheep is really a wolf or not underneath? Do you not look under the surface and not just naively accept things at face value? Why would the apostle John urge us to test the spirits if it was as easy and obvious as modern Christians claim to discern between good and bad, and ‘God would not let us be decieved’? He won’t  let us be decieved if we test the spirits as He commands, but if we don’t test the spirits we are potentially ’fair game’ and vulnerable.  God’s protection from deception is through obedience to his word in this sense, coming from knowing the word, and the gifts of wisdom and discernment and distinguishing of spirits.

Trevor Baker at brief glance on a video I watched seems to be a sincere enough chap - by that, I do not think he is a charlatan unlike some I could mention in this ‘revival’. But he lacks spiritual discernment. Apart from being partnered with Creflo Dollar ministries (bling bling – prosperity gospel), Baker hosts lots of modern day false prophets of the Latter Rain. I have already mentioned many of my concerns about Todd Bentley, Jill Austin, Patricia King, Bobby Conner, Bob Jones and the other new prophets and apostles on this site. But for those new to the site, here are some links to the articles:

I urge UK Christians to stay away from Trevor Baker’s church and the Dudley Outpouring as what they are imparting in this so-called outpouring is poison. It is an antichrist move to promote the new apostles and prophets and ‘another Jesus’. (The Latter Rain one)  There are weird gnostic teachings of demons, and strange fire and anointings that are NOT from God -  this fact can be clearly seen by getting out the Bible and studying it, and sincerely asking God with an open mind for wisdom and discernment.

Looked at the church’s websites there is a lot to be concerned about about Trevor Baker’s church – apart from its visitors – both in the flesh and from  the spirtual realm. Trevor Baker is claiming meetings in ‘the olive grove’  with Smith Wigglesworth, Katherine Kuhlman and even Derek Prince during open visions. Derek Prince, of course would be speaking out against what is promoted in this move, just like he did when alive here http://endtimespropheticwords.wordpress.com/2008/04/25/navigating-through-the-minefield-of-signs-and-wonders/ and here  http://endtimespropheticwords.wordpress.com/2007/08/21/signs-wonders-bizarre-spiritual-manifestations/ and so it is a lying spirit that pretends to be Derek Prince promoting their new anointing. Katherine Kuhlman, ecumenical Kuhlman, don’t get me started on her, why she was false.

Here are some more choice quotes, from their own website, by ‘prophet’ Trevor Baker who claims to be a seer; -

Jesus died for the anointing, for the mantle of anointing to pass from Himself onto His church.

Really?! Where on earth does it say this in the Bible? I thought Jesus died for the sin of the world, to reconcile men to God – or is ’sin’ too old fashioned a word for modern day seers?

As you forcibly press into God’s presence through prayer and fasting, allowing God to move, a flow begins to take place and He begins to give revelation. There is no other way. You have to press into relationships and the Word of God. We press in forcibly because “the kingdom…suffers violence, and the violent take it by force” (Matthew 11:12 NKJV).

Did Jesus not promise that He and the Father would make their home inside those that love Him? And he also promised ‘Lo, I am with you always… even to the end of the age’.  Does the apostle Paul also not say ‘in Him, we live and breathe and have our being’?   The Bible says we have been ‘brought near’ and are ‘in Christ’ and have been made sons of God because of the blood of Christ and the cross, and the indwelling Spirit of adoption – not because we press in forcibly, not because of our works, prayer or fasting. We can approach the throne of God with boldness at any time (if our conscience does not condemn us). To say you have to forcibly press into a relationship and strive in this sense denies the cross and the blood of Jesus!

Also to claim there is no other way to get revelation, denies the Sovereignty of God. Revelation (or should rather I say, true divine revelation)  is not by the will of the prophets, nor is indeed the call to be a prophet - God calls and the prophet pricks up his ears and listens and speaks it out – if he is obedient, that is. Samuel did not spend lots of time ‘pressing in’ and ’soaking up God’, or chasing prophetic experiences when God started speaking to him.  The old priest then taught Samuel how to listen and it was not in the way the new prophets teach, rather it was: ‘Speak LORD, for your servant  is listening.’  The Lord speaks and His servant listens, remembering always who is in control, and Who ordains the prophet and Who ordains the nature and the type and the amount of the words spoken to him. And when it happens. The prophet never was the one in control in this sense, he was a servant, unlike the new prophets who think they can order and control the Spirit around as kings. Although revelation is released (by that spoken out) by the will of the prophet and is subject to their control in that sense – and we prophesy by faith – we can no more control a vision than we can control the wind. Although we can seek God, we cannot force God to speak. If he is silent on a matter, then we cannot twist his arm. He is boss. We are not. Something the new prophets and apostles often seem to forget. Furthermore not all are prophets – however much some may seek, they may not prophesy on demand.

Of course the new gnostics teach a tangible presense or ‘glory’ to soak in, so they press in by experiences to get ‘more’ of God by soaking Him in but this is unscriptural as well as heretical. They claim guided visualisations by men lead to true prophetic encounters when it is imagination or worse and not divine encounters ordained and inspired by God. They claim anyone can go up to the third heaven daily as a matter of their will, and can seek the counsel of angels.  Even when these angels preach another gospel, none of these prophets agree with the scripture let them be accursed!  They are too much in love with their experiences and visions for their own self absorbed sakes. They never preach discernment. They never preach testing the spirits. Why? Because deep down they know their true source will be revealed?

The Matthew scripture that Trevor Baker quotes has also been corrupted. I argue this because of the Greek words used in the passage, and its always negative connections. I suggest that rather than talking about militant Christians siezing hold of the Kingdom of God, it is rather saying that that Saints will be persecuted by violent men. This also suits the context of the surrounding passage (always important), flows with it, and makes sense, something the other interpretation does not.

Then we have this nonsense below about the seer anointing taken from Baker’s website. There is plenty more where this came from, sadly.

The first Seer we find in scripture is God Himself. Now that is good news! God said “Let there be light …. and He saw that it was good” (Gen 1:3-4). Then He communicates that characteristic to Adam. He brings all the animals to Adam to see what He will call them, and whatever he called them that is what they became known as forever. The word roeh is used there. Why did God bring all the animals to Adam? Because as the animals came to Adam he started to move in that Seer anointing and then he began to speak out declarations and words of decree. What Adam spoke out has stood the test of all time; this is how powerful this anointing is.

What about the building of the tower of Babel? Again operating in the Seer anointing, God says “Let us go down and see what they are doing”. “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth”. Why? Because He is a Seer. …..

Spiritual deception, flee from it, don’t run to   it. Stay away from Dudley.

  1. Wow, thankyou for reminding me that the Accuser aka Satan lives on Earth. The last time I checked the Bible I understood it to read that there is only one JUDGE. God Bless you sincerely, as I believe your intention is in Good Faith. It appears that you have spent considerable time hunting the prophets. As you believe that these prophets are not true prophets of God, I was curious as to where you received your divince accreditation or what job credentials earned you the right to spew forth condemnation. May God truly bless you.

  2. Wow, by your comments I sincerely suggest the ‘last time you checked’ the Bible was maybe only at a glance.
It is FILLED with how we are to test the spirits, discern, warn, and search the scriptures daily, like the Bereans to see if these things be so.
Do a study of ALL (there are MANY) the times it speaks of false teachers and false prophets, what they will do and what they will say.
Then study ALL (again, there are MANY) studies on ‘doctrines of demons, going the way of Balaam, and see what these things mean. Try google.
That is only a tiny place to start, then maybe you will walk with discernment, wisdom, insight and be able to rightly divide the Word of God, and the eyes of your heart may be opened to see error and such things as lying signs and wonders, and know who it is who will perform them.
Then you may be able to speak as endtimes speaks, saving many from deception.
    Happy reading.

  3. How have you tested that this out pouring of the Holy Spirit is not from God?
Do you really expect people to believe that all these miracles that have taken place are from the devil. This was the same argument the pharisees used when they didnt like the miracles that Jesus did. They accused Him of being demon possessed. In matthew ch. 12 where this is taken place, Jesus addresses the pharissees and tells them very plainly that they can blaspheme against the son of man, but if they blaspheme against the Holy spirit that is an unforgivable sin.
In 1 John ch.4 It talks about testing the spirits, to see where they come from.
It clearly states that every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.
This revival is centered on the sovereignty of Jesus Christ, the worship is centered on Jesus Christ, the miracles and healing are in the name of Jesus Christ. Yes there have been angelic visitations and visions, the bible is full of
accounts of these things happening. I just dont understand what you base your negative comments on, everything that is happening has happened before. The fruit of whats going on is that people are being set free from sin, darkness, sickness, oppression, addictions and more . Surely that is a glorious thing, and most importantly Jesus is being exalted and many are getting saved. Praise GOD!
What saddens me is that like in the bible days the pharissees and experts in the law, just didnt recognise that this Jesus was the son of God who came to set men free. They were so taken up with the written law, that their hearts had become hard and not sensitive to the Holy spirit, and when they saw all the miracles they attributed it all to the devil.
What kind of relationship do you have with God, do you know his love , and his mercy, do you know his supernatural power.
Would you really recognise Him if he came to you?
I know that this revival is a sovereign work of God , just look at the fruit, as Jesus said to. How this can make you so skeptical and critical can only reveal what is in your own heart.
May you humble yourself before God and come into a personal relationship with him. Matthew ch5. says Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
I pray that you will soften your heart before God and come to know him personally and then you will recognise when he is moving. God Bless!

  4. I was awatching Todd Bentley on God TV last week and heard him say: “the anointing – I used to feel in my hand; now I feel it in my spine – it’s really weird”.

This rang a bell in my memory so I checked with Google and found that the KUNDALINI (demonic) spirit is associated with being located in the spine – it is described by its devotees as a snake or serpent. This is dangerous folks!.

I have done some preliminary research on the Lakeland Revival and Todd Bentley and posted some thoughts on my website:

  5. Yes Brian,

Here is some more enlightening info for those who love the truth, and walk in it like Jesus and the disciples did.

  6. Although some would not even consider to keep themselves unspotted from the world, afterall they would say, that is being religious, and just taking the Words of Jesus just too literally, or perhaps it was a slip of the pen, and
an error of the scribes, or maybe those words have a different meaning today.
He knew we would not have to live to any standard in todays modern world, as we have come a long way baby, these days we need to live and act like the world otherwise they will never ACCEPT any OTHER Jesus.

  8. Just one important question – have any of you actually been to Dudley????

Comment by Mark Flint | May 18, 2008

  9. Mark

Here’s an important point for you. I have never been to Provo or Salt Lake City Utah, but I know that what goes on there in Mormon churches is not of God. I have never been to Mecca, but I know what goes on there is false. I have never been to Vatican City but I know what goes on there is false. Why? Because the Bible can be used to test these people’s and organisations experiences and words and find them false – and so here in this case.

For the record, I have had several people email me privately who know Trevor Baker and the church very well in question and have told me even worse things not posted on here. Others have already posted around on the site under various comments who have been there specifically.

I have personally been to many meetings with leading names in the prophetic and apostolic movement, and was involved in YWAM for over 6 years which is immersed in it, but even if I had not, so what? – the Bible can be used to weigh anyone’s words up without feeling their apostasy too. Or do I need to ‘feel’ something and ‘experience’ it before being able to criticise it and judge it as false? Do you not think God can talk to someone about false prophets and teachers who lives a distance away from it???!!!!!!!!! Have you been embracing a strange gnosticism that must feel before thinking?

  10. Hi guys.

so, here is an interesting question for you.

You are refering to trevor baker as a false prophet / false teacher etc. Whilst I accept that this is a possibility, I would like to share my personal experience of that particular revival. I have been there twice, but the one event I refer to is the meeting this saturday. 24th May 2008.

This event was held at a local building called “the venue”.

This building is owned by a local sikh group, and used by many many people for different things, from wedding banquets, to conferences, to music gigs. (I only include this detail for completeness).

We arrived at 7:15 (the meeting starts at 7:30). We took our seats, and waited for the meeting to start. When it did start, Ryan Baker-Barnes led worship. Not only his own work, but other songs (some by the worship leader over in lakeland, whose name escapes me at the moment).

After approximately 1 and a half hours, trevor came up to speak. He began to operate in the word of knowledge, calling out illnesses by name. But then, in a complete change of tack for this style of meeting, he said that he felt that there was a spirit of compassion presence. explaining that compassion to be the same sort of compassion jesus showed when the bible says “he had compassion on them, and healed them all”.

He said that every sickness could be healed tonight.

He asked for people to stand up to acknowledge whether the power of the holy spirit was upon them. I stood up, as did a few others. (this was not unusual, as he meant felt the power of the spirit working in them, not just present.)

He called me forward with one other person.

He asked me to explain to the congregation what was happening, and all I could say was “God is all over me”.

He asked me whether I had any physical need. I did. A condition called keratakonis (sp?). a degenerative eye condition that causes the eye to warp out of shape to be more rugby-ball shaped than soccer-ball shaped.

As i declared that condition, he said the compassion was on it. I saw approx. a 30% improvement.

He came back to me, and prayed again. He did the wierd way of praying he has of kneeing people in the chest (i don’t have a problem with it as such, it’s just different wierd, not strange wierd. smith wigglesworth was renowned for it.)

I hit the deck, and stayed there for a few minutes unable to move. Then, after i got up, I felt the need to try and read without my glasses, and discovered I could.

Since that meeting, my eyesight has remained able to read without my glasses, but not permanently removing my glasses.

if genuine revival is not happening, then how do you explain the genuine healings?

    not accusation, just a question.

    Yours in him,

    Christopher Miller

  11. The revival in Dudley is fantastic, been there twice. Hope you can get there soon. Lets not get critical with this new move of God. It’s great and its changing my life.

    Comment by Jon | June 12, 2008

  12. Christopher Miller:

hope you read this … has your glasses prescription changed?

If so, in what way? Were you long sighted or short-sighted to begin with?

Since you still need your glasses, (with the same prescription?) I don’t understand how you can claim that your eyesight has improved substantially.

I wear glasses and can read without them … like this computer screen I am typing on. However, I am still short sighted and would get crushing headaches if I spent any reasonable time without them on trying to read things.

Last Question. Have you been back for more anointing? Have they set up an ATM in the back of the meeting hall yet?

    Shalom.

  13. Thank you so much for this article. I our church connected with Todd Bentley and his associated ministries and started soaking about 4 years ago. We even invited Todd to come over for a conference. Most of us saw the alarm lights from the begining but were a bit afraid to judge the “annointed one”. besides our pastor asked us to trust him so we did. I can now see fruits over 4 years that the church has shrunk in numbers (from almost 150 members to about 40 now)and in quality. the emphasis has been on the annointing and we rarely get a balanced word from the pulpit. From all these fruits only I can say the Todds direction is not the one I would consciously want to follow. I wish I saw this article 4 years ago, we have lost so much time running with the winds trying to catch the annointing. Now we are left starving.

  14. This is in reply to the post of number 9 by ‘endtimespropheticwords’ and I can honestly not take anything you say with any integrity if you feel that the Vatican and Catholic Church is false. If you look to the history of the church you will find that every single church, and movement of Jesus Christ was formed and ultimatley based on the same point in history both the Eastern and the Western Church. And that was the Nicene Creed and then later on other such meetings which formed the understanding that we have to day of who Jesus is!

These creed’s formed the Roman Catholic and the Eastern orthodox Church and ultimately a majority of the denominations within the catholic(small c catholic means universal) family of Jesus Christ our Lord, our savior and our redeemer.

I leave you with the idea of the Eastern Orthodox church’s understanding of the un knowable God, and that we can test, which is right, but we must never judge as that is for Jesus to do (Romans 14 vs 12 – 13)

and just so you do not Mis judge my opinion i am not condoning the Morman Church as followers of Christ. Nor am I saying that Islam is truth as the only truth in this world is Jesus Christ!

May the peace and Grace of God Bless and correct and teach us all daily.
