Christian prophecy for the church and for the nations from a servant of God called to speak God's word

The Strong Delusion of Christian Zionism & John Hagee

A very good post from Soul Refuge from here -

“I turned on the television the other night and realized that there was a convention being televised for Christians United For Israel (CUFI).  The CUFI is an organization which was founded by Pastor and author John Hagee which encourages Christians to stand with the modern state of Israel. The person speaking was a Jewish man by the name of David Brog (Executive Director of CUFI).  I listened as he sang the praises of former US President Harry Truman, because President Truman recognized Israel as a state.  President Truman was the president that authorized the use of atomic bombs over in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Mr Brog then sang similar praises about John Hagee, who received a standing ovation as he was introduced.

I listened as Mr Brog spoke in a room filled with people claiming to be Christians.  He told them that their Christian theology demands that they stand with Israel.  I knew where he was coming from and I am fully aware of what is being taught in many evangelical churches today.  I used to believe certain dispensational teachings, such as the land belonging to Israel, because that’s what was being taught in most churches.  However my further study of the scriptures revealed otherwise.  I never believed for a moment that a person Jewish or Gentile could be saved apart from faith in Jesus Christ.  I had no idea that many of the Bible teachers taught that the Jewish people were still God’s chosen people and that they are still in covenant with him, even though they do not believe that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah).

In recent years , I have been hearing  Bible teachers talk about the church of Jesus Christ as being a mere parenthesis in God’s plan and that the Jewish people are under a different covenant.  I came across an article by the Christian Research Institute regarding Pastor John Hagee, which was Statement DH005. Here are a few excerpts from that statement:

“Trying to convert Jews is a waste of time he (Hagee) said.

Everyone else whether Buddhist or Baha’i needs to believe in Jesus, he says. But not Jews, Jews already have a covenant with God that has never been replaced with Christianity he says.

The Jewish people have a relationship with God through the law of God as given through Moses, Hagee said. I believe that every Gentile person can only come to God through the cross of Christ. I believe that every Jewish person who lives in light of the Torah, which is the word of God, has a relationship with God and will come to redemption.

The Law of Moses is sufficient enough to bring a person into the knowledge of God until God gives him a greater revelation. And God has not said Hagee.”

[Statement DH005 , Christian Research Institute, Charlotte, NC]

SALVATION FOR THE JEW ACCORDING TO JESUS CHRIST

It is absolutely amazing to me that John Hagee could make such statements as those above considering the overwhelming proof in God’s Word that contradict what he said.  The greatest revelation that God has given to the Jewish people and the rest of the world is found in Jesus Christ. In other words Jesus Christ is God’s last word to mankind, and that most certainly includes the Jewish people. Listen to what Jesus Christ said to the Jewish people of his time:

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. (John 5:39-40)

To totally understand the impact of the words above, we must not forget that the one who is speaking is Jesus Christ.  Many do not realize that the word CHRIST actually means MESSIAH. So it is Jesus the Messiah who is doing the talking.  Jesus is the one who was sent from the Father above to preach the Kingdom of God, and ultimately become the BLOOD ATONEMENT for the sin of mankind.

Jesus the Messiah encouraged the Jewish people to search the scriptures (their very own Torah) because they thought they had eternal life. Jesus then made it clear to them that their own Torah testified about him, but they still would not come to him, that they might have life.  Please do not miss this folks, because Jesus was telling the Jewish people that the very life and salvation which they desired, could only be found in him.  Jesus went on to say this to them:

Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? (John 5:45-47)

Jesus was pushing home the same point once again, that the scriptures (the Torah, the books of Moses) had enough in them to show that he (Jesus) was the prophesied Messiah. That is why Jesus told them, that if they believed Moses then they would have naturally believed him.  In the New Testament book of Acts there is a portion of scripture that will help us understand this better:

For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities. (Acts 3:22-26)

The words above were spoken by the apostle Peter to the people of Israel after the miraculous healing of a lame man at the temple gate. Peter told the people of Israel that the man was healed by the power of Jesus Christ. Peter then told them that this same Jesus was “the Prophet” whom Moses spoke and wrote about in (Deuteronomy 18:15-18), and that those who would not “hear that Prophet” (Jesus the Christ) would be destroyed!  Peter then went on to say that all of the prophets (in the Old Covenant scriptures) foretold of the days which were taking place right then and there. Peter then went all the way back to Abraham to show the people that all the people of the earth (that includes absolutely everybody) would be blessed through Abraham’s seed (offspring)  and that seed (offspring)  is Jesus Christ.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of ONE, And to thy SEED, which is CHRIST. (Galatians 3:16)

In plain and simple language, the Jewish apostle Paul  told the people that Jesus Christ was, and is, the promised seed (offspring) by whom ALL of the nations of the world would be blessed. Paul told them the very same thing that Peter told the people of Israel after that awesome miracle.  The whole of the Old Covenant scriptures pointed to the time when Jesus the Christ (Messiah) arrived on the scene.  The message that Peter gave regarding that “Prophet” is right in line with the salvation or damnation message that Jesus gave after he rose from the dead. (Mark 16:15-20)  The words of Jesus Christ below, become absolutely meaningless if a Jewish person could be saved without faith in Jesus Christ, by living in light of the Torah.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

Jesus declared that NO MAN would be able to come to the Father unless thay came through him, because the Father is the one who sent him.  That means that there will not be any person Jewish or Gentile (the rest of the world) who would be able to go to the Father (in heaven) unless they come though the Son whom he sent. Peter spoke along those very same lines when he spoke to the people of Israel:

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:10-12)

Could the scriptures be any clearer than this? The people of Israel are being addressed here by the apostle Peter and he told them that there was no other name by which they might be saved outside the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Read it again. Peter was speaking to the children of Israel there and the message that he gave them back then has not changed one drop since that time!

The passage below was written by the Jewish apostle Paul:

But God forbid that I should glory, save (except) in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. For neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. (Galatians 6:14-16)

Paul made it clear in that passage of scripture that he gloried only in the cross of Jesus Christ, and then he linked those who would walk according to that same rule to the “Israel of God.”  Paul also wrote the following:

Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: (Romans 9:6)

Paul was obviously putting a difference between the people of ethnic Israel and those of the “Israel of God” who recognized Jesus as the Messiah!

David Brog stated, at the CUFI convention the other night, that Christian theology demands that Christians stand with Israel. I would like to tell Mr. Brog that my theology demands that I stand for the truth, and that I preach the gospel to both Jew and Gentile.  Any Gospel preacher who is worth their salt would tell him the same thing.  Jesus declared the truth plainly and with boldness and to water down the message of the gospel is a fatal mistake:

And he (Jesus) said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. (John 8:23-24)

The Lord Jesus Christ told the Jewish people of his day that he came from above (heaven), and that the consequences of not believing that he was the one who was sent from the Father (the Messiah), would be to die in their sins.  The plain and simple truth is that every person who sat at that convention, whether Jew or Gentile, who rejects Jesus Christ as their Savior, will die in their sins and end up in hell. To preach anything other than that is to preach a bogus gospel. If ever there was a people who are responsible before the Lord it is the Jewish people. To declare that God has not given them the necessary revelation is nothing less than mind boggling. The Jewish apostle Paul consented to the murder of Christians before he was saved (Acts 8:3, 22:4, 26:9-11).  He then made a complete about face and preached that Jesus was the Christ (Messiah).  He wrote the following words:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)

Paul, the Jewish apostle of Jesus Christ, tells us that the gospel was to go the Jew first. In fact Paul identified those who are the children of Abraham:

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. (Galatians 3:7)

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:28-29)

That very same Jewish apostle Paul told us that there is absolutely no difference between the Jew and the Greek (Gentile).  No difference! The only ones who can be called the children of Abraham are those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ. John Hagee spoke about the Jewish people living in light of the Torah, but the Torah contains the Ten Commandments which stops and silences any person from justifying themself before a righteous God! (Romans 3:19-20)  In fact the Torah contains everything about the sacrificial system which is gone forever. The Bible declares that there is NO atonement for the soul without the blood.

THE NEW COVENANT REPLACED THE OLD COVENANT

Right before the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross, he cried out “It Is Finished” (John 19:30) which means that everything had been fulfilled at that moment, and his death was the perfect and final sacrifice for sin. It was at that very moment that the veil in the Jewish Temple was torn in half, signifying that the Old Covenant sacrificial sytem was to be no more.

And the veil of the temple was rent in twain (two) from the top to the bottom. And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. (Mark 15:38-39)

Where is the Jewish Temple today? It is not to be found and there can be no atonement for the sins of the people without the shedding of blood.  The Temple sacrifices were not accepted in the sight of God after the ultimate, final and perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ. That was the very purpose of the veil in the Temple being torn on half when Christ died. The high priest went into the temple and entered through the veil once a year, on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur-The Day of Covering).  The high priest took the blood from the animal sacrifices and sprinkled it on the mercy seat for the atonement of sin. But all of that stopped in the sight of God when Jesus, the great high Priest, entered into the true holy place in heaven.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. (Leviticus 17:11)

The Old Covenant has been completely done away with and if somebody tells you something else then they are preaching falsehood to you. All of the sacrifices pointed to Jesus Christ. The Passover pointed to Jesus Christ also and that is why John the Baptist referred to Jesus as the Lamb of God:

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)

Paul the Jewish apostle of Jesus Christ wrote the following words almost two thousand years ago:

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his BLOOD we shall be saved from wrath through him. (Romans 5:8-9)

The blood that was shed by Jesus Christ is now the ONLY blood that can reconcile a sinner back to God. Friends, that is the absolute Bible truth.  That was the very purpose Jesus Christ came to this world. The gospel message is still for both the Jew and the Gentile, but there is no special revelation or reservation for the “ethnic” Jewish person when it comes to salvation. In fact if there were a special revelation or reservation for the Jewish person, then everything that Jesus Christ preached meant absolutely nothing.  If a fair minded person will read through the gospel accounts they will see that Christ was dealing with the issues of the heart, and he was constantly rebuking the Jewish Pharisees for their outward form of religion.  The Jewish apostle Paul wrote the following also:

For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. (Romans 2:28-29)

It all has to do with the heart and nothing to do with a persons ethnic background. Jesus told Nicodemus, a Jewish ruler, that he needed to be born again or he would not see the Kingdom of God.  Jesus did not say maybe, or could be, or should be, but MUST BE! The Kingdom of God is open to all people on planet earth, and their sins can be forgiven through the BLOOD of Jesus Christ.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:6-7)

BEWARE OF THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES

John Hagee mentioned the fact that Christians are the wild branches that have been grafted into the  good olive tree, and he was obviously referring to the verses from Romans Chapter 11.  I am in full agreement with the truth that the Jewish people represent the good olive tree, but please do not forget to mention that this is speaking about the Jewish people who followed the Lord and recognized the Messiah when he came. The Jewish people who did not recognize the Messiah were broken off  branches because they rejected the very one whom God the Father sent!

The Gentile people who have put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ have been grafted into the “good olive tree” and they are there along with the Jewish people who also believe in Jesus and recognize him as the Messiah.  For the past two thousand years Jewish people have received the very SAME Grace that the Gentiles have recieved and they have received eternal life in Jesus Christ. There is NO difference between the Jew and the Gentile.

Beware of the phrase “replacement theology” because it is a term used by Christian Zionists.  It paints a picture that portrays people who do not agree with their false theology appear anti-semitic. Do not be intimidated by that term, because the Lord Jesus Christ is the searcher of hearts and he knows what is going on inside your heart.

BIBLICAL WARNINGS ABOUT AN ANTICHRIST SPIRIT

To declare that the Jewish people can still be in covenant with the Lord under the Old Covenant, living in light of the Torah,  is to agree with the Pharisees who rejected Jesus Christ two thousand years ago.  To declare that message is to oppose the very message of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Not only that but the apostle John warned us about those who have an “antichrist spirit” and he described them as follows:

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. (1 John 2:22)

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. (1 John 4:3)

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. (2 John 1:7)

If you were to ask many of the Jewish people who were present at that convention meeting the other night, whether or not they believed that Jesus Christ was the promised Messiah, they would answer no without any problem at all.  The very reason that the Jewish apostles were persecuted and put to death by people like Paul (before he was saved) was because they preached Jesus Christ as the Messiah! So here we are almost two thousand years later, being told by a “Christian” minister that the Jewish people can be saved by living in light of the Torah. Once again I tell you that it makes the gospel message that Peter and Paul preached, and all the others preached, seem like a waste of time. After Paul was converted the Jewish people wanted to kill him, but the Lord preserved him. Many times Paul was beaten to a pulp, and even left for dead, but the Lord kept using him for his glory. In fact if Paul were a “bug on the wall” at that convention meeting he would have been aghast at what he heard.

IS WAR ON THE HORIZON?

Toward the end of this one hour television program, there was a man dressed in an Israeli miltary uniform who walked out from the audience, up to the front of the room, and then knelt down to pray. He was wearing a prayer shawl of some sort over his head. Then another man dressed in an American military uniform came from the audience and tapped the praying Israeli soldier on the shoulder, offered his hand to him , and they shook hands. Is there a message being sent here? What was this supposed to mean? Could this be a statement being made here? Is this some type of propaganda? Could there be another war on the horizon?

John Hagee is the Pastor of the Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. He can be seen all over the airwaves throughout the world.  His preaching is often accompanied by very colorful video graphics which appear on a screen behind him.  He is known to preach against what he calls ”Isalmo Fascism” in no uncertain terms.  I thought that I was hearing things when I heard him talk in favor of a pre emptive attack on Iran. Wait a minute, did I hear correctly? Please tell me if I heard wrong.  Can we as Christians rightly call for an attack upon any nation, which would most certainly end up killing innocent civilians? What on earth is going on here?  What about the words of the master teacher and Saviour of the world Jesus:

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; (Matthew 5:44)

Do you remember when the band of men came looking for Jesus at the place in the garden where he usually prayed? Do you remember what Peter did to Malchus?

Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus. (John 18:10)

Sometime you can read a Bible verse and miss what really happened. Peter did not politely walk up to Malchus and start slicing his ear off.  It is quite obvious that Peter went to take the guys head off with a wild swing, and caught only his ear. But what did Jesus do after that?  Jesus actually healed the guys ear! (Luke 22:51) and then he made a prophetic statement:

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.  Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?  (Matthew 26:52-54)

What about the words of Jesus Christ as he was dying on the cross?

And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. (Luke 23:33-34)

Sometimes we must take a few steps back and analyze what is going on, and ask ourselves the question, Is this the Spirit of Jesus Christ at work here?  Is it the Spirit of Jesus Christ that is calling for an attack against a nation or is it a “another spirit?”  Is it the spirit of Jesus that would call for an attack upon innocent Muslim people or is it “another spirit”? Where is the fear of the Lord in all of this?

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. (John 18:36)

Only time will tell what is going to happen in the following days.  We need to keep our eyes on the Lord like never before.  One thing I do know is that the Lord is merciful and that he abhors the killing of innocent people, and we have seen more than enough of that in recent years. That is what has stirred me to write this article. As Christians we like to take our stand on pro life issues such as abortion ( I am also pro life), but then we don’t even blink an eye when hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Muslim people are killed.

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. (2 Corinthians 10:4)

Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. (Hebrews 13:13-14)

 THE JERUSALEM WHICH IS ABOVE

The scriptures tell us that HERE (on this earth) we have NO continuing city, and that includes the earthly city of Jerusalem. We, as Christians, are looking to the Jerusalem which is above (Galatians 4:26), not to the city in the Middle East.

But Jerusalem which is above is FREE, which is the mother of us all. (Galatians 4:26)

The Lord Jesus Christ had a conversation with a Samaritan woman, who was amazed that Jesus was even talking with her, because the Jewish people and the Samaritan people did not get along with each other. Jesus talked to her about true worship:

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias (Messiah) cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee AM HE (John 4:21-26)

The Lord made it ever so clear to this woman that physical location did not matter anymore, because God must be worshiped in spirit and truth. Jesus said the hour was coming AND NOW IS when true worshipers would worship God in spirit and truth, which means that the hour had already arrived. The Lord Jesus Christ then went on to inform this woman that he was in fact the Messiah. Now either Jesus was telling the truth or he is a liar.  If Jesus declared to this woman that he was in fact the Messiah, and that the hour had arrived when people could worship him from anywhere in the world, then I would not dare to tamper with the word of God.  That same Samaritan woman went back to her town and brought others back to hear Jesus for themselves and, as a result, many were saved.

And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him (Jesus) for the saying of the woman, which testified, He (Jesus) told me all that ever I did. So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. (John 4:39-42)

The same living waters (spiritual) that Jesus offered to this Samaritan woman has been offered to both Jew and Gentile alike, for nearly two thousand years.  There is no postponement, no other covenant, no other way, but the way which God has provided through his Son Jesus Christ.

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. (2 Corinthians 11:3-4)”

  1. Excellent article, thanks. I’ve never been a fan of his, but this article (see following link) put the icing on the cake for me. It’s a review of his book ‘in defense of israel’:

In case you want to read it.

  2. Oops, I forgot to add to the above comment — there are Jewish people who believe Jesus (Yeshua) is their Messiah, for instance here: http://jewsforjesus.blogspot.com/

  3. Well said! Well written. Is there anyone who can contend with God?
Do not be alarmed because these things must happen. They cannot be avoided because the Word of God must come to pass. Let God be true and every man a liar!

  4. Yep, Hagee is a false teacher and merchandizer.

Romans chapters 9 – 11 is the definitive explanation concerning Israel, her present and her future.

  5. Hagee is one of those false teachers who has slipped under the wire undetected, in most Christian circles, for years.

You don’t want to get me started on John Hagee and his warped theology Mariam. ahaha,…I’d fill up this whole page and more.

Bill over at soul refuge also has some very good audio/video links posted on the topic of Christian Zionism and/or Hagee and his Cufi org. as well.

  6. The Gospel is the the Jew first. We should never forget that.

  7. AMEN, AMEN!!! This here is the TRUTH, sister. The blind antichrist allegiance to physical nations would come down if people only stopped listening to these wolves (like Hagee) and started to study the Scriptures, wanting only to know and please their Savior. The Whole Bible refutes Hagee’s claims. It is a shame on Christ and the Church that we even put up with such as these – they make a complete mockery of the gospel.

  8. The all encompassing, one size fits all bandwagon trundles onward. Squeezed upon the wagon are the preachers peddling their wares? From gold dust to gem stones, faith teaching to Israel and even directions to an angelic lair. Through every city, the wagon trundles and behind a marching band with marvellous noise at which the curtains twitch and people pour out onto streets. Is this the sound of wisdom calling, it does not really matter for its resonance is unequalled to itching ears.
Personally, I want to close the windows and the door. There is little time left in which to concentrate on finding wedding clothes for the banquet feast. If I get there, I know that there will be room enough at a table prepared for the blood tied predestined Jews and the believing gentiles mercifully and gracefully grafted in. And over our heads will be a banner – His name – love.

  9. Romans 9,10 and 11 make it quite clear that believers in Yeshua are grafted into the Olive Tree. We are now included in Israel. Many of the true branches have been broken off. If they had not, we could not have been included.
The only way for anyone to be saved is:

Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
    Acts 2:38-39 (KJV)

Peter was a Jew as were those he preached to at Pentecost. If they needed to repent, be baptised in the name of Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah back then, it is still a requirement of God today.

There is much in the Bible that tells us about Israel in the last days, but nowhere does it say the Jews can be saved except through Yeshua.

There are many evangelicals who are sending money to Israel to support the building of the new Temple. Why? The priests intend to start the sacrifices again.

Yeshua is the fulfilment of the sacrifices for us. Hebrews makes it quite clear,

By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all
    Heb 10:10 (NKJV)

The sacrifices of the Old Covenant foreshadowed the death of Yeshua for us. We should not be supporting a temple that will be built to reinstate the practices of the Old Covenant. That has been fulfilled in Yeshua.

Christian Zionism seems to support the wrong things. We owe the Jewish Nation a great debt. They gave us the Scriptures and above all our saviour, Messiah Yeshua. God has indeed blessed the nations as he promised Abraham. What better way could we thank them but by showing them how to have a relationship with God and know salvation for themselves?

It breaks my heart when people like Hagee suggest that they are already saved. I know some lovely Jewish people who really love God, but they don’t know Him. I know of others who do, and live in fear of being discovered. Such irresponsible talk makes their lives all the more dangerous.

To belong to Messiah we have to be baptized in His name [which comes after repentance]. Paul makes the position quite clear:

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
    Gal 3:27-29 (KJV)

Let’s tell everyone the Good News, regardless of who they are. As we were commanded by our Lord:

Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
    Mark 16:15 (KJV)

  11. I have had my ups and downs with John Hagee … my only views of him till now have been on his 1pm show on TBN.

I would continue to watch TBN after the 700 Club went off and I would at first watch, then I clicked him off for several years, but one day he came on and I was busy with something else on the computer so I let him linger.

That’s when I heard John Hagee say “Israel is not your problem … it is Gods problem … it started with Abraham”.

Now what … he hooked me with the truth, because I don’t worry about Israel half as much as I use to.

  13. I agree that the Jews are under the same covenant that we are JESUS is the only way to salvation, there is no other name by which man must be saved! That being said there are a couple of underlying things that Im picking up on. One, that there has never been a war that should have been fought. I have a problem with this since the word says that GOD sets up and He tears down. Not one leader in this planets history has been allowed to be there without GODS OK. Are you saying that anyone who has fought in a war has been out of GODS will? Also the 2 bombs that were dropped on Japan, however gruesome and painful, no doubt saved millions of Japanese as well as American lives. Who did JESUS say had more faith than anyone in all Israel, the Centurion did. He would be the eguivalent of a captain today. Now did JESUS say, as soon as you quit being a soldier you can be saved, and then Ill heal your servant boy. No JESUS said go your way it will be done as you ask, and if there is any doubt as to whether the man was saved Jesus went on to say, many will come from east and west and will sit with Abraham, Isaac, and, Jacob in the kingdom of heaven while the sons and hiers will be driven out. Did not Paul say that he that carries the sword does not do so in vain. I would also say that your figures on Iraq are distorted. Now, do I like war No! Does GOD like seeing people slaughtered, No! Should Israel sit back and let Iran throw a couple nukes its way NO! Did GOD have a hand in the state of Israel coming back into existance, I believe yes according to Ezekial 37. I do whole heartedly agree that the Jew must be saved by JESUS, nothing else!!!! Scripture plainly bears that out! Do I think that we should be in Iraq, tough call. Many arguments can be made, for or against, but you question the killing of innocent Muslims in Iraq , they are also subject to the same savior as the Jews and the rest of us, therefore NOT INNOCENT. What about the innocent Jews that would be massacred by a nuclear bomb! I have to admit you are causing me to put much thought and prayer into this. I, until this upcoming election have always been very involved with politics, it is becoming more clear to me however that my calling is to be the christian that Im supposed to be, to shine the light where needed and to be that light myself. I would ask though, what are we to do when it comes time to vote? Do we sit home and allow all those who would vote for any and every liberal agenda, be the ones who decides how we will be governed, or do we take the responsibility to research and cast our vote? Remember whoever you vote for could one day send us to war. King David a man after GODS own heart shed much blood. Didnt GOD say IM the same yesterday today and forever. I am not writing this to cause problems, it just seems to me that these are very complex issues, and I believe can have scripture applied in either direction. It also says of Israel I will bless those who bless thee and I will curse those who curse thee. There is one more question, what do we do if someone comes into our house and goes to do harm to a loved one or anyone for that matter, is it right to passively stand there and allow it to happen? JESUS chased the money changers out with a whip. Believe me I do see what you are saying, I just dont see that scripturally it is as cut and dried as you make it. Once again I agree that there is no other way to be saved but through the sacrifice JESUS made for our sins be it Jew or Gentile!!! John Hagee is leading people astray, and if he really believes that the Jews are GODS chosen people, how much more should he be telling the TRUTH!!! GOD BLESS ALL!!

  15. This comment if for Vince:

Just because God sets up and tears down does not mean that those who go to war are in His perfect will. God allows people free choice, and many freely choose to war.

One could ask: since God determines the number of our days, doesn’t that mean that every abortionist and other murderer is in the will of God? After all, they can’t murder unless God allows it.

No one implied that one must “quit being a soldier” to be saved. Jesus saves us as we are, but then He says “Go and sin no more.” Part of walking out our faith is obedience to Christ, the One who said we are to love our enemies and turn the other cheek.

No, the Muslims are not “innocent,” yet our job as Christians is to “go…teach all nations, baptizing them…” (Matt. 28:19-20) A soldier whose loyalty is to an earthly kingdom can go and kill. But a soldier of Christ, and His eternal kingdom, must go and teach. Those are our orders! If we go and kill, we prove that we are taking orders from the god of this world.

It’s rather hard to teach the gospel to people while you are holding a machine gun, isn’t it? How would you feel blowing people up and knowing you were sending them to an eternity in hell? What if you were merciful instead, and they were given more time to respond to the gospel? I have pondered this very carefully and decided that no matter what, a clean conscience before God means I must NEVER kill. I am born again. Better for me to die than a murderer to die and lose his chance to repent.

While God is the same yesterday, today and forever, His Covenant has changed from old to new. In the old covenant, physical war was waged to make a physical kingdom. Under the New Covenant, spiritual war is waged to build a spiritual kingdom. The Christian’s weapons are NOT CARNAL (2 Cor.10:4) Jesus did not war after the flesh, but after the spirit. He let his enemies persecute Him to the death in order to save them. We must pick up our crosses and follow Him. God bless you.

  16. Contrary to what Hagee says, the Scripture, thru command and recorded precedents, shows that there is only one gospel to be preached, and that which can save, and it’s to be preached to all the world, Jew and Gentile, without partiality.

We preach the gospel by the Spirit, but only God can save, therefore, it makes no difference whether we are preaching to Jews or Gentiles, bcos only God can save them.

The Scriptures tell us plainly what God has said He is going to do with the Jewish nation (Romans 9-11 and many other passages).

And, God’s plan for Israel after the flesh (natural Israel) does not contradict the gospel of Jesus Christ, even though natural Israel is still blinded by God, for a purpose.

The problem is that many good Christian people have become seduced by (bought into) the anti-Semitic spirit of this age to the point that when they read Romans 9-11 they are blinded from understanding it, truly, a veil is over their hearts and minds.

  17. Melissa, I do understand what you are saying, and since you put it the way you did about the abortionist it makes it a little easier to understand. I guess what Im trying to say is, in a perfect world JESUS is ruling and nations are all made up of his children thus no war.(THE MILLENIUM) Since that is not the case countries have to fight. There is another thing though, the centurion having stayed a centurion was obligated to carry out his duty which could have consisted of ordering people to be killed. If he was not to carry this out he was living a lie and would have to quit. I also believe as the word says that GOD sends his angels to protect those who will inherit salvation. Does that give us a license to go shoot whoever we want and GOD will sort them out, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I have given this much thought also, and for just me I could let someone do as he wants to me, as for my family I have a responsability to watch over them and keep them from harm, whether that be physically or spiritually. My conscience would not allow me to stand back and do nothing while someone hurt my family or someone that I didnt know for that matter, would my intention be to kill them, NO!!! That would be taking vengence and that would be wrong! However if in the process of protecting someone else that person died I would not feel guilty. I do not condone violence and will avoid it at all cost. I do not believe you can show me scripture that proves to me that Im not to DEFEND others. Not Kill, DEFEND. The main thing Im having a hard time with is expecting Israel to do nothing while Ahmadinajad swares to wipe them off the map. There is one more question I have. Hitler used his free will to start WW2, If everyone would have been passive and did nothing how many people would have died and went to hell because a mad man was left unchecked? Please do not misunderstand me, I do hear what you are saying and as far as my life goes, it is no longer mine it is GODS! I have let go of politics, although my conscience will not allow me to sit back and not vote. To me that is a privalidge that some countries dont have and is to be thankful to my HEAVENLY FATHER FOR. That being said, the world will do what it will do, I must serve JESUS, and if I am wrong on the defend part the HOLY SPIRIT will have to change my conscience, because right now I would feel GUILTY doing nothing. GOD BLESS YOU MELISSA AND EVERYONE ELSE!!!

San Antonio is also home of ex-TBNer Rick Godwin who, while distancing himself from his Latter Rain past, is still promoting a Word of Faith doctrine laced with pop psychology. But, I digress…

  19. I attended his church for a few years and I was a bit of an embarrassment as I am a Jew who believes in Yeshua and believes in the evangelization of all.

As heard more about this double covenent, I began to question why repent from my sins? There were some girls in the choir, I was a choir member too, that were sleeping with Jewish guys, That was Ok but if there were two goyim having sex out of marriage, holy terror.

This double covenent teaching really bothered me and it came to a head when at one of the NIGHT TO SUPPORT ISRAEL the choir was scheduled to sing, “He is YHVH (Jehovah).” The words were changed to refer to a coming Messiah who had not come yet. I left before that NIGHT TO HONOR ISRAEL and haven’t gone since.

    Comment by ed | July 23, 2008

  20. Vince, I agree with you that this is a complex subject, not easily discerned, particularly in the area of defending the weaker – like our families. My instinct would be to do whatever necessary to protect my family. But I’m not convinced that would be God’s will. Jesus said if you save your life on earth, you will lose it for eternity. He put more value on the next life than on this one. I hope and pray that if anything threatened my family, I would react in a way that would please the Lord.

It helps me to remember that Peter was defending the Lord Jesus (an innocent person) when he cut of Malchus’ ear. I’m sure it was personal for him, just as it would be personal for us. Jesus rebuked him, however, and promised that those who live by the sword will die by the sword.

Regarding particular conflicts…like Israel/Ahmadinejad, for instance…there is so much propaganda, it is very difficult to tell what is true and what is false. The so called “Christian right” has become a master at demonizing arab nations so as to paint Israel in glorious light. (If they didn’t have the bad theology in the first place they wouldn’t be so involved in Israel’s affairs.)

I am not suggesting that arab nations are peaceful and righteous. However, some root problems are purposely overlooked, such as the displacement and killing of thousands of Palestinians when Israel became a state. I’ve heard a teacher say that there is no such thing as a Palestinian. What nonsense!

I can’t really answer your question about Hitler, except that if it weren’t for so called “christians” under him, who gave him their allegiance, instead of exposing him for what he was in the beginning, the holocaust might never have happened. It is true that the world went in and put an end to the madness, but that is a shame on the church. The church as a whole was silent and complicent to his crimes. I believe it is the breakdown of the church that leads to national disasters. (like in America today.)

So, brother, while the world “must” wage wars, as you said, I think the job of the Christian is to take the message of the gospel to all nations. The world has no recourse but to seek its own will. The world is like a group of children who can’t get along. “She’s in my space, he touched me, she took my toy, give it back, etc.”

But children of God are children of the light. Our kingdom is a kingdom of peace. We are in the world but not of the world. Our only goal is to bring souls to Jesus.

The problem with finding particular scenarios where we justify war in our minds, is that once we are enlisted to war, we don’t get to call the shots. We must then submit to the god of this age, and kill on command. Far better for the disciple of Christ to keep his loyalty to Christ undivided.

You said yourself that no one leader is allowed to be there without God’s OK. Wicked leaders rise because good men do nothing. As in, they don’t preach the gospel and live the light out loud, denouncing wickedness, etc. If God has allowed Ahmadinejad to rise, should Christians then want to war with him? Is that going to change the arab nation for the better? Are they going to become peaceful toward Israel because we go in and kill some more people? No. Peace only comes through a saving encounter with the Prince of Peace. That can only happen when the gospel is heard. And that can only happen when preachers go with the message, risking their lives.

Interesting that Jesus never taught his disciples, nor did any apostle EVER teach Christians, to take up arms in our defense of the poor and afflicted. There are other ways we can defend the weak…with words of truth, which are more powerful than the sword. When we spread the true gospel message, it changes people’s hearts.

The kingdom of God has always advanced with the blood of martyrs.

    God bless you too, Vince.

    Comment by Vince | July 23, 2008

  23. Melissa, the reason you heard someone say that there is no such thing as a “Palestinian” is because until Israel became a nation, the arabs living in Palestine (which is what Israel was called before 1948 were bedouin nomads. There was no “nation” of Palestine.

All the “Arab” states that have grown up around Israel besides Turkey grew up BECAUSE of the Biblical fulfillment of the Jews coming back to Israel in 1948.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but this is what I know. For example, when Mark Twain wrote his famous “INNOCENTS ABROAD” in the 1860’s he visited Palestine and there was no “nation” there. Just nomadic Arabs.

When born again Christian groups started going to “Palestine” in the 1930’s — it was a kinda even more tense and dangerous situation because of the nomadic Arab issues.

BTW, the “Exodus” back to Israel came because the UN did not know what to do with the displaced Jews after the Holocaust in Europe and Britain had territorial rights to the area and, thus, the creation of Israel. Sign of the End Times. Again, someone correct me if I am wrong, but the British Balfour Agreement of 1917 and a young Churchill had much to do with it all.

  24. Arisemylove, I believe you are very correct. In fact, when Mark Twain visited the land way back then, he had said something about it being so destitute that nothing would ever grow there. But we can see, the desert did bloom and the land has become very rich with the things they have been able to produce over there.

  25. Yes, AriseMyLove you are correct, the balfour agreement was the instrument used to create the nation of Israel. GOD uses many things to bring about his will. John Hagee was dead wrong to allow Jewish people to leave that place under the impression that they dont need JESUS! How can you believe the bible and say such a thing. Wouldnt you think because they are GODS chosen people that he would that much more feel the need to tell the truth! The best thing I can see in all this is that they can be grafted back in. 26. For Your Information:
Former Talk Show Host’s Two New Books
    Challenge Evangelicals’ Theology and Politics

Redlands, CA – A former Los Angeles-based talk show host has written two books that challenge the Pre-Tribulation Rapture and evangelicals that attempt to influence the U.S.’s political decisions concerning the state of Israel. Joe Ortiz, the first Mexican American to host and English-language talk show on a commercial radio station, claims evangelicals who support the dispensational, premillennial and Left Behind doctrines have been misinformed by proponents who have misinterpreted the Bible.

Ortiz (an Indio, California native) claims in his two recently published books, The End Times Passover and Why Christians Will Suffer Great Tribulation (published by Author House) that careful scrutiny of the Bible proves that the Promised Land is not in the Middle East, the state of Israel is not God’s time piece to Armageddon, that there will be no Pre-Tribulation Rapture, and that God’s true disciples will experience great tribulation.

“Right wing evangelicals who promote the Left Behind doctrine (like Tim LaHaye, John Hagee, Hal Lindsey and others), believe the State of Israel is key to Bible prophecy,” said Ortiz. “The proponents of this erroneous doctrine have unwittingly been pounding their theological hammers on U.S. foreign policy for over a century, only to drive a bigger wedge between Jews and Arabs who want peace in the Middle East.

Ortiz stated his book is not a politically-motivated treatise designed to influence people to choose sides between Palestinians or Jews. He said his is an academic polemic designed for people to recognize their role should be one of peacemakers rather than promoting military solutions to a feud that’s been going on for centuries. He said his research was based on analyzing the etymology of key words in the Bible that prove conclusively that the Left Behind notion promoted by many evangelicals begins to fall apart when examined carefully.

“It took over 20 years of research to provide conclusive answers to the premillennial, dispensational debate,” said Ortiz. The author’s media experience includes more than 20 years of news reporting and hosting programs on TV and radio, as well as writing for a syndicated publisher in California. Ortiz claims that “when those preachers and teachers of Bible prophecy read this book, they will soon realize they have been promoting a militant and destructive doctrine instead of a genuine gospel of peace.”

Comment by Joe Ortiz | August 13, 2008

  27. Joe, I have no problem with the gospel of peace!!! That still does not take away from the biblical fact that prophecy in the bible revolves around the nation of Israel!! Gods word will come to pass no matter what spin you or anyone else tries to put on it!! You can not biblically tell me that the end times do not revolve around Israel!!! Who is it that finally calls on thier Messiah(The true Messiah JESUS). IT HAS TO BE TALKING ABOUT ISRAEL, NOT THE CHURCH AS THE CHURCH ALREADY KNOWS WHO THE MESSIAH IS!! In order for them to call on Him they have to be there first dont they? Where is the antichrist defeated, ISRAEL!!! I do not believe in the pre trib rapture either, but to ignore all the scripture regarding Israel is no different than what the N.A.R. does to scripture!!! I do not promote Mr. Hagee and his bunch either! Gods word is GODS word past, present, and future!!GOD BLESS!!!!

His son (Paul Dhinakaran) has recently said that, soon many Jews will accept Jesus. And there will be many archaealogical finding which will increase their faith in Jesus.

  30. Miriam,
Here is another artical of John Hagee, thought you might like to read! He also needs to be seen for what he is! He is also leading the sheep astray and fleecing the flock!!!

    Love you sister of truth!

    John Hagee’s Heresy

    Beware!

Christians have listened for many years to the preaching of John Hagee, senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. Hagee attended Trinity University on a football scholarship, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree before earning his master’s at North Texas State University. He also studied at Southwestern Bible College and was granted an honorary doctorate from Oral Roberts University.

Hagee’s ministerial activities began in 1958 as an evangelist. In 1966 he went to San Antonio to become the founding pastor of what eventually became Trinity Church. After resigning his pastorate of Trinity in May 1975, Hagee took the helm of the 25-member Church of Castle Hill in San Antonio. That church — rebuilt to seat 5,000 and dedicated in October 1987 as Cornerstone Church — now has an active membership of over 13,000.

Through his writings (books, booklets, and articles in his bimonthly John Hagee Ministries magazine), taped messages, and daily appearances on his Global Evangelism Television broadcasts (Cornerstone and John Hagee Today) aired by the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and other media outlets, Hagee has gained broad visibility and influence among evangelicals.

A number of people consider Hagee’s teachings to be thoroughly biblical. We would disagree with Hagee, however, on the following points.

    Preaching Prosperity

John Hagee believes that all Christians should be financially prosperous so long as they continue to walk in obedience to God’s ordinances. Although he does not subscribe to every doctrine common to the so-called Faith movement, he does agree with the movement’s view that “poverty is caused by sin and disobeying the Word of God.”1 Hagee, like most other prosperity preachers, believes that “poverty is a curse.”2

Christians achieve prosperity through giving, asserts Hagee. “When you give to God, He controls your income. There’s no such thing as a fixed income in the Kingdom of God. Your income is controlled by your giving.”3 According to Hagee, Christians grow prosperous through giving because “God created a universe where it is impossible to receive without giving. Everything that God controls, gives. . . . Givers gain. You do not qualify for God’s abundance until you give.”4

Turning to the Bible, however, one finds a number of passages that run contrary to Hagee’s teachings concerning prosperity. Jesus Himself said, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. . . . But woe to you who are rich . . .” (Luke 6:20, 24 NASB). James underscores this point when he asked, “. . . did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?” (James 2:5). James later follows with stern words to the rich (5:1-6; cf. Mark 10:25).

This is not to say that Christians should consider wealth as something inherently evil. The Bible simply tells us that material wealth is not the measuring stick for righteousness or God’s blessing; its proper value lies in the purpose for which it is used.

This is precisely why Paul gave the following exhortation to Timothy: “Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed” (1 Tim. 6:17-19).

The power of wealth, however, is such that it can lead people into idolatry. Some, for instance, may become so caught up in matters of finances and wealth that they neglect or completely forget about their duties and responsibilities to God. God, for some of these individuals, may begin to fade out of the picture altogether, being replaced by crass materialism. Rather than grounding their primary concerns on the eternal, they instead devote their lives to that which perishes (John 6:27; Matt. 6:19-21).5

    Promoting Positive Confession

Along with the prosperity message, Hagee accepts and promotes the doctrine of positive confession — a foundational teaching of the Faith movement which maintains that Christians can speak (i.e., positively confess) physical realities into existence as long as the believer exercises enough faith to accompany his or her verbal confession. “There is a relationship between your soul and physical and financial prosperity,” declares Hagee. “‘This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth’ [quoting Josh. 1:8 KJV]. That’s the spoken Word of God. ‘And then thou shalt prosper and have good success.’ When? After you speak and act upon the Word of God. And you’ve been hearing that tonight out of the mouth of [well-known Faith teacher] John Avanzini.”6

Like his teachings on prosperity, Hagee’s reiteration of the Faith movement’s doctrine of positive confession runs contrary to the teachings of Scripture. Nothing confessed by believers in faith — verbally or otherwise — automatically comes to pass. Only God has the power to create as He wills (Gen. 1:1). Christians are certainly instructed to pray to God for their requests (Matt. 6:8-13; 21:22). Ultimately, however, all such requests are subject to God’s sovereign will; whichever ones come to pass only do so as a direct result of God’s will and not the will of the believer (1 John 5:14).7

    Salvation Without Conversion?

Hagee is recognized as a fierce foe of anti-Semitism. An outspoken supporter of the Jewish people, Judaism, and the nation Israel, he has been given the “Humanitarian of the Year” award by the San Antonio B’nai B’rith Council. Hagee has also been bestowed the “ZOA Israel Service Award” by the Zionist Organization in Dallas and honored with the “Henrietta Szold Award” by the Texas Southern Region of Hadassah.8

While his bold stance against anti-Semitism is certainly praiseworthy, Hagee’s zealousness for the Jewish people and their cause has led him to commit a most serious doctrinal error — salvation for the Jews without conversion to Christianity. One newspaper account puts it this way:

Trying to convert Jews is a “waste of time,” he [Hagee] said. . . .

Everyone else, whether Buddhist or Baha’i, needs to believe in Jesus, he says. But not Jews. Jews already have a covenant with God that has never been replaced with Christianity, he says.

“The Jewish people have a relationship to God through the law of God as given through Moses,” Hagee said. “I believe that every Gentile person can only come to God through the cross of Christ. I believe that every Jewish person who lives in the light of the Torah, which is the word of God, has a relationship with God and will come to redemption.

“The law of Moses is sufficient enough to bring a person into the knowledge of God until God gives him a greater revelation. And God has not,” said Hagee . . .9

“There are right now Jewish people on this earth who have a powerful and special relationship with God,” declares Hagee in one of his books. “They have been chosen by the ‘election of grace’ in which God does what he does without asking man to approve or understand it. Let us put an end to the Christian chatter that “all the Jews are lost” and can’t be in the will of God until they convert to Christianity! . . . there are a certain number of Jews in relationship with God right now through divine election.” 10

Hagee also affirms: “If God blinded the Jewish people to the identity of Jesus as Messiah, how could He send them to hell for not seeing what he had forbidden them to see?”11 He continues, “All people will gain entrance into heaven through Christ. The question is one of timing.” 12

Such rhetoric raises some thorny questions. When Hagee says “all people will gain entrance into heaven through Christ,” he is either advocating universalism (literally all people — Jewish and Gentile — will be saved), or he believes that all Jews will be saved. In either case, both positions are in serious error, but the latter is more consistent with his other statements.

The “timing” of the salvation of the entire Jewish nation is actually irrelevant to Hagee’s argument since he advocates that it is a waste of time attempting to convert them. At best, then, Hagee implies that even if they are not currently saved, God will save all Jewish keepers of the Law — past, present, and future — at some future point.

The Bible paints a different picture. The apostle Paul demonstrates that Israel had a responsibility to respond to the Gospel, but rejected it. In Romans 10:19-21, he asks, “Did they [the Jews] fail to hear?” The rhetorical answer is “no.” Paul relates that, as light and darkness are understood by all, so the gospel has been made known to all the Jews (cf. Acts 17:6; 21:28). He continues, “Did they fail to understand?” The answer once again is “no.” Since Israel has become disobedient through unbelief (Rom. 11:30), God has delivered the gospel to the Gentiles.13

But God has not entirely rejected Israel — Paul (himself a Jew) is living proof of this (Rom. 11:1). God has preserved a remnant, while the others were hardened as a consequence of their unbelief and trusting in works instead of the righteousness of Christ (Rom. 11:5-7; cf. 9:31-32; 11:20-23). Elsewhere the apostle writes, “. . . by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His [God's] sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. . . . for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 3:20, 23-24, emphasis added).

To drive the point home, Paul goes on to say, “. . . the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if those who are of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise nullified; . . . it is by faith, that it might be in accordance with grace” (Rom. 4:13- 14, 16). Scripture draws no distinction between Jews and Gentiles on the issue of salvation, which is attained by grace through faith alone in Christ, “apart from works of the law” (3:28; cf. vv. 21-22).

Paul recognized that the Jews of his day had a misguided zeal that caused them to stumble on this very point (9:31-32; 10:2-4). Why would he suffer great anguish and wish he were accursed for Israel’s sake if none of them were truly lost? His anguish comes from the realization that many Israelites are not saved (Rom. 9:3, 6, 27; 10:1, 9-15; cf. Acts 2:14, 21, 37-39; Rom. 11:14, 17-23).

The Law, revealed through the Jews, was meant to be “our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor” (Gal. 3:24-25). As the Bible clearly states: “There is neither Jew nor Greek . . . for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise” (vv. 28-29). To be saved, a person — whether Jew or Gentile — must turn to Christ (5:4-6; cf. John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Rom. 10:9-13) who is “the end of the law for righteousness for everyone who believes” (Rom. 10:4). In writing that the “message of the gospel was from Israel, not to Israel,”14 Hagee discourages Christians from sharing the Good News with unsaved Jews who, like everyone else, have need of the gospel if they are to spend eternity with God in heaven.

    The Reluctant Messiah

In Hagee’s theology, the Jews can hardly be faulted for not flocking to Christianity since it was supposedly Jesus who declined their request for Him to be their Messiah. “The [Jewish] people wanted Him to be their Messiah, but He absolutely refused,” writes Hagee. “The Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah, it was Jesus who was refusing to be the Messiah to the Jews!”15

Suffice it to say, Jesus’ explicit claim to be the Messiah (or Christ) during His trial before the Sanhedrin, the supreme Jewish tribunal (Matt. 26:64), flatly contradicts Hagee’s assertion. In that same passage, Jesus called Himself the “Son of Man,” an unmistakable reference to the Book of Daniel (7:13) which alludes to the Messiah. Jesus also applied the same title to Himself in revealing His identity to “a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council” (John 3:1, 14-15), as well as to the crowd who questioned His authority to forgive sins (Mark 2:10).

Furthermore, in response to Jesus’ question, “Who do you say I am?” (Matt. 16:15), Peter answered, “You are the Christ [Messiah]” (v. 16). Surely, had the Jewish apostle been wrong, Jesus would have corrected him at that moment; instead, Peter received the Lord’s blessing (v. 17).16 Jesus, however, instructed Peter, along with several others, not to reveal His messianic identity until due time (v. 20). He did so to avoid the prevalent misconceptions about the title, which had by then become largely understood in political terms17 — something wholly inappropriate for Jesus’ mission at that time — though Jesus did, on occasion, give public indications of His messiahship (cf. Luke 4:17-21; 20:41-44).

Indeed, Hagee’s view is made especially ironic by the fact that Jesus Himself said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel” (Matt. 15:24). Scripture clearly teaches that Jesus’ own people rejected Him, and not the other way around (John 1:11; Mark 12:1-12).

    Judging Alternative Viewpoints as Anti-Semitic

Hagee’s personal view regarding the Jewish people has led him to render harsh and inaccurate statements about individuals who differ with him on Israel’s relationship with the church. Those who believe the church is now the true Israel are, in his opinion, guilty of spreading the message of anti-Semitism.18 And along with amillennialism — “the view that when Christ returns, eternity begins with no prior thousand-year (millennial) reign on earth”19 — it is condemned as “ancient Godless heresy that is again raging through the Church masquerading as truth.”20

Whether Hagee realizes it or not, a number of orthodox Christian denominations (especially in the Reformed and Presbyterian traditions) espouse the very view he caricatures and condemns. The view that there has always been and will only be one people of God (namely, Israel) and that the church comprises that faction of humanity (the new Israel, made up of both Jews and non-Jews) is a feature of what is commonly known as Covenant theology — a theological framework long recognized as biblical and in no way anti-Semitic.21

According to Hagee, this purported “heresy” goes by various names, including “Kingdom Now, Kingdom Age, New Wave and New Age.”22 He declares, however, that such “Replacement theology” (so-called by Hagee because of its view that the church is the new Israel or spiritual Israel — though Hagee did not originate the term) is in reality an “old heresy”23 and “idolatry.”24 He also claims that so-called “Replacement theologians are now carrying Hitler’s anointing and his message.”25

Judging from the quotes and references he cites, Hagee seems to have based his idea of “Replacement theology” primarily on the teachings of Earl Paulk, the premiere advocate of Kingdom theology.26 While Paulk can be criticized for any number of unbiblical elements comprising Kingdom Theology (including positive confession, the “fivefold ministry,” and the “Manifest Sons of God” doctrine),27 Hagee all but limits his attack on Paulk’s view that the church is spiritual Israel — a view that is, in fact, orthodox.

Paul states, “. . . they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel” (Rom. 9:6). Going on, he clarifies that “. . . it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants” (v. 8). Paul explains that “. . . he is not a Jew who is one outwardly; neither is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God” (2:28-29; cf. Phil. 3:3).

Clearly, then, believers in the One true God are, at least in a spiritual sense, identified with Israel — as God’s chosen people. “Therefore,” as Paul so aptly puts it, “be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham” (Gal. 3:7; cf. vv. 26-29; 6:15-16).28 Conversely, Judaizers — those who rejected justification by faith by their insistence that adherence to Jewish laws and practices is, at least in part, necessary for salvation — are called the “synagogue of Satan” (Rev. 2:9; 3:9).

“Is it important to be right on the Israel question?” asks Hagee. “When you consider that being wrong brings you under the curse of God and headed for eternal, everlasting fire with the devil and his angels . . . it’s important! Israel is not a ‘take it or leave it’ subject. It is a life and death matter . . . eternal life!”29

It is indeed unfortunate that Hagee would think one’s personal view of Israel can radically affect an individual’s eternal destiny. Nowhere does Scripture state that salvation hinges upon a person’s perspective of the new Israel. Hagee has no biblical basis for his denouncement. By making such unwarranted statements, Hagee winds up condemning many erstwhile believers, theologians, and defenders of the faith — both past and present.

Though many may claim Hagee’s preaching is helping to spread the Word of God and building a bridge of unity between the Christian and Jewish communities, the fact remains that his message contains elements which lie in direct and serious opposition to biblical truth.

At the second coming of Christ, the resurrection and judgment will take place, followed by the eternal order of things — the absolute, perfect kingdom of God, in which there will be no sin, suffering, nor death” (72). 23Ibid., 74. Hagee quotes Ignatius of Antioch (c. He supported apostolic authority and became the bishop of Antioch, one of the leading churches in the first century (cf. Acts 11:19-29; 13:1-3). His view that the church was the new Israel would thus have been a teaching passed on to him by the apostles. Ignatius’s writings are reprinted and translated in J. B. Lightfoot and J. R. 31. The way I read this, God put a blessing on the man Abraham, and make out of him a great nation and that God would bless those that bless Abraham and curse those who curse Abraham AND in him shall ALL Families of the earth be blessed.

    Genesis 12:

1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 12:4

Now, this does not sound the same as blessings or cursings as it relates to a stand (pro or con) for the man-made nation state of a place called Israel.

With that logic, what nation is God referring to that would arise from Abraham and how can “all families” of the earth be blessed?

The answer seems to be that this nation, spoken of by God, is that which is comprised of Christians who are called Israel and it was Jesus Christ by which all families of the earth would be blessed.

    Galations 3:

3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 3:9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. 3:19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 3:25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

    1st Peter 2:

2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy

    Romans 11:

11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 11:2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying, 11:3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life. 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

    To sum it up,

We Christians are the spiritual Israel and we are this “great nation” foreknown and ordained. The blessing to all the families is Jesus given from God to mankind by way of Abraham, through which Jesus came to manifest his spiritual self in a physical body.

No, not Jew or any other human being can come to salvation other than through the final covenant brought to mankind by Jesus Christ’s work done on the cross. He did it for us, all we have to do is accept that great gift, given by a mighty God to all families of the earth!

  32. Mike, right on!! How many “Christians”, actually realize that the “church”, did not start in Acts 2? We have been soooo brainwashed that we really don’t know who we really are. If we actually knew that there is no way YHVH could change His covenant with Israel. A lot of “christians” don’t even know that all Israelits are NOT Jews, but all Jews, are Israelits. I guess we have gotten so far from our roots, we don’t want to accept the fact that if we are followers of Jeshua, we are grafted into HIS system, not a gentile system. What was “the church”, called in the old testament? Think about it! Could it have been Israel? Something to think about!!!!!!

  33. Lots of interesting thoughts. Re CZ, Hagee etc., there’s an article on Google entitled “Roots of (Warlike) Christian Zionism” that will drain the blood out of the faces of all CZers! (Big hint: it reveals the long hidden anti-Jewish foundation of a popular theological system embraced by many leading TV preachers!) On the other hand, if readers are up to engaging in deep background study of it in full-length scholarly book form, their baby would definitely be “The End Times Passover” (Author House) by Los Angeles media personality/Greek New Testament scholar Joseph Ortiz. Now you know. God bless. Mary-Ann

  35. YHVH is faithful to His promise made to Abraham. When Israel was surrounded by muslim nations trying to wipe out this infant reborned nation. He has shown His faithfulness by protecting Israel since 1948.
    He is a faithful GOD!!!
Replacement theology is definitely not right. Jewish people have suffered enough.
