Christian prophecy for the church and for the nations from a servant of God called to speak God’s word

Todd Bentley’s angel electrocutes him, makes him scream, and renders him dumb

Brief Transciption of video from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwhtQ8xaOKQ  My comments are in brackets underneath in italics.

Note that even though many of Todd’s stories are made up tall tales that evidently never happened in reality, I will treat this as if he believes it really happened for the sake of the discussion.

Todd Bentley speaking at Lakeland: [One night...] I rolled over in my bed, and as soon as I went to go to sleep, a white lightning bolt came into my hotel room and as quickly as I could scream the name of Jesus …

[End times note - Todd has allegedly had dozens of visitations from angels and some of the 'saints' and even "Jesus" one-on-one over the years in his hotel rooms. He is also claimed to visit heavenly realms on numerous occasions at will. Surely Todd is used to these visits by now and recognises them for that they are? Why on earth would he be so frightened and disturbed by a visitation, that he would scream out and ask Jesus for protection?

Furthermore, although people like 'prophet' Bob Jones (see here)  and Don Pirozok (see here) claim that angels or divine empowerments manifest as lightning bolts that come into their room, and then subsequently lightning manifests through their hands or their hands change colour and go all tingly when doing miracles, there is no Biblical accounts of angels manifesting themselves in this way, or of gifts of healing or anything else being imparted this way via the laying on of hands. (See also Todd's talking about the angels as light moving around the room here.)

'White light' is a common term in some forms of occultism like witchcraft and spiritualism - practioners send each other 'white light' as protection or otherwise call on this 'white light' when performing rituals.]

…. an angel steps out of the white lightning bolt and stuck his hand in my belly … and an electrical current, I was electrocuted. I felt electricity go all the way through my body.

[End times note: Being 'electrocuted' and 'feeling electricity going all the way through his body' is not necessarily the same thing. It sounds like Todd is exagerating in order to try to impress his gullible audience. Anyway, regardless, where do we see this sort of electricity being imparted to empower a servant of God, let alone from the hands of an angel stepping out of a lightning bolt and sticking his hand in our belly?

When the promised Holy Spirit empowerment came at Pentecost with the true gifts of the Spirit, there was no talk of electricity or of bodies vibrating, or of people being struck dumb and being very frightened. Rather their previously frightened mouths were opened to witness boldly and prophetically and the church rejoiced greatly. The visible fruit was not experience for experience's sake, sensationalism or sensuality in the fleshly, or of vibrations or lightning bolts, but rather a great adding to their numbers that very day and the days following, and true undeniable miracles.

Joel's wonderful prophecy that was declared by the apostle Peter to be fulfilled in the church's hearing on that day, says that God will pour out his Spirit... so all walks of life, all sexes and all ages will prophesy, dream dreams etc...'The prophet Joel does not say that God will send his angels who will stick their hands in our bellies so we vibrate and subsequently manifest lightning bolts when praying for others.

Jesus, the most anointed man ever, never vibrated, writhed, cackled with 'holy laughter', roared or manifested lightning bolts during his earthly ministry. How often, too, do you hear Jesus talking about his angels with the kind of focus and in the kind of contexts Todd Bentley does? Or the apostle Paul or any of the others? Sure, angels are mentioned, but it is a very different focus - and the apostle's angels did not directly and brazenly contradict scripture of take the focus off Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit as Todd's do.

I want to stress that I believe in angels and I also believe in the miraculous. I also believe that angels still minister to the church today. BUT we must understand angels' rightful places and their true roles, and not elevate them or put them in the role of the Holy Spirit as Todd does (deliberately, I feel), or focus on them in a new type of Colossians Heresy. (See here for a post about the Colossians Heresy).

Of course, added to this, we must discern between God's faithful angels and Satan manifesting as an angel/s of light - something the new prophetic-apostolic movement consistently refuse to do, or allow their followers to do. Why so? Because I believe the 'powers that be' know that if the 'faithful' tested and discerned they would discover they had been had for years.

Todd is bypassing and also undermining the Holy Spirit and Jesus by implying somehow that angels' impartations are better and more spiritual than the Holy Spirit's.]

My body screamed ….

[End times note, this is a very odd thing to say rather than 'I screamed'.  If this is a true account, then screaming outwith of one's emotions or will is the work of demonic forces.  Also did anyone from the hotel come to the room to see what was wrong/help him?]

and started vibrating and I was caught up – I mean blinding white light. I couldn’t see anything but light.

[End times note, and yet still this angel has made Todd so fearful he wants to scream, has stuck his hand in Todd's belly and electrocuted him so much he is vibrating, yet rudely has still not introduced himself? Nor has he spoken to him 'peace, be not afraid?' or something like this to bring some peace, as well as said who is a messenger of? That really sounds like one of God's angels - not!  Angels are also messengers, yet there is no message just touch and sensualism in Todd's experience?]

I couldn’t scream,

[End times note, but Todd just says that he did scream]

I couldn’t say the name of Jesus,

[End times note, that speaks volumes. For what power wants us to believe it can render a man mute and unable to say the name of Jesus except the evil one?  Note that Todd is 'subtley' undermining the uniqueness and power in the name of Jesus. The only time Jesus is mentioned in this speech is when Todd could not say His name - his angel is seemingly more powerful than the Lord' Jesus's name?]

and I felt the power of God like electricty go all the way through my body.

[End times note, yet still this angel did not introduce himself? And Todd despite being petrified recieved this power regardless of testing the source because he was rendered numb and dumb and seemingly without a will or ability to stop it even if he had wanted to? How does he even know it was the power of God? Because he manifested?  Does this mean that all angels and all manifestations are from God in Todd's mind? Does he think himself to be immune to deception? (This is a rhetorical question as actually Todd does declare himself immune, as he has previously stated] or is it more like Todd’s “God” is not the same God as the Bible’s?

For one week everywhere that I went I literally vibrated for a week straight – literally.

[End times note, this is a gross exageration, and note the typical liar's habit of over-stating or supporting a false testimony by saying 'honest', 'this really happened' or 'literally' several times]

And when I would pray for people they would say ‘when you laid hands on me I saw a flash of white light. When you lifted your hand up to pray for the sick we saw white light come from your hand.’

[End times note, this is Todd elevating himself up, with the focus on himself as someone far more special and anointed somehow that someone who 'just' got their gifts from the outpouring of the Holy Spirit]

In just a few minute we’re going to release the healing anointing,

[End times note, so much for God's will and God's timing.]

we’re going to release the healing angels,

[End times note, there's the focus on angels again, and Todd has the audacity to claim to media this is not about angels and he hardly ever mentions them?!]

and we’re going to prophesy a coming healing revival …

[End times note, first of all, I thought that Todd said that there was already a healing revival taking place at Lakeland and spreading globally. It is supposed to be here already.

Next, and perhaps most impotantly, how can any true prophet declare what he, or anyone else is going to prophesy before God speaks to him and gives him the word?! This arrogant statement of Todd's speaks volumes about his whole view of prophecy and the role of the prophet. If they prophesy their own deceptive words, then of course they know what will be said within their own schedule. But if they speak for God they have no idea what God will speak, or indeed even when he will speak it. They can only wait upon the Lord.]

and people are going to recieve a transferable tangible healing anointing -

[End times note, yet again the focus is on 'tangibility = feeling it' - experiences and emotions over the word of God. If it feels good run with it and pass it on - so what if it contradicts scripture, so what if it does not come from God. Who cares, really.]

Those were the thoughts that came to mind while reading. Thanks for what you do!

  3. FYI: Per this link, looks like Todd Bentley is to appear in WWE Smackdown. I would like to know how his ministry is going to explain it to the Christians who are not for Todd Bentley.

Also, this is a great way for the enemy to deceive millions of people since wrestling is still a popular sport and people will listen to his false teachings.

    If only that were true.

  6. in india there is some guy preaching he was born 2000 years ago and is Jesus. he gives out “prosperity flowers” for a hefty price and once used “magic” to produce watches on the stage and in the audience. people were amazed but then when all the watches were from the same company they realized it was a scam to promote the watch company.

  7. Sweetblue - that was a tongue-in-cheek joke post because of Todd’s antics on stage and also love for wrestling.

  8. Boy you guys sure have a knack to know when someone is lying. Seems like everything Bently says is a lie to you. Do you believe when he says Jesus is the son of God and thats where his power comes from, not the angel???? Speak on that one.

  9. Please note that the original site mentioning Todd Bentley and his involvement with WWE Friday Night SmackDown is false and was meant only as a satire. If you go to “The Sacred Sandwich” (which is the original site for this article) and read their disclaimer, it will state this. So please do not pass this information along as fact. Although, it must be noted, that with the way things are going with this particular ministry, activities such as this would not be surprising.

    Thank you very much.

  10. I can not believe you say you are Christian’s. No where but no where do I read any thing like what you are saying about this man and others in the Word of God. Whose character are you exhibiting? It sure isn’t the Jesus I know nor do I want to know the one you are representing. God is in the restoration business not the tear down and kick and make fun of business. Who can believe such venom coming from you and I hope and pray you will stop before Jesus returns and you repent of your sin. We do not have time to be focusing on such falseness. Are you helping people come to Christ or are you helping them be a false witness? We need to be concentrating on Christ and leave Todd Bentley and others to the Lord. Or do you not think God can take care of him?

  11. Waroot,

How about Jesus’ words: “Brood of Vipers” “Hypocrites” “Whitewashed Tombs” “thieves” etc.?

    Comment by Lee | July 8, 2008

  12. Thanks for the heads up! I had a scripture recently that is from rev 14v18 till end, that mentions God’s winepress of wrath,I think it means that he is gonna judge these people at some point! I also had a picture of a silver steam ( had it in a form of an art collage) there was Blue either side very royal blue actually like the blue worn by the priests in the OT, then I saw the word truth accross it, That river is a flood gate of god’s prophectic truth which is being poured out and by his ORDIANED people in other words people he chooses to reveal his truth, esp to counteract people like Todd Bently!

It is also OUR responsibility to REBUKE a brother in christ if he is in error very biblical waroot!
