Sarah Palin’s Churches and The Third Wave New Apostolic Reformation

By Bruce Wilson from here

“Sarah Palin’s churches are actively involved in a resurgent movement that was declared heretical by the Assemblies of God in 1949. This is the same ‘Spiritual Warfare’ movement that was featured in the award winning movie, “Jesus Camp,” which showed young children being trained to do battle for the Lord. At least three of four of Palin’s churches are involved with major organizations and leaders of this movement, which is referred to as The Third Wave of the Holy Spirit or the New Apostolic Reformation. The movement is training a young “Joel’s Army” to take dominion over the United States and the world.

Along with her entire family, Sarah Palin was re-baptized at twelve at the Wasilla Assembly of God in Wasilla, Alaska and she attended the church from the time she was ten until 2002: over two and 1/2 decades. Sarah Palin’s extensive pattern of association with the Wasilla Assembly of God has continued nearly up to the day she was picked by Senator John McCain as a vice-presidential running mate. Palin’s dedication to the Wasilla church is indicated by a Saturday, September 7, 2008, McClatchy news service story detailing possibly improper use of state travel funds by Palin for a trip she made to Wasilla, Alaska to attend, on June 8, 2008, both a Wasilla Assembly of God “Masters Commission” graduation ceremony and also a multi-church Wasilla area event known as “One Lord Sunday.” At the latter event, Palin and Alaska LT Governor Scott Parnell were publicly blessed, onstage before an estimated crowd of 6,000, through the “laying on of hands” by Wasilla Assembly of God’s Head Pastor Ed Kalnins whose sermons espouse such theological concepts as the possession of geographic territories by demonic spirits and the inter-generational transmission of family “curses”. Palin has also been blessed, or “anointed,” by an African cleric, prominent in the Third Wave movement, who has repeatedly visited the Wasilla Assembly of God and claims to have effected positive, dramatic social change in a Kenyan town by driving out a “spirit of witchcraft.”

The Wasilla Assembly of God church is deeply involved with both Third Wave activities and theology. Their Master’s Commission program is part of an three year post-high school international training program with studies in prophecy, intercessory prayer, Biblical exegesis, authority and leadership. The pastor, Ed Kalnins, and Masters Commission students have traveled to South Carolina to participate in a “prophetic conference” at Morningstar Ministries, one of the major ministries of the Third Wave movement. Becky Fischer was a pastor at Morningstar prior to being featured in the movie “Jesus Camp.” The head of prophecy at Morningstar, Steve Thompson, is currently scheduled to do a prophecy seminar at the Wasilla Assembly of God. Other major leaders in the movement have also traveled to Wasilla to visit and speak at the church.

The Third Wave is a revival of the theology of the Latter Rain tent revivals of the 1950s and 1960s led by William Branham and others. It is based on the idea that in the end times there will be an outpouring of supernatural powers on a group of Christians that will take authority over the existing church and the world. The believing Christians of the world will be reorganized under the Fivefold Ministry and the church restructured under the authority of Prophets and Apostles and others anointed by God. The young generation will form “Joel’s Army” to rise up and battle evil and retake the earth for God.

While segments of this belief system have been a part of Pentecostalism and charismatic beliefs for decades, the excesses of this movement were declared a heresy in 1949 by the General Council of the Assemblies of God, and again condemned through Resolution 16 in 2000. The beliefs and manifestations of the movement include the use of ’strategic level spiritual warfare’ to expel territorial demons from American and world cities. Worship includes excessive charismatic manifestations such as hundreds of people falling, ’slain in the spirit,’ and congregations laughing, jerking, and shrieking uncontrollably.

In early 2008 an outbreak of those phenomena commenced at the palatial former ministry estate of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, recently bought up and restored by prominent Third Wave author and leader Rick Joyner’s Morningstar Ministries. The (spiritual) “breakout” lasted for many weeks and was publicized in an extensive collection of video footage available on YouTube. Healing services in the Third Wave movement claim to heal the sick and injured through methods that in some cases can appear bizarre – including, as in recent cases involving Todd Bentley, the patient being head butted or kicked by the anointed healer. Recipients of such “spiritual” or miraculous healing make a wide range of astonishing claims – to have been cured of life-threatening illnesses, had joints repaired or replaced, been given gold teeth or gold fillings, regrown stunted limbs and even had deformed skeletal structures straightened and reshaped. Worldwide mission efforts of the movement are built around the idea of combating witches, warlocks, and generational curses, which prevent churches from being able to take root.

Thomas Muthee visited Wasilla Assembly of God and gave 10 consecutive sermons at the church, from October 11-16 2005. As both Palin and Wasilla AoG Head Pastor Ed Kalnins have attested, Thomas Muthee ‘prayed over’ Sarah Palin and entreated God to “make a way” prior to Palin’s successful bid for the Alaska governorship. Muthee made a return visit to the Wasilla Assembly of God in late 2008. Thomas Muthee’s Word of Faith Church is featured in the “Transformations” video which details an account on how Muthee drove “the spirit of witchcraft” out of Kiambu, Kenya, liberating the town from its territorial demonic possession and enabling a miraculous societal transformation. The “Transformations” video set is used as an argument for social improvement through spiritual instead of human means, and as the best method for fighting corruption, crime, drugs and even environmental degradation.

In the video, producer George Otis declares that after Thomas Muthee and his followers banished the “spirit of witchcraft” from the town, the crime rate in Kiambu dropped almost to zero, along with the rate of alcoholism, and according to Otis most of the residents of the town joined churches. The “Transformations” video has helped spark a network of ‘Transformation’ ministries and mission organizations and ‘transformation’ has become a buzz word for change based on supernatural instead of human efforts.

The Third Wave, also known as the New Apostolic Reformation, is a network of Apostles, many of them grouped around C. Peter Wagner, founder of the World Prayer Center. This center, which was built in coordination with Ted Haggard and his New Life Church in Colorado Springs, was featured in an article by Jeff Sharlet in Harpers, May 2005, “Soldiers of Christ.” Sharlet was one of the first to write in the secular press about the World Prayer Center which is often referred to by those familiar with the Third Wave as the ‘Pentagon for Spiritual Warfare.’ It features computer systems that store the data of communities around the world, mapping out unsaved peoples’ groups and spiritual mapping information for spiritual warfare. Wagner has his own group of about 500 Apostles in his council and each of these Apostles has ministries under their authority, sometimes hundreds or thousands. Recently various networks of Apostles came together to form the Revival Alliance. Leaders of the Revival Alliance including Rick Joyner of Morningstar anointed Todd Bentley whose Lakeland Healing Revival has recently been a controversial topic in the Evangelical world.

Wagner’s top leaders often conduct spiritual warfare campaigns against the demons that block the acceptance of their brand of Christian belief, such as ‘Operation Ice Castle’ in the Himalayas in 1997. Several of their top prophets and generals of intercession spent weeks in intensive prayer to “confront the Queen of Heaven.” This queen is considered by them to be one of the most powerful demons over the earth and is the Great Harlot of Mystery Babylon in Revelation. (The “Great Harlot [or 'whore'] of Mystery Babylon” theme also figures prominently in the sermons of Texas megachurch pastor and Christians United For Israel founder John Hagee, former endorser of John McCain’s 2008 presidential bid.) Wagner and his group also claim that the Queen of Heaven is Diana, the pagan god of the biblical book Ephesians and the god of Mary veneration in the Roman Catholic Church. Following the ‘Operation Ice Castle’ prayer excursion which included planting a flag for Jesus on Mt. Everest, one of the lead prayer intercessors from the excursion, Ana Mendez, reported that there had been dramatic results including, “millions have come to faith in Asia… and other things happened which I believe are also connected…an earthquake had destroyed the basilica of Assisi, where the Pope had called a meeting of all world religions; a hurricane destroyed the infamous temple ‘Baal-Christ’ in Acapulco, Mexico; the Princes Diana died… and Mother Theresa died in India, one of the most famous advocates of Mary as Co-Redeemer.”

Mike Rose, senior pastor of Juneau Christian Center has a long relationship with Rodney Howard -Browne, credited with being the instigator of the outbreak of ‘Holy Laughter’ around the world, including the Toronto Airport Revival.

Church of the Rock, led by Senior Pastor David Pepper, has taken their youth to participate in ‘The Call, Nashville.’ This event is held at various locations around the country under the leadership of Lou Engle, also featured in the movie “Jesus Camp.” At these events youth are worked into a frenzy of anger and consternation at supposed national moral corruption. Engle, who shuffles while he preaches in imitation of Jewish prayer, is featured toward the end of the “Jesus Camp” video documentary.

The Third Wave movement is cross-denomination and is not synonymous with any specific denomination, nor is it synonymous with Evangelical or Fundamentalist. Although the movement emerged from Pentecostalism, it draws its support from a variety of denominations and religious streams. They believe they are forming a post-denominational church to take the world for the end times. To date, all of the writing and objections to this movement have emerged from other Evangelicals and Fundamentalists who believe the movement to be unbiblical. Also, it is other conservative churches that refuse to embrace the ‘outpouring of the Spirit’ that are targets of much of the anger of the movement.

“C. Peter Wagner, head of Global Harvest Ministries in Colorado Springs, Colo., is in the vanguard of the movement. He defines three levels of spiritual warfare: “Ground-level” involves casting demons out of individuals; “occult-level warfare” involves more organized “powers of darkness” [They target here New Age thought, Tibetan Buddhism, Freemasonry, etc.]; and “strategic-level warfare” directly “confronts ‘territorial spirits’ assigned by Satan to coordinate activities over a geographical area.”

Summary of book Churchquake explaining the purpose of New Apostolic Reformation
Wagner describes how he named the movement and how they will change the church.

“The majority of the new apostolic churches not only believe in the work of the Holy Spirit, but they also regularly invite Him to come into their midst to bring supernatural power. It is commonplace, therefore, to observe active ministries of healing, demonic deliverance, spiritual warfare, prophecy, falling in the Spirit, spiritual mapping, prophetic acts, fervent intercession and travail, and so on in new apostolic churches”.

Assemblies of God and Pentecostal Holiness Church expelled Latter Rain leaders from the Church”

  1. I am holding out the slim hope that the stupidities and false doctrines of the Latter Rain movement have not been formally received by Sarah Palin in her personal faith.

As I came out of this same movement, there may be an unwittingness on Palin’s part. I know there was on mine.

Because these false doctrines of Morningstar and the NAR/Elijah Lister’s antichrist doctrines simply “do not work” in a busy, responsible Christian’s life, I am praying that Palin has not been infected to the Lakeland levels of deception.

  4. Fox News is reporting that Sarah Palin left the AOG Church in 2002 and has attended a Bible Church since that time.
AML, I too had no idea what many of the Churches and ministries I had been associated with really adhered to (latter rain, msog etc.)until recently.
Many in my sphere of influence also had no idea what these many ministries taught as well (it is very subtle).
I think many in non-denominational, spirit filled churches DO NOT really understand.
Perhaps this includes Sarah Palin. I am praying.

  5. If she is so entwined in the Wasilla AOG, I wonder why she LEFT there SIX YEARS ago, to JOIN Wasilla Bible church.

  6. Whoever put together this slam video against a fellow believer, Palin, Is obviously either an Obama, Ah,Ah,Ah,Ah,…..MuslimiChristian our messiah supporter.
Or very mixed up, or perhaps an axe to grind?
NOT once is Palin seen at Morning Star or with Joyner. But the video editing, slices and dices pieces together giving the viewer a false view of Palin. Just an old Hollywood/media political trick. I have seen many young people come out of Masters commission on fire for God in a way that makes the church look pathetic. Give me wild horses that can be trained any day over dead horses that will take you nowhere! I have several sons in the faith that have gone through Masters Commission. And I myself went through Berean School of the Bible several years ago, before all my gray hair! And I am not a dominion wacko!
PRAY that God’s will be done in the upcoming election.
Pray that Palin, yes an A/G Christian, will be protected from any infection by Wagner and Co. and all other attacks of the enemy. Spoken or Spliced videos.
I know my spirit, and my spirit(Not my soul-Mind/Will/Emotion) bears witness with her spirit that she is definitely a woman of God.
I wish I had more time….But I need to get dinner started or my wife’s gonna kill me:)!

  7. This is nothing more than bashing, by splicing and editing of a bunch of videos to discredit Sarah Palin. We need a Christian in the White House. I assure you Sarah Palin’s church is an Orthodox Assemblies of God church that believes in Sola Scriptura and the gifts of the spirit for today. The Assemblies of God has officially renounced Latter Rain and Stephen Strader is being dealt with as I write. They will be “reigning in” on the NAR shortly in order to preserve the movement.

Please follow these links if you would like to know what the Assemblies of God believes.

  10. Sarah Palin now attends Wasilla Bible Church. What is their statement of faith? I don’t know if they teach Latter Rain doctrine. I think we should give Sarah Palin the benefit of the doubt. Many who attend these churches don’t have a clue about the Latter Rain infilterations. Besides the left-wing media has sent scouts out to the churches she has attended, for one reason, to attack her faith as a christian. This would be unheard of on the other side. It’s is ridiculous!

  13. This is a hit piece, with the intent to confuse christians who vote.

I question the purpose of it’s being posted here.

Has endtimespropheticwords now joined hands with Huffington Post to try and destroy Sarah Palin with guilt by association?

Will we be seeing puff pieces on Obama posted here soon?

  15. Rick:

If you read the next post to this there is criticism of Barack Obama and his faith so I am hardly biased!

I have no intention of ‘confusing’ anybody, but informing them. IF you want to shut your ears to the facts, then more fool you.

This article presents a fair view of the dominionist NAR, if anything it is far too soft. The video of course is spliced, but it shows things that are going on and is not unfair.

If anybody who is allegedely pro life must be a ’saint’ and a good candidate for president only because of that issue, then you are blinkered and prejudiced. What too about killing the living?

    Comment by endtimespropheticwords | September 10, 2008

  16. Paula - ‘churches’ is the key word as Palin has been involved with several, and still has connections with her ‘old’ one as is evident from the information presented in the articles on this site.

  17. I didn’t read the piece. I read the comments, and now I know I don’t want to read the piece. I agree with rick. Miriam, why did you post this piece??? Do you feel some obligation to post every negative piece of dirt out there? There is a balance that I think is lacking on this blog. We are to guard our hearts, and the way we do that is by filtering what we see, hear, read. We are commended to think on those things which are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of a good report; and why don’t you, Miriam, find some virtue and praise to report on this blog, which will edify and encourage the people of God?

Comment by Edie Chill | September 10, 2008

  18. Word&SpiritTester:

As mentioned in previous articles, it is not about what the AOG is a whole believes as many individual AOG churches and their flocks have embraced the NAR and Latter Rain and dominionism – including, but not only, Stephen Strader…

There are also varying degrees of embracing as well, so for instance while some AOG churches think they reject Latter Rain, they do not reject third wave spiritual warfare, intercession or spiritual mapping or all Latter Rain ideas or the NAR manifestations, nor do they reject the NAR prophets or their NAR revivals – they may not even realise these ideas are NAR/Latter Rain as it is so insiduous and infectious. Furthermore some AOG pastors do no know what Latter Rain really is so do not know they are embracing it!

To infer that all AOGs tow the party doctrinal line is absolutely not the truth, so stop spreading this.

Many, many churches and Christians are Latter Rain dominionist orientated without even realising it.

  19. Edie:

If you do not want to even read it that says much about your interest in truth and balance. If you do not see the potential dangers with a dominionist getting into power, at the same time the NAR is stepping up a gear, then you do not understand the NAR or its agendas.

How can you ask me ‘why’ I post something and criticise me, if you do not even bother reading what I write or post? That is ridiculous! IF you read it you would see it is a fair article on the NAR, that if anything is way too soft.

Feel free to vote with your blinkers on, but I for one will have no part of it.

If you cannot see the virtue or the edification or encouragement or praiseworthiness in being warned about an immenant danger about to strike your land, then God help you!

  20. Dear Word&SpiritTester:

Thanks for the AofG links – did the leadership eventually adopt Resolution 16, or just put it on hold? As someone who worked in an AofG church in the 1990’s I can attest to the fact that we had many of the same doctrines and speakers and conferences which promoted rehashed and repackaged Latter Rain teaching. I think the modus operandi of the NAR is to use the cover of ‘revival’ and ‘unity’ to invade and take authority over existing pastors and churches rather than to start its own denomination. AofG and other churches’ leadership should be aware of this and act to ban their member churches from inviting, participating or affiliating with these ’superapostles’ ministries. “A little leaven” indeed!

As for Palin’s connection with these teachings – it is extremely troubling to see fellow Christians fall for the GOP’s pandering to the Religious Right. Didn’t we learn anything from the 2000 election? Bush ran as an evangelical Christian – and see what we got…

    :(

  21. What people need to watch out for, and I mean REALLY watch out for, is the “Independent” Assemblies of God. They were formed (as was said prior on their webpage) 2 or 3 years after AG, but when I inquired with someone about this, the date “magically” changed to a date BEFORE the AG was established. Now, logically speaking, how can a group that is “independent” of another same named group be in existence before? Regardless of dates, they were formed in rebellion. And you can count on their embracing doctrines that AG calls heresy.

    Comment by Kathy | September 10, 2008

  22. It is entirely possible to be “in” (Member, baptized, etc.) a church that is completely into error, and either not be fully aware of what is REALLY going on there, or not be completely subscribed to it. I think that many believers are not fully aware of what their churches / assemblies stand for (or what the leadership stands for) and go along from week to week thinking that everything is just find in doctrine-land.

I say this from experience … I was in a church that I now realize is seriously into error, but I (Lazily, like many) never took the time to look at what was right in front of me and compare it to scripture. When I did, the Lord saw fit that the blinders fell off. But as I look back, I realize that there a huge number of people that are in the same place I was … too consumed with everything else in life to look at the truth. I am hoping that Sarah Palin is in the same place, and not an active subscriber to the error that is so prevalent these days.

  24. *Mariam, you do not have to let this be posted–it might be better IF YOU DON’T. AHA..I might just have needed to let off steam on this topic…

    Quote…

If you do not see the potential dangers with a dominionist getting into power, at the same time the NAR is stepping up a gear, then you do not understand the NAR or its agendas.

    End Quote…

Mariam, I agree. Just my opinion, but I can’t see this as being a coincidence.

I’m not referring to any one comment above, but can I say that the heated defense concerning some very reliable facts, which are emerging about this one particular candidate, who up until 2 weeks ago hardly no one outside of the State of Alaska had even heard of– reminds me of the early days when some of the Christian bloggers were posting researched facts and warnings concerning the Lakeland ‘outpouring’ and Todd Bentley, as they were coming across them.

At that time normally well-balanced Christians went on the attack against ANYONE who ‘dared’ to report anything negative about the outpouring and Bentley: being castigated publicly, day after day in comments left across the blogosphere: and in some instances, in personal emails, if the blogger happened to have a contact page/email address up on their blog. I know because it happened to me and I’m sure it happened to Mariam.

What is it about looking at research or even facts, or at the least giving it serious consideration before calling ‘foul’, that is so hard to do?

What stops the normal discerning Christian (on any other topic) from wanting to even consider there may be a connection between Palin’s theology and the NRA/Joel’s Army, etc dangerous teachings?

In my humble opinion its the same as the Lakeland/Bentley mess–and why many believers became outraged, angry beyond reason, attacking anyone who ‘dared’ to present facts when the truth started coming out; They did not want to accept it, because they feared the truth.

Why? Because truth has a way of making us jump on the defensive, for we know as Christians once we’re forced to look at it we have no excuse if we do not accept it: and we can offer no excuse to God if we continue to cling to the fantasies and lies which were fed to us on the issue–WHATEVER that issue is.

Tragically many would rather stay blind, stopping short of doing any research themselves (and ignore or attack anyone who did take the time)just so they can defend keeping their Golden Calf.

Mariam, hang in there…your research and work is deeply appreciated.

You do some good work here. I want you to know that, as a child, and well into young adulthood, I attended charismatic churches and AoG churches. However, it would grossly unfair for anyone to ascribe what happened in those churches to me or what I believe today.

Sarah Palin attends Wasilla Bible Church. Here is a list of their “Core Commitments.” They include the Centrality of Christ, Authority of Scripture, Priority of Prayer, Authenticity in our Spiritual Life, and Community in our Congregational Life.

I would be interested in hearing which, if any, of these beliefs you find to be unscriptural.

Comment by Wyatt Roberts | September 10, 2008

  26. I wish Sarah Palin would herself come out with a statement letting the world know if she agrees with Latter Rain doctrines. Just because she may or might have attended a church that leans that way doesn’t mean she knows about that doctrine.

Believe me, I know, I was in deception for 10 years. Not until Lakeland, did I feel something was not right and started researching.

I for one am glad she posts the things she does! Even the politics!

A lot of these articles have made me to do research on things that I would have never known nothing about, such as, just how evil many of these “church leaders” are. And I get conformation on things that Holy Spirit is leading me to. Like Todd Bentley, I watched the “revival” and had checks big time and decided to look him up and was led right here, not only did it confirm things I was feeling about Bentley, but also the NAR’s from Mars, and just how much influence they have in various places.

Many people have turned their backs on these evil teachings because of the articles that have been written here, because they have learned to test things because of what they have read!

  29. endtimespropheticwords,

I stand by what I said. This is a hit piece which is now playing on Huffington Post. Please don’t try to tell me HP is fair and balanced as to this election.

As for being blind, I know all about the warts of both parties. I find the comparasion of killing babies just born and unborn with adults in war disingenuous.

One is helpless to defend itself. The other has choices.

I am not a one point voter but some things aremuch more important to me than my personal comfort.

I don’t consider anyone who is pro-life to be a saint any more than I think Obama is the Messiah, as some seem to think.

I said it was a hit piece and it is. I know this. He voted for sex education in public school from grades K-6 to 12.

This includes the homosexual lifestyle and all that it entails.

Do you for one minute think the word of God will be mentioned as to His position on that lifestyle in this open air honestly you are profess to be putting forth.

It is what it is. A first class hit piece against a believer in Christ whether you embrace her beliefs or not.

I don’t back Bob Jones, Randy Clark, Bill Johnson, Todd Bentley, Pat King or a whole host of others but I have been in the same buildings with them and in some cases was ministering along side them but I didn’t embrace them then nor now. Does that mean I am now an NAR advocate? I think not.

I have been removed as a director of a healing room center because I bucked against C. Peter Wagner and his teaching.

Again it is a hit piece being carried by HP, does that mean you personally embrace all the posts of HP and are in agreement with them?

Good for the goose is good for the gander, don’t you know.

  30. The most insidious thing about the NAR is that it is a doctrine or set of beliefs that are not Christian. It has been networked by Wagner’s NAR, but it is still a supernatural problem.

In other words, it is a doctrine of demons for the End Times.

Miriam did not post this article to attack Palin, I know this.

She did it to offer up to us the danger of unsuspecting Christians who do not test the underlying teachings at their charismatic churches.

Some one of the comments above said they had a “witness” in their spirit that Palin is free from this stuff.

Funny thing is, that type of “witness” is exactly one of the doctrines of NAR that is so subtly anti Christian.

We do not “witness” with our hearts or emotions. Isn’t that an interesting Biblical problem? Most charismatics have been taught to do this.

What is interesting about it is that this is the SAME “witness” the Mormons testify to. They claim a “burning in their heart” witness to the truth of Mormon demonic doctrines of their angel “Moroni”.

But the Bible says that “The Spirit testifieth to our spirit”.

This is the verse that causes confusion.

This means that OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORD IN OUR MINDS (NOT our hearts or emotions) testifies to the Holy Spirit.

The Greek word in Strong’s concordance for BOTH Holy “Spirit” and our own “spirit” is MINDFUL UNDERSTANDING or RATIONAL SEAT or VITAL PRINCIPLE.

It specifies that it is NOT an emotion or an animalistic feeling; NOT a “burning in the bosom” or burning in the heart.

I take the time to belabor this because Bill Hamon one of the most evil of the NAR leaders because he teaches on how to falsely prophesy with such aplomb, he and thousands of other charismatic teachers teach that we must ‘Shut down our minds” and “open our hearts” to truly witness to and understand the Lord.

This is a lie straight from Hell. We cannot fight the lies of the enemy if we are going on a feeling or an emotion or even a supernatural ’sense” in our bodies, which happens A LOT in charismatic circles.

This is the anti ‘Intellectual” lie of the leaders of the NAR. They try to convince us that it is impossible to understand God in our minds.

I’d agree we cannot possibly comprehend the God of the Universe in His entirety in our miniscule minds. However, the faith we have is what we do understand of God, and we will be accountable for that faith — and faith is believing in our MINDS who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

I will be convinced of Sarah Palin’s stand once i hear what she believes spoken or written by her.

So far, I watched the Alaska governors debate and some other vids of her.

She seems very stalwart in her faith and makes no bones about it. However, I do not know if she perceives or has taken the time to understand, the danger of the lies of the NARbots.

That is why I am happy that Miriam posted this article. I posted it myself on Free Republic. We posted it so that Sarah Palin — if she is ignorant of this insidious and subtle charismatic doctrine — can discern for herself and distance herself from it. McCain early on invoked John Hagee and got burned by his word of faith nonsense.

I think my real concern is that thing about “tolerating” these false teachings and teachers of the NAR, simply because they “seem” to be on the Christian side of things. I think Palin is going to get in, and I think she will eventually be President.

But she cannot go along with the NAR because of their anti Christ agendas…

I mean, remember Cindy Jacobs’ prayer for the I 35 highway that will destroy the sovereignty of the United States and help usher in a North American Union? The idea that these “prophets” of the NAR are “getting” these “revelations” from their familiar spirit demons is frightening n their political implications. Let’s not forget the June prophesy of Lakeland as THE SPECTER OF THE RED. Google it.

Palin needs to discern and distance herself from

    1. The idea of generational curses as a charismatic teaching, when Christ took upon Himself every curse for us on the Cross…. He became the curse for us.

    2. Spiritual Warfare Evangelism — praying down principalities and making declarations over rivers trees buildings mountains and cities — without ever preaching the Word to individual unbelievers. (Thanks Peter Wagner for this false doctrine.)

    3. Warring with Angels. This is not allowed in the NT. We do not command angels, God does. And “because My Kingdom is not of this world” even Jesus refused to call down warring angels to avenge His arrest at Gethsemane.

    4. Blaming demons for our various sins. There is no biblical model for various spirits of envy greed avarice gluttony blah blah blah. It is true that if a Christian opens themselves up to sin, they have come into legal agreement with the Enemy’s lies, and therefore have given place to be demonized if they continue in sin. However it is NOT true that binding demons will affect behavior, because as Christians, we have FREE WILL and have been given power over sin and death when we were born again. NAR teachings on this imply that the demons ARE TO BLAME for our sin. This is a lie.

    5. Putting prophecy on par with the Word in our hearts. Most charismatics have received “promises” or prophecies about their personal lives. This is mostly a good thing. However, true prophesy will always help encourage us by a. pointing out our individual propensity for sin that inhibits our walk with Christ and b. will always be verified by the Word itself. NAR charismatic thought on prophecy distances us from taking personal prophesy to the Word for discernment and teaches that we should stand on these “personal prophecies” INSTEAD OF STANDING ON THE WORD OF GOD!

(Thanks Bill Hamon for this major deception.)

    6. There will be some tangible, physical “aura” or halo or transfiguration of our physical countenance as we become more like Christ. This is a weird part of William Branham’s Manifest Sons of God teachings. No where in the Bible does it say that we will be changed (before the Second Coming) in our physical bodies so that unbelievers can perceive a “halo” on our heads, or see something on us physically (gold dust anyone?) that will show that we are Christians. This does not exclude specific miracles, Jesus was transfigured on the Mount of Olives in front of Peter etc., but this is really the NARbots showing how freakin’ lazy they are and how unwilling they are to actually WITNESS to unbelievers with the Gospel. They would rather be “seen” as “gods” and supernaturally transformed so unbelievers just bow down before them. “They shall know Him by our love for one another”. They shall not ‘know Him’ because we have sprouted intercessor’s halos.

In any case, they crucified Jesus. “He was without beauty, nothing to be thought of as handsome in our eyes” If we are to follow the NAR line of reasoning, Jesus would have been transfigured on the Cross and then, suddenly, all the unbelievers and PHarisees would “Know” that He was God and take Him down from the Cross…

In other words, this is nonsense that we will be transfigured as a way to evangelize.

    7. Worship as a substitute for teaching the Word. The whole idea of worship in a lot of NAR influenced churches is that it becomes the centerpiece of the church service. People are taught to “soak” endlessly “in His presence” but then, the Word is not taught and taught in a way to be understood. This goes back to the problem of “Minds shut, spirits open” — which is actually a dangerous New Age practice. We are to meditate upon the Word in our understanding of it. This is related to the problem of true spiritual warfare…

    8. A stronghold is NOT a random gathering of demons over a geographical place. One of the things in this Palin article talks about a “spirit of witchcraft” over a city. Now, of course, we can bind a demon or cast out demons. But the problem with NAR teachings is that we are taught to just bind a list of demons without understanding WHY that demon has place over a city. The reason WHY that demon of witchcraft has place over a city is because the people in that city ARE PRACTICING WITCHCRAFT. So , when you sin by practicing witchcraft, you invite demonic hosts.

But instead of the NAR teaching us that we must individually go in and disentangle the lies of the enemy concerning witchcraft off of individual people — they teach just to bind the demon. This is slothful, wishful evangelizing and was NEVER TAUGHT by JESUS.

If so, why didn’t Jesus just “bind the spirit of adultery” off the woman at the well in Samaria? He didn’t do that because that is not what true evangelizing or witnessing is all about. He went in and saw her sin, called her out in love and ministered to her. THAT IS THE TRUE MODEL OF EVANGELIZING FOR CHRISTIANS. Not sitting around “binding principalities” while never touching an unbeliever.

    9. The world can infect us with demons. This is another lovely idea of the NAR. While the Lord tells us not to be conformed to the world, we are also to be in the world, carrying our Cross and bringing the Gospel to the Lost. But the NAR is so demon focussed, part of how they fool charismatics is by sayign that we can “pick up” demons off people like germs. This is NUTS. We can only ‘pick up demons” if we come into MINDFUL AGREEMENT WITH ACTS OF SIN that gives Satan legal right to come in.

These are only 9 practices of NAR charismatic churches that I can think of off the top of my head. Sarah Palin has undoubtedly encountered some of them.
I am sure there are hundreds more of these non-Christian practices that truly do infect the Charismatic body of Christ.

Sarah Palin needs to distance herself from them for her own sake and if she is elected, for ours.

I also attended a NAR church 2 yrs ago with friends to do the same, now if ANYBODY posted that I was involved with these two churches because I attended or was ’seen’ there, well fool them, and how destructive to my character.
Sarah because of her position alone will not ignore her
Alaskan residents, as she represents them all, and she

-How many churches are there to choose from in a town of 9,000 in our 49th state?
-Discernment wasn’t my choice of ‘gifts’…. but i live with it. Agonized greatly over the Lakeland farce from day one. Still struggle with my negative feelings towards anyone who thinks Lakeland is(was) of God.
-Delighted to see there are folks also with a low tolerance of dominating, self-agrandizing, money grabbing ‘christian’ craziness going on in America – from NARS, to Charismatics to Fundamentalists … HOWEVER, i don’t stomach bashing either. It feels like ‘the enemy’ are ‘them’ monsters out there … not mere kith and kin… just folks, misguided though they be… and have misled many trusting folks… but they are people whom God loves. Loved enough to have died for them. I think there must be a more constructive way to deal with our wayward sisters and brothers than this constant impersonalized bashing. It feels to me akin to the mentality that motivated the Crusades.
-We’re in great trouble in this land… but our energy (toward our so called ‘enemies’) is better served on our knees than blaming and shaming on our computers.
-Once i heard of a doctor active in his area with the abortion issue. He relocated and began to be involved in a new local prolife group. One day he was asked if he’d be involved in a local demonstration against a new abortion clinic. He said ‘NO’… Then he told them that where he’d come from they didn’t need to demonstrate. “We closed three abortion clinics on our knees.”

  36. I am concerned about the scare tactics surrounding Sarah Palin. I am much more terrified at the thought of Obama getting in office than of Sarah and her AoG background. Quite frankly, we all should be. Obama with his communist and socialist mentors, his radical, racist, palestine sympathizing, muslim supporting pastor whom he sat under for 20 years, his buddy William Ayers “Wish I bombed more.”

When people clearly blinded by the devil, those far left liberals, people living in sin, people with no moral compass – like corrupt and evil hollywood (come on, truly there are no people living in greater darkness having given their lives over to the devil and demonic spirits), when the Muslim world as well as the rest of the world – who have largely rejected God – when all these God hating people are supporting Obama – doesn’t that raise some red flags? I am not scared of any radical christian organizations weird as some may be. I do think we need to wisely fear the radically muslims who do want to annihilate us. They want Obama as the pres! Why? This doesn’t concern you? Everyone I personally know that supports Obama is living in complete darkness. They do not know God at all. I am more concerned about their lack of judgment having been completely blinded by the god of this world. I don’t suspect that they will ever be able to make a good and Godly decision for the country. and funny how the Godless and God haters are the ones so rabidly attacking Sarah Palin. The media is corrupt too… they hate God, they hate Christians, they hate Sarah Palin. Hello folks, this should tell us something. I am not saying she is perfect or a perfect Christian. Are any of us? I guarantee you we all have some doctrine wrong here or there, God still loves us and uses us. I think we need to be careful about demonizing Sarah Palin. I think we need to wake up and realize that yes there is a battle of good and evil going on and the evil side is clearly on the side of ONE guy this election.

  37. Geri:

With respect this is a Christian blog with a strong interest in watching the dominionist NAR apostolic prophetic movement. Most people know that Obama or Clinton is not a Christian, other than in lip service, and he is not overtly connected with the NAR dominionists – and thus I do not see much if any need to cover his religion – this is not a political blog! Sarah Palin is involved in the NAR apostolic prophetic movement – hence my interest. Go figure why there are then so many articles then on this! It is not just Palin but who she ties in with. People need to have their eyes open.

I am not biased to any one candidate. Obama has issues too, and it may well be the choice between the devil and the deep blue sea as to who comes into office….

But what I absolutely hate, and I repeat it, is the blind faith that says that someone who is a Christian (even if they are genuinely one) makes the best candidate. And if “spirit filled” then it is heaven on earth! I can think of events from history where a ‘prophetic’ political movement and candidate resulted in horror and failure (and many deaths) such as the anabaptist Jan de Leiden incident in Munster – look it up if you need to, I have been aiming to do a post on it and other similar crusades for months, including failed stuff linked to the Great Awakening dominionists linked to Whitefield and the civil war, but not had the time yet…

It is not just about so-called ‘core beliefs’ – as you should know. Many churches that loved Todd Bentley and shook, rattled and rolled to the NAR prophets and Lakeland type fiascos would have similar ’sound’ statements and manifestos. It is more about the added on beliefs or the distortion and different interpretation that some churches add onto these words.

Furthermore, various articles have linked Sarah Palin to continued and ongoing involvement in various other churches. So even if the Wasilla Bible church was perfect, there is continued NAR influence from other sources – eg Thomas Muthee ‘praying over’ Sarah Palin and entreating God to “make a way” prior to Palin’s successful bid for the Alaska …

You know I do not have a problem with prophecy per se at all. But when that prophet is linked to the false dominionist NAR and George Otis spritual mapping etc then I do have a problem…

But just because THEY print them and use them in their ‘outing’ of her, does not mean that WE should stay silent on these very same issues, any more than if they were outing her corruption or anything else of concern – it is pure hypocisy otherwise and blind faith. Dominionism is very dangerous, and much more is stake here than unborn babies.

  43. If Huffington Post has this article or not, we are thinking Charismatics need to remember that the Lord will judge the church FIRST.

Judgment comes first to the house of God.

So, this is a benefit to Sarah Palin to get her beliefs in order; i.e. judge for herself where she is at with her faith.

In my opinion, I don’t think she has had time to deal with these issues.
Running a family and running Alaska seem like 24/7 jobs.

So, this is actually a FAVOR done for her to expose this stuff now.

She needs to KEEP DISTANCE from the NARbots and GOD TV and TBN.

Even if Sarah Palin were to be running for president, as with all presidents, she would only have as much power as congress allowed. With the D group majority we have, and the rampant seething hatred of anything sounding even close to Christian, I doubt seriously she could cause us all to become members of the ICA or NAR.I myself have within the last few months left a church because of the involvement with those groups, but I am not the devil, if anything I have become closer to my Saviour, Jesus, because of it and am awed by His mercy toward me.I also have become a more responsible Christian to “study to show myself approved…”. This is quite a conundrum!!

Sarah Palin was baptised as a Catholic when she was born. When she became born again at age 12 in the Assemblies of God Church she was scripturally baptized. Her infantile baptism is meaningless and doesn’t count. Her baptism after she became saved means everything.

Unless you ask Mrs Palin what she believes you do not know. I have attended a lot of Churches where I did not agree with some of the teachings/doctrines of the Church. How do you know that that is not the case with her? You are applying the guilt by association principle to Mrs. Palin and that is unfair to her.

  48. I, for one, am glad that you’ve pointed this out, Miriam. Like IndependentConservative mentioned in his reporting of this, it took people on the right to shine a light on Jeremiah Wright, and it seems it’s taken people on the left (The Huffington Post) to get people to cast a discerning eye on Sarah Palin.

While HP does have an interest in posting this, there’s a lot of info to chew on: some good, some rotten. In looking at the actual Statement of Faith of Palin’s *current* church http://wasillabible.org/statement%20of%20faith.htm and a list of recent sermons, just on the surface they look more stable and biblical than a lot of “non-denominational” churches (at least, more stable than ones the Lord has delivered ME out of). They seem to focus on expository preaching through the Word, hold to the authority of scripture, the Trinity, etc. This is just from a brief perusal of their webpage, though – someone who’s listened to the sermons, attended for a length of time, etc would know more.

While her ties to Wasilla AG church and their wholesale promotion of Rick Joyner are a reason for concern, I’m personally willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and just say she doesn’t realy know any better, and doesn’t seem to be involved there beyond the occasional stump-speach. I’m still not excited about or over motivated to vote for McCain/Palin, but I’m a little more at ease than I first was upon seeing the video of her speach at Wasilla AG passed through my email as “a Word for this hour! Her pastor prophesied over her!! She’s anointed of God!” *blech*

If nothing else, if this coverage happens to warn even one more person about the unbiblical notions of Rick Joyner and Lou Engle, I say it will have served it’s purpose. Even if it’s for the wrong motive (HP hoping to smear someone politically), truth proclaimed (warning about the NAR) is still truth proclaimed.

Bless you, Miriam, and thank you for your dilligent efforts for the Body of Christ!

  49. Wow Rickie!

Hit piece? Overreacting a bit I’d say, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it must be wearing lipstick, right? Huffington Post is an outgrowth of people on the right not behaving in a truthful way. Take the Plank out of Drudge Limabaugh and your own eye…

You are correct in saying you are not blind, you know precisely what you are doing. You have a one track mind, anyone who will not walk the plank with you on your one commandment platform is ungodly. The usually, if you are not a jaded simpleton, heartbreaking decision by a woman (In sin, and wrong)one time in her life versus years of dropping bombs on strangers is a horrible comparison. The warmonger/profiteers are in multiple positions worse in their sins. I have seen the toll of both the war and the decision of abortion, as have you. Your lack of candor is your blind spot, disingenuousness, in your case is found in the nearest mirror

Your claim “One is helpless to defend itself. The other has choices” is patently absurd, both sets of people being killed have no choice in the matter, did you get caught up in the moment or did your reflection get the better of you?

You further state: “I am not a one point voter but some things aremuch more important to me than my personal comfort.” Name me the last pro lifer you voted for, and are still happy with the choice.

And claiming that people consider Obama the Messiah, didn’t mommy tell you that just cuz the other kids are doing it doesn’t make it alright for you? Turn Hannity off. He is infecting you (all said with a warm smile).

In case you haven’t figured it out, America is being introduced to us. The people who make up the middle and watch American Idol as their religion are seeing what we are and what we are about. Let’s put our best foot forward. Love Sarah as our sister, and acknowledge that it may look a bit kooky to you and she may not have a very big tool box from which she works, and finally if you think her resume is too thin to support her and McCain, we will still love you, and welcome you to our churches.

What I am hearing is anyone likes Obama is a sinner consigned to hell. This is not only wrong, it is wrong and IMHO not what Jesus would ask us to do.

He (Obama) has asked that children be told if an adult touches you in a different manner to tell mom and dad, teacher and neighbors. I’ll bet you there are a LOT of catholic families that would have like to have had their children told this long ago…

What are you on about the Gays for? Are you going to lock them up? Burn em at the stake? Force them into genital neutering? Let’s just keep praying and have them walk proudly into our churches instead of the bath-houses of America.

Yeah, I think Obama knows and loves the word of God.
    So Does John McCain.

Not a hit piece, not a very good report on how we have policed ourselves as a faith either.

You also said “I don’t back Bob Jones, Randy Clark, Bill Johnson, Todd Bentley, Pat King … Does that mean I am now an NAR advocate?” I think you are one of the good ones for what it’s worth, at least you have passion. I ask you open up and realize we are allowed to differ, and must all follow the entire Bible, not just the “book of Abortions NKJV”

Ten high fives and five pats on the back for standing up to Mr. Wagner. If your ground was firm it will bear great fruit.

If we hold our leaders accountable, and walk in the word of God and the Bible, the Huffington Post cannot and will not harm us. It will at that point become information, or trash, and will be seen as such. I have seen much of both on that, and many other sites.

Bless you. Have a great day.

  50. DEAR ETPW:

The only troubling thing I’ve seen on Sarah Palin’s PERSONAL faith is that call she made for “revival to come to Alaska”…

Since this elusive and sometimes NAR backed idea of “revival” is what snuckered and finally sunk my own pastor (when he thought his promised “revival” had finally come at Lakeland), could you please explain for me and everyone else if this is indeed a Biblical idea for the last days –

    – Or is it just some phony Branham, Paul Cain demonic concoction?

Palin’s entry into the public consciousness is no coincidence and also, in my mind at least, no coincidence that it came in on the tails of the dustbowl of corruption and trickery about the Lakeland “revival”.

As I now recall, Palin made her statement in early June about revival…

Could she (horrors) have believed or been referencing the Lakeland “revival” that was then under full sway?

Please God don’t let that be so.

  53. EG’s comment:

“…When people clearly blinded by the devil, those far left liberals, people living in sin, people with no moral compass – like corrupt and evil hollywood (come on, truly there are no people living in greater darkness having given their lives over to the devil and demonic spirits)…”

    Dear EG:

The above quote about people ‘in Hollywood” is emblematic of the ignorant Christian mindset that starts to tolerate the NAR.

Most of the people in Hollywood are UNSAVED. Christians have made little impact in Hollywood because the born agains I know in the business think that because they speak to the most High God in their prayers, that automatically they will be able to out-write, out-direct out-act and out-wit the prevailing powers-that-be in the creative melting pot of Hollywood.

And these Christians have found out that because they think themselves so “morally and spiritually superior” to those unsaved who run Hollywood, they don’t realize that they have not done the prerequisite for every Christian in the business world — “excellent work brings you before Kings.”

I take some offense at this Christian anti-Hollywood attitude because I can tell you that my unsaved manager, entertainment lawyer and good friends in very high places in Hollywood have treated me more ‘morally” and with more true love and respect than the so called Christians I have recently dealt with in this death struggle in my little church over NAR issues and Lakeland.

The most evil people I have ever met in my life have been these NARbots.

They are more evil than the unsaved in Hollywood, who seem practically innocent next to the demonic witchery I’ve witnessed lately.

Even tonight, with a huge deadline looming and a studio head waiting, I have been reprimanded by the Lord to forgive my now former Pastors and other leaders for their skullduggery, lack of love and witchcraft in the NAME OF JESUS.

Don’t kid yourself. Our goal as Christians is to show Christ to the unsaved. The AntiChrist doctrines of the NAR have constructed a hypocritical subculture of HATE within the NAR. These people are the Anti Christ army who will murder us in the name of their counterfeit Jesus, the Anti Christ. The NAR already have a system of “finking” or turning in people for their “sins” in a Jezebelic manner that is laying the groundwork for the insidious AntiChrist rule that will make the Nazis and the Soviets look sweet. Imagine people with familiar spirits attacking you and “getting information” on you! This is coming, folks.

I asked the Lord tonight, how do you forgive someone who is supposed to be nourishing the Body, preaching the word, and keeping their oath to “lay down their lives for their flock” but is acting as an emissary for Satan? And telling friends of mine when they fall on hard luck that “it is God’s judgment?” And laughing at them when they have a car accident?

I have seen “Christian” leaders in the NAR do this. And let’s not get into the “gossip” angle of Jezebel spirits in the church! It is the reason for the scripture: “I will break them with a rod of iron” — for this NAR fueled Jezebel take-over of the Church will be run by people who are seen as “prophets” but are obeying familiar demonic spirits who turn in others for their own self advancement.

It’s called “getting drunk on the blood of the saints.”

The Lord had to remind me of my own sins of betrayal and oath breaking in order for me to get a grip and forgive these Anti Christs.

I am also so sick of the old lament that “Hollywood is so evil.’ I told ETPW that I just went to the biggest A list opening of a movie last week you could imagine. At the party afterwards, let me assure you, these people need sensitive, intelligent and loving Christians to be in prayer for them and spare them from the fire. They are just… unbelievers.

The Lord actually had to remind me that one of the biggest stars you can think of that i was talking to — who knew me previously from some work I had done — was actually sensitive enough to realize I didn’t really love the film we had just seen and they were in — because I didn’t offer any flattery about it. I was wondering why the conversation ended so kind of abruptly at the end and the Lord reminded me that this person actually thought highly of me and completely noticed my lack of accolades.

I will make it up to that person, but it completly freaks me out when Christians lambast “immoral” Hollywood when the sin in the church and the blasphemy in the NAR especially stinks to high heaven and back to hell. Pray for Hollywood and pray that intelligent CHristians who understand culture –and who are not afraid of it — are elevated to authority there.

At least Hollywood is the last great meritocracy. The threat of the NAR is that the more demonized and mediocre and loveless you are, the higher you will go. Witness the brutish freakishness and piss poor Bible skills of one Todd Bentley. Or the cruel sexual perversion of Bob Jones — molesting a mother and daughter at the same time when they only went in to him for a word of encouragement. Or the sadistic rape of young men by Paul Cain who was praying over his heterosexual victims while the molestation was taking place — praying they would be healed of their homophobia by being sodomized! IF this isn’t hellish HATRED in the name of Jesus, I don’t know what is.

The excesses that only can be expected of those unsaved souls in Hollywood pale in comparison to the Satanic behavior of the NAR.

And with a final note on the NAR and Hollywood… wouldn’t cha know… false prophetess Cindy Jacobs and Che Ahn and every one of them I’ve seen out here ALL WANT TO TAKE HOLLYWOOD for their kids to “get in showbiz”. Yeah. It is a sick take on the old cliche of backstage mothers. But now they are trying to do it with witchcraft!

(As this is still the Sarah Palin thread note that her “excellent work” in relative obscurity in Alaska has quickly fulfilled the scripture ‘excellent work will bring you before Kings”. Her NAR status is yet to be verified. Her former and beloved Pastor, Paul Riley, seems unscathed by it, so there is hope.)

  55. Pat Cox –

What is wrong about not understanding her baptism is not the point!!? Who mentioned baptisms anywhere originally as being a cause for concern about her?

Do you not understand that many ’scripturally’ baptised as ‘adults’ are not saved? That many that claiming to be born again or claim to be saved are not – even in pentecostal circles? Do I really have to go over gospel ABC again?! But that is not the actual issue here.

The NAR is the concern not her baptism or even belief status as a Christian. Actually read some of the direct links with HER and the NAR and not just her church which is kind of the point of some of the documenting here – if you don’t bother reading though because you chose to blind yourself (blind faith – God bless our president, must be a good Christian and must be God’s will!), then I wonder what is the point – you may as well have a monarchy ruling by ‘divine right’ and not elections.

  58. The video is correct in revealing Palin’s church is in deception regarding NAR and their dominionist agenda. It is proper to reveal that Palin was a member of this church with ties to NAR. I don’t care for the cut and paste of Joyner and that form of charismania as it suggests that Palin and the Wasilla church believes and practices the same type of charismania.

Palin attending a church in Juneau could have effectively helped her to see some things in a different light. These are things we just don’t know yet. For that reason, prayers for Palin are in order that she could indeed be another Esther raised up for such a time as this. (It was only when I heard Sheets openly begin teaching his dominionist views that I finally understood where he and NAR where coming from. Many, I believe are still in the dark regarding their dominionist views.)

I support ETPW warning readers of Palin’s connections to NAR since we know that ‘demons are going forth to all the rulers of the world with signs to gather them together…’

I expect Josephs, Daniels, Esthers and Nicodemus’ to be raised up by God in these last days. If we remain in the Holy Spirit and in His Word, we will know who speaks for God and who doesn’t.

Let us pray that a spirit of wisdom and revelation is given to God’s leaders in gov, whomever they are, but let us stay awake and be on the alert….for the antichrist is even now readying to be revealed as God removes His restrainer. As I understand it, ALL rulers will be deceived and all the world will follow the beast.

  70. Vince.

    Your differences are noted.

Can anyone just walk into your church and start preaching over your preacher? Your argument that anyone has dominion over anyone as long as they are speaking God’s truth’s is even kookier than the thought of Sara Palin speaking in tongues and breaking into this uncontrolled laughter while she is being sworn in. Court will not likely be your destination, a mental health institution is a more apt destination.

Let me explain it to you. My wife is a school teacher with an almost perfect memory of the Bible. I do not want her or anyone teaching God in school. I will take care of that at home. Period. To teach against the Bible I will not stand for, like you.

Liberal Schliberal, cut it out, I am an awesome man of God and an American and a citizen of this planet.

If you cannot recall the first day of your walk, and contrast it to today, and realize that you are lightyears further than your first day, then you are part of the problem of why people will not join our walk. Come down off your perch. Be one of many. Not an elitist.

Deluded? I am a Born again Christian who lives as Francis of Assisi remarked. Preach the Gospel at all times…you know the rest.

I am at Peace with my decision to choose Obama clearly over McCain. I see a very feeble man in many regards. There are very few 72 year olds I will hire to do much of import.

SOJOURNERS MAGAZINE? Haven’t got any more time, pray for a 28 hour day? As always, be careful what you pray for.

Left Leaning? I try to align the candidates positions with the Bible. John Edwards policies were the closest, but because of abject hatred by people like you of liberals, you cannot see past the end of your nose if they are called liberals.

I am angry about the occupation, the war has been over for years, remember the “Mission Accomplished” banners and GI Joe President Bush with the photo op? The war was ridiculous, Iraq was not going to invade the USA. It was a handfull of nutjobs with a Satanically brilliant David vs Goliath plan. According to Bushco. most of them have been rounded up.

My Grandfather was in WWII and my son is in Baghdad today. My Uncle was in Viet Nam. End your hatred of people you percieve left or liberal. I learn from both sides. Just consider our attacking Iraq was wrong. Your trying to pin Hitler on me is close to, if not sinful.

Re: doublespeak, I would love to listen to you teach the Bible, I further believe you are conflating the Bible to your political ends. The Bible needs to be taken as a whole. As a whole, the Bible tells me to vote for Obama.

    Bless you too.

  71. Francis of Assisi did not teach “preach the word at all times” Paul in the Bible did.

Voting for a man who knowing is for abortion is sin, sorry. There is at least a hope that McCain’s Christian experiences in Hanoi with Jeremiah Denton (the most Christian book I have ever read) have had an effect. I think the issue with McCain’s faith is he probably spilled too much to the Vietnamese while in captivity and under torture and has probably never forgiven himself for it. He was in solitary so long that the Christian comradery of Denton and Coffee and others who would, as most Christians should know about the Hanoi Hilton/POW experience — only got through that time with prayer and praise by Morse Code tapped through the walls.

This is why back in January when most nominal Christians were for Romney and I was actually for Thompson because of McCain’s illegal immigrant stance — when I looked up at McCain on the podium next to Huck, Thompson, Romney et all, and remembered how this man was TORTURED to the point of physical deformity for his country and refused to be sent home because of his father’s status in the Navy — I’m sorry — I burst out crying — because

McCain looks older than his years and of course his arms and one leg is deformed because the Vietnamese did not set his broken arms and leg correctly and would hammer the broken limbs as part of his daily torture routine.

Any Christian who has not done their homework on McCain’s captivity is missing a story of faith. I even have come to the conclusion that these Americans were standing in a time warp of intercession for the country, unaware of the changes the “hippie” generation was working on the culture by the time of their release in the next decade. Indeed, Denton, who was shot down in 1964, and did not get released until 1973 I believe, was astonished at the changes in the country during their time of captivity.

To vote for a man who was a disciple of Saul Alinisky like Obama as a Christian is the height of hypocrisy. “Community Activism” is a form of cell group Marxism preached by Alinsky. Alinsky dedicated his book on political activism to —LUCIFER.

Watch it Jeff. My family is military too. Older stepdad in the Army when the bombs fell on Pearl Harbor, and was also at DDAY. Bro is an Iraq/Afghan vet who now teaches at that venerable institution on the Hudson. If you understand so much about the military, then you should know how the Clinton’s sold our nuclear secrets to the Chinese in exchange for election money and how Clinton denuded the CIA during the late nineties, setting us up very pretty for 9/11. Clinton rendered the US impotent from an espionage angle. We still have not recovered.

McCain’s centrist stand should be much more appealing to you than the stand of a maybe ‘On the downlow” Obama, who worked for a Communist front group and who, like Bill Clinton who also idolized Saul Alinsky, thinks that the way to be a Commander in Chief is as an “Activist President”.

OBama said so yesterday. He is a nightmare. I’ll afraid despite Palin’s iffy stance on the Apostolic Prophetic Cult, McCain had my Christian vote before she was on the ticket.

Believe me I know what I am talking about with McCain. Show yourself approved and do the homework. He is too modest to really push his biography now. He does not trade on it.

As for Iraq Bush had bad CIA intel. They didn’t even have Arab translators in place. Our collective lack of understanding of the intelligence world as Americans on Iraq is astounding. Bush is foolish but the CIA has tripped up Presidents before with their hubris. The Bay of Pigs is another CIA intel disaster. Thank God JFK got better intel the next year to get him the upper hand in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Figure out Saul Alinsky and you’lll know who to vote for in a few weeks, Jeff.

  72. Jeff, JOHN EDWARDS WAS THE CANDIDATE WHOSE POLICIES MOST CLOSELY LINED UP WITH THE BIBLE??!! Truly trying to discuss this with you would be like trying to tell Karl Marx that communism is bad!! I assure you that you are one of the many!! And no Im not up on a perch and dont think Im better than anyone, however regardless of that RIGHT IS RIGHT, and WRONG IS WRONG, in case you dont know it your bible is full of such things!! By the way your first paragraph makes absolutely NO SENSE!! Just as most people who are wrong do you take my words out of context because you cant deal with the topic of conversation!! I may have overstepped my bounderies with the Hitler remark and for that I apoligize! Having said that, do you think the apostle Paul would have said for gays to PROUDLY WALK INTO OUR CHURCHES!! If you believe this you are truly misguided and are reading the bible from a one world religious slant and will fit right in with the coming apostasy! Do I say to turn our back on anyone who wants to REPENT, NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!! But to have anyone PROUDLY WALK IN WHILE SINNING MEANS WE ARE NOT DOING OUR JOB AS CHRISTIANS!!! Is the Francis of Assisi the same one who had stigmata? What gospel was he preaching and what gospel are you preaching? It seems to me that you are preaching a be whoever you are and just come to JESUS and He will except you as you are and everything will be fine, you dont have to repent, you dont have to ask forgiveness, just come to JESUS. If you are not teaching this I apoligize for my assumption, if you are teaching this you are DEAD WRONG!!! And by the way you accuse me of HATRED, I DO NOT HATE ANYONE, I do however hate many actions taken by people whether LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE!! Is not your accussing me of hatred also sinful? Enough said! GOD BLESS!!

  73. Well said, Vince. John the Baptist said “REPENT and be baptized.” I believe “repent” means to do an about-face and turn from our sin. The hateful thing about sin is that it keep us from the Lord when we presume upon His mercy without turning from our sin. Would Jesus have had to go to the cross if all we had to do is come to Him? I think not. Blessings

Arisemylove: John McCain admitted in a recent interview, or was it a documentary about him on CNN, to have had an affair with Cindy while he was married and did not seem repentant about it and merely dismissed this as something that happened in his past, (and afterall they were separated already, according to Cindy anyway.)

Is this Christianity and a showing of the fruit of repentance? Isn’t this sin too?

Just like Todd Bentley. Ted Haggard. Same ploys.

I have no problem with your respect and admiration in voting for John McCain. I have great disdain, and call you charlatans for calling me a sinner for voting for Obama.

  78. Jeff>>>”Liberal Schliberal, cut it out, I am an awesome man of God and an American and a citizen of this planet.”

Wow, you’re awesome? Think a little highly of yourself, eh? you use a word that is only reserved for God, not you or any other person on this earth. A “citizen of the planet.” Why don’t we all just break out and sing We are The World or Kumbaya together! Oh and yes, I do think you are a liberal.

Arise and vince did nothing but give you truth. You are doing a tactic of trying to turn something around and making them look like the guilty ones.

you accuse them of supporting “killers and murderers.” What do you call it when a baby is shredded in a mothers’ womb?! Compassion! you call the real chrisitans here charlatans because they do not tremble in their boots for your beliefs. YOU are the charlatan! And I have great disdain for your kind!

  79. Jeff, for my curiosity please tell me in what ways Edwards and Obama are in line with the bible, and do you believe there is more than one path to Heaven as Mr. Obama does? And by the way Mr. Obama put the C in CHARLATAN! Also I do not support killers as you put it, but I could ask you did you support the murders of innocent Iraqi people at the sadistic hands of Sadam and sons, or do you think that that is propaganda. One more thing, I havent seen any points you have made showing that your candidate is in line with the bible!! Not one place have I called you a sinner, do you have a guilty conscience about your choice for president? You Jeff need to do a little more homework on Americas enemies and what thier intentions are for each and every free person on this planet! They want you dead or muslim, and they are cramming that garbage down thier childrens throats daily! What do Iraqis see of Americans? They see the opposite of what they are being taught by muslim clarics! They see soldiers who for the most part are kind to them who share thier food with them, who help hurting children, and on occassion sneak a bible to them so they can learn the truth instead of the continuous lies they have been fed by thier religious leaders. I have to honestly say I dont understand why we are trying to teach a people about freedom who probably dont have a good grasp of it, but if through all of this there are several thousand people who have come to know JESUS and be saved then it is all worth it!!! Im sorry Jeff I absolutely do not understand where you are coming from, and probably should leave it right here. GOD BLESS!!

Christian Fundamentalism Permeates the Republican Party: Sarah Palin’s links to the Christian Right. A Taliban on the move!

Some days ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following her Vice Presidential acceptance speech, viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters according to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey. The self-described ‘hockey mom’’s poll ratings, if they are to be believed, are that of a rock superstar who is rated now higher than either McCain or Democrat Obama. The same Bush-Cheney propaganda apparatus that made the nation believe that Saddam Hussein was the new Hitler and that Georgia was a helpless victim of ruthless Russian aggression after 8.8.08 in Georgia is clearly behind one of the most impressive media propaganda efforts in recent history—the effort to package Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska for less than 19 months, to be the American dream candidate. Her religious roots are something she has been deliberately vague about. It’s worth a closer look.

As I discuss in some detail in my soon-to-be-released book, Full Spectrum Dominance: Totalitarian Democracy in the New World Order, one of the most significant transformations of American domestic politics over the past three decades since the early 1970’s, when George H.W. Bush was head of the CIA, has been the deliberate manipulation of significant segments of the population, most of them undoubtedly sincere believing people, around the ideology of ‘born-again’ evangelical Christian Fundamentalism to create something known as the Christian Right. Within the broad spectrum of fundamentalist denominations there are some currents which are particularly alarming. Sarah Palin comes out of such a milieu.

The phenomenon of the rapid spread within the United States since the 1980’s of evangelical Pentecostalism is a political phenomenon which has become so influential that the two elections of George W. Bush as well as countless races for Senate or Congress often depend on the backing or lack of it from the organized Religious Right.

The spawning of some Christian Right sects also creates an ideology to drive the shock troops willing to literally ‘die for Christ’ in places such as Iraq or Afghanistan, Iran or elsewhere that the Pentagon needs their services. That ideology has been used to build a fanatical activist base within the Republican Party which backs a right-wing domestic agenda and a military foreign policy that sees Islam or other suitable opponents of the US power elite as Satanism incarnate. How does Sarah Palin fit into this?

The CNP: manipulating religion to political ends

Many of the religious evangelical groups in America are coordinated top-down by a secretive organization called the Committee on National Policy. Former close Bush adviser, Rev. Ted Haggard, was a member of the Committee on National Policy until a sex and drugs scandal forced him out in late 2006.

Haggard was Pastor of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs described as the ‘evangelical Vatican,’ and was head of the National Association of Evangelicals. Ted Haggard was also a member of a highly significant and little-understood sect known as Joel’s Army or the Manifest Sons of God, the same circles which spawned Sarah Palin.

Another noteworthy member of the CNP as was Grover Nyquist, the man once described as the ‘Field Marshall of the Bush Plan.’

The CNP, created in the early 1980’s during the Reagan era, is the nexus for several odd and quite powerful organizations. It was described by ABC’s Marc J. Ambinder as ‘the conservative version of the Council on Foreign Relations.’ CNP Members include names such as General John Singlaub, shipping magnate J. Peter Grace, Texas billionaire Nelson Bunker Hunt, Edwin J. Feulner Jr of the right-wing Heritage Foundation, Rev. Pat Robertson of the Christian Broadcasting Network, Jerry Falwell, Tim LaHaye and most of the prominent names in the Christian Right around Bush. It has included prominent politicians including Senator Trent Lott, Senator Don Nickles, former Attorney General Ed Meese, Col. Oliver North of Iran-Contra fame, and Right-wing philanthropist Else Prince, mother of Erik Prince, the founder of Blackwater the controversial private security firm.1

CNP members have also included not only the Rev. Sun Myung Moon Unification Church, definitely a bizarre formation whose founder openly states that he is superior to Christ. The CNP as well reportedly includes the Church of Scientology.2

CNP member and GOP strategist, Gary Bauer, links both. Bauer’s Family Research Council was a signatory of the Scientology Pledge to remove psychology from California schools and replace it with L. Ron Hubbard’s Dianetics. Bauer was also a speaker at Sun Myung Moon’s Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Conference in 1996.

Religious researchers Paul and Phillip Collins describe the CNP as follows: ‘The CNP appears to be a creation of factions of the power elite designed to mobilize well-meaning Christians to unwittingly support elite initiatives. The CNP could also be considered a project in religious engineering that empties Christianity of its metaphysical substance and re-conceptualizes many of its principles and concepts according to the socially and politically expedient designs of the elite. These contentions are supported by the fact that many CNP members are also members of other organizations and/or criminal enterprises that are tied directly to the power elite.’3

In order to shape public debate over the course of national military and foreign as well as domestic policy, the US establishment had to create mass-based organizations to manipulate public opinion in ways contrary to the self-interest of the majority of the American people. The Committee on National Policy was formed to be a central part of this mass manipulation.

The Committee on National Policy is a vital link between multi-billion dollar defense contractors, Washington lobbyists like the convicted felon and Republican fundraiser, Jack Abramoff, and the Christian Right. It’s at the heart of a new axis between right-wing military politics, support for the Pentagon war agenda globally and the neo-conservative political control of much of US foreign and defense policy.

The CNP has been at the center of Karl Rove’s carefully-constructed Bush political machine. Tom Delay and dozens of top Bush Administration Republicans are or had been members of the CNP. Few details about the organization are leaked to the public. As secretive as the Bilderberg Group if not more so, the CNP releases no press statements, meets in secret and never reveals names of its members willingly.

The elite circles behind the Bush Presidency have crafted an extremely powerful political machine using the forces and energies of the Christian Right and millions of American Christians unaware of the darker manipulations. Is Sarah Palin a part of such darker manipulations?

    Sarah Palin and Dominionism

Sarah Palin it appears now, was chosen very carefully as she comes out of the very fundamentalist evangelical circles that the CNP uses to mobilize and shape America’s political agenda.

Palin reportedly drew early attention from state GOP leadership when, during her first mayoral campaign, she ran on an anti-abortion platform. Normally, political parties do not get involved in Alaskan municipal elections because they are nonpartisan. But once word of her evangelical views made its way to Juneau, the state capitol, state Republicans put money behind her campaign. According to researcher, Charley James, “Once in office, Palin set out to build a machine that chewed up anyone who got in her way. The good, Godly Christian turns out to be anything but.”

The religious background of Sarah Palin is not unrelated to her bid to take the nation’s second highest office. She herself has been extremely vague about that background. Given the details, it becomes clearer perhaps why.

Sarah Palin has spent more than two and a half decades of her life as a member of an Alaska church which is part of a fanatical Christian-named cult project that is sweeping across America. Palin comes out of the most radical stream of US Born-Again Evangelism known as ‘Joel’s Army,’ an offshoot of what is called Dominionism and sometimes also called the Latter Rain cult or Manifest Sons of God. The movement deliberately attempts to remain below the radar screen.

A Dominionist soldier in McCain’s Army

Sarah Palin is a product of an extreme fringe of the American Evangelical movement known variously as the Third Wave Movement, also known as the New Apostolic Reformation, or as Joel’s Army, a part of what is called Dominionism. Until 2002 according to their own website, Palin was a member of Wasilla Assembly of God with Senior Pastor Ed Kalnins. Online video clips of Palin speaking from the pulpit of this church are revealing. Curiously, between the time this article was begun on September 9th and the 11th, the video was removed without explanation:

As one researcher familiar with the history of the Third Wave Movement or Dominionism describes, ‘The Third Wave is a revival of the theology of the Latter Rain tent revivals of the 1950s and 1960s led by William Branham and others. The young generation will form ‘Joel’s Army’ to rise up and battle evil and retake the earth for God.’4

The excesses of this movement were declared a heresy in 1949 by the General Council of the Assemblies of God, and again condemned through Resolution 16 in 2000.

Sarah H. Leslie, a former Christian Right leader, describes the ideology of Dominionism:

‘The Gospel of Salvation is achieved by setting up the ‘Kingdom of God’ as a literal and physical kingdom to be ‘advanced’ on Earth in the present age. Some dominionists liken the New Testament Kingdom to the Old Testament Israel in ways that justify taking up the sword, or other methods of punitive judgment, to war against enemies of their kingdom.

‘Dominionists teach that men can be coerced or compelled to enter the kingdom. They assign to the Church duties and rights that belong Scripturally only to Jesus Christ. This includes the esoteric belief that believers can ‘incarnate’ Christ and function as His body on Earth to establish His kingdom rule. An inordinate emphasis is placed on man’s efforts; the doctrine of the sovereignty of God is diminished.’5

Leslie quotes from Al Dager’s Vengeance Is Ours: The Church In Dominion: ‘Dominion theology is predicated upon three basic beliefs: 1) Satan usurped man’s dominion over the earth through the temptation of Adam and Eve; 2) The Church is God’s instrument to take dominion back from Satan; 3) Jesus cannot or will not return until the Church has taken dominion by gaining control of the earth’s governmental and social institutions.’

    6

Sarah Leslie pinpoints to the central deception behind the current spread of Dominionism among various Protestant denominations across America today:

‘Dominion theology is a heresy. As such it is rarely presented as openly as the definitions above may indicate. Outside of the Reconstructionist camp, evangelical dominionism has wrapped itself in slick packages – one piece at a time – for mass-media consumption. This has been a slow process, taking several decades. Few evangelicals would recognize the word ‘dominionism’ or know what it means. This is because other terminologies have been developed which soft-sell dominionism, concealing the full scope of the agenda. Many evangelicals (and even their more conservative counterparts, the fundamentalists) may adhere to tidbits of dominionism without recognizing the error…

‘To most effectively propagate their agenda, dominionist leaders first developed new ecclesiologies, eschatologies and soteriologies for targeted audiences along the major denominational fault lines of evangelical Christianity. Then the 1990s Promise Keepers men’s movement was used as a vehicle to ‘break down the walls’, i.e., cross denominational barriers for the purpose of exporting dominionism to the wider evangelical subculture. This strategy was so effective that it reached into the mainline Protestant denominations. Dominionists have carefully selected leaders to be trained as ‘change agents’ for ‘transformation’ (dominion) in an erudite manner that belies the media stereotype of southern-talking, Bible-thumping, fundamentalist half-wits.’7

    Wasilla Assembly of God

Sarah Palin comes out of the circles of such Dominionist networks. Sarah Palin was reportedly re-baptized at age twelve at the Wasilla Assembly of God church. Palin attended the church from the time she was ten until 2002, over twenty-eight years. Palin’s association with the Wasilla Assembly of God has continued nearly up to the day she was picked by Senator John McCain as running mate.

Palin is now under investigation for possible improper use of state travel funds for a trip she made on June 8 to Wasilla. Her trip in turns out was to attend a Wasilla Assembly of God ‘Masters Commission’ graduation ceremony, and a multi-church Wasilla event known as ‘One Lord Sunday.’ At the latter, Palin and Alaska LT Governor Scott Parnell were publicly blessed, onstage before an estimated crowd of 6,000, through the “laying on of hands” by Wasilla Assembly of God’s Head Pastor Ed Kalnins, her former pastor.

The pastor, Ed Kalnins, and Masters Commission students have traveled to South Carolina to participate in a ‘prophetic conference’ at Morningstar Ministries, one of the major ministries of the Third Wave movement. The head of prophecy at Morningstar, Steve Thompson, is currently scheduled to do a prophecy seminar at the Wasilla Assembly of God. Other major leaders in the movement have also traveled to Wasilla to visit and speak at the church.

In his sermons, Kalnins promotes such exotic theological concepts as the possession of geographic territories by demonic spirits and the inter-generational transmission of family ‘curses.’ Palin has also been ‘anointed,’ by an African cleric, Bishop Thomas Muthee, prominent in the Joel’s Army movement, who has repeatedly visited the Wasilla Assembly of God and claims to have effected positive, dramatic social change in a Kenyan town by driving out a ‘spirit of witchcraft.’ 8

As Governor in Juneau, six hundred miles from Wasilla, Palin attends the Juneau Christian Church of Pastor Mike Rose, an Assembly of God Third Wave church.

Sarah Leslie describes the movement which has supported Sarah Palin for most of her life:

‘New Apostolic Reformation. This dominionist sect is a direct offshoot of the Latter Rain cult (also known as Joel’s Army or Manifest Sons of God). Chief architect of this movement for the past two decades is C. Peter Wagner, President of Global Harvest Ministries and Chancellor of the Wagner Leadership Institute. His spiritual warfare teachings have been widely disseminated through mission networks such as AD 2000, which was closely associated with the Lausanne Movement. A prominent individual connected to this sect is Ted Haggard, current head of the National Association of Evangelicals.’9

    C. Peter Wagner is quoted by Leslie defining his view of what he calls ‘The New Apostolic Reformation,’:

‘Since 2001, the body of Christ has been in the Second Apostolic Age. The apostolic/prophetic government of the church is now in place. . . . We began to build our base by locating and identifying with the intercessory prayer movements. This time, however, we feel that God wants us to start governmentally, connecting with the apostles of the region. God has already raised up for us a key apostle in one of the strategic nations of the Middle East and other apostles are already coming on board. Once we have the apostles in place, we will then bring the intercessors and the prophets into the inner circle, and we will end up with the spiritual core we need to move ahead for retaking the dominion that is rightfully ours.’– C. Peter Wagner

Wagner, who took over Haggard’s Colorado Springs center when the latter was forced to resign in disgrace, claims that there are as many New Apostolic Reformation churches in the US as Southern Baptist churches. The movement worldwide is estimated as high as 100 million people. And yet its impact is completely under the radar of most researchers outside of those in the movement itself.

An ‘end-time soldier in God’s army’?

All evidence suggests Palin was carefully selected by the leadership of the Bush-Cheney-McCain Republican party to galvanize the Party’s activist Evangelical base, something McCain had been unable to do.

Some theological and political background to the Joel’s Army or Third Wave movement as it is also known, is instructive. It teaches a radical fundamentalist creed that its adherents must actively engage in politics, to become what they term, ‘soldiers in God’s Army.’

The Joel’s Army movement focuses on recruiting young people to sessions of writhing on the floor in uncontrollable ecstasy, calling it a sign of the ‘Holy Spirit.’ Children as young as five speak of having ‘gotten saved.’ The movement is extremely authoritarian according to those conservative Christian churches who have studied and openly oppose the sect as heretical. It teaches a dogma that echoes the infamous Manichean line of George Bush following the shock of September 11, 2001: ‘There are two kinds of people in the World: Those who love Jesus, and those who don’t.’

Until recently a ‘general’ in Joel’s Army was a 32-year old Canadian, Todd Bentley. In one case, on YouTube, clips of his most dramatic healings have been condensed into a three-minute highlight reel. Bentley describes God ordering him to kick an elderly lady in the face. A report published by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a watchdog group, describes the Joel’s Army mass recruiting techniques of Bentley:

‘Todd Bentley has a long night ahead of him, resurrecting the dead, healing the blind, and exploding cancerous tumors. Since April 3, the 32-year-old, heavily tattooed, body-pierced, shaved-head Canadian preacher has been leading a continuous “supernatural healing revival” in central Florida. To contain the 10,000-plus crowds flocking from around the globe, Bentley has rented baseball stadiums, arenas and airport hangars at a cost of up to $15,000 a day. Many in attendance are church pastors themselves who believe Bentley to be a prophet and don’t bat an eye when he tells them he’s seen King David and spoken with the Apostle Paul in heaven…Tattooed across his sternum are military dog tags that read “Joel’s Army.” They’re evidence of Bentley’s generalship in a rapidly growing apocalyptic movement that’s gone largely unnoticed by watchdogs of the theocratic right. According to Bentley and a handful of other “hyper-charismatic” preachers advancing the same agenda, Joel’s Army is prophesied to become an Armageddon-ready military force of young people with a divine mandate to physically impose Christian “dominion” on non-believers.’ 10

Their name comes from their special focus on the Old Testament Book of Joel, Chapter Two. On his website, Bentley declares,

‘An end-time army has one common purpose — to aggressively take ground for the kingdom of God under the authority of Jesus Christ, the Dread Champion…The trumpet is sounding, calling on-fire, revolutionary believers to enlist in Joel’s Army. … Many are now ready to be mobilized to establish and advance God’s kingdom on earth.’

This past March, at a ‘Passion for Jesus’ conference in Kansas City sponsored by the International House of Prayer, or IHOP, a ministry for teenagers from the heavy metal, punk and goth scenes, one Joel’s Army pastor, Lou Engle, called on his audience for vengeance:

‘I believe we’re headed to an Elijah/Jezebel showdown on the Earth, not just in America but all over the globe, and the main warriors will be the prophets of Baal versus the prophets of God, and there will be no middle ground,” said Engle. He was referring to the Baal of the Old Testament, a pagan idol whose followers were slaughtered under orders from the prophet Elijah.

‘There’s an Elijah generation that’s going to be the forerunners for the coming of Jesus, a generation marked not by their niceness but by the intensity of their passion,” Engle continued. ‘The kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force. Such force demands an equal response, and Jesus is going to make war on everything that hinders love, with his eyes blazing fire.’

Joel’s Army believers are hard-core Christian ‘dominionists,’ meaning they believe that America, along with the rest of the world, should be governed by conservative Christians and a conservative Christian interpretation of biblical law. There is no room in their doctrine for democracy or pluralism. To paraphrase George W. Bush, ‘You’re either with us or you are against us.’

Joel’s Army followers are most often labile teenagers and young adults. They are taught to believe they’re members of the final generation to come of age before the end of the world. Sarah Palin was twelve when she first came into these circles.

Palin recently told interviewer Charles Gibson of ABC News that Georgia should be granted membership of NATO. When pressed on whether this would mean that the US would be obliged to defend Georgia if Russian troops went into the country again, she replied, ‘Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you’re going to be expected to be called upon and help…We have got to show the support, in this case, for Georgia.’ Is this Sarah Palin a stateswoman with foreign policy experience, or is it Sarah Palin the Dominionist who sees a potential war with Russia as part of an ‘Elijah/Jezebel showdown on the Earth’?

This is the background of the woman who might well become Vice President to a 72-year old President John McCain, a man reported to have severe skin cancer and other major health problems. According to the US Constitutional succession, should McCain be incapacitated or die in office, she would become President.

Right now if MCcain Palin win, they still have to deal with congress, I for one am not willing to hand this country over to the dingaling democratic party led by Barak Osama Obama!!!!! We are probably past the point of no return! Pardon the language but damned if you do and damned if you dont!! Many of the claims about the right wing conspiracy have yet to be proven! I dont have to make claims against Obama or Biden for that matter, all I have to do is look at thier voting record and the long list of discouraging statements that they have made!! Until someone can come up with hard evidence against MCcain-Palin and the vast right wing conspiracy I will NEVER consider voting for a group of people who openly court BABY KILLERS, GUN GRABBERS, GAY PROMOTING, FAMILY HATING, GOD HATING, UN LOVING, DESTROYERS OF THE US!!!!! In case I have not made myself clear NEVER!!! Let me take a couple seconds to catch my breath, OK MAY GOD CONTINUE TO HAVE MERCY ON AMERICA!! GOD BLESS!!

  84. Dear Jeff:

My mistake. You are that same Jeff that was posting here some months ago to general aggravation, right?

Vote for whomever you please. And I’ll do the same.

    Dear PeacefulHaven:

I make no excuse for John McCain’s divorce. He has said it is his “biggest regret” in his life or some other such language.

But keep in mind Reagan was divorced from actress Jane Wyman.

Ironically, it was Nancy Reagan, from the White House, who gave McCain the most “Guff” for divorcing his first wife, whom she was friends with. This splintered McCain for years from GOP insiders.

The facts surrounding his divorce have everything to do with his wife’s debilitating car accident while he was in Vietnam for basically a whole decade. When he got back, his wife was three inches shorter, he had physical deformities himself and it was not a good situation. Google it. Very sad.

ALSO take one look at the voting records of the dems compaired to the republicans. This is not drinking Koolaid as you put it these are facts!! 90. On Theocracy and Double Standards
    by David Limbaugh
In the next few weeks, we’re going to hear a lot of hot air from Joe Biden as he tries to recapture the spotlight from Sarah Palin. One thing I doubt we’ll hear from him is that rare sensible gem he uttered a few years ago about Democrats and people of faith. But he would do well to remember his fleeting words.

Biden said: “We have too many elites in our party who look down their nose on people of faith. … That’s the big problem with my party.”

You can say that again, Joe. But next time, you ought to try listening to your own words instead of just talking to hear your head rattle.

If Biden was sincere, why won’t he take issue with liberals in the media and elsewhere who routinely demonstrate their contempt for Christians?

Whether it’s Whoopi Goldberg hyperventilating about the separation of church and state, Charlie Gibson distorting Sarah Palin’s views on the intersection of faith and governance, or Obama himself disparaging small-town Christians for their unashamed reliance on the Bible, liberals just don’t get it. For them to occasionally pretend they do just adds insult to injury.

On “The View,” Goldberg asked John McCain, “So if you believe in the separation of church and state, did it not give you a moment of pause that Sarah Palin … (does) not have the same beliefs as you do about these things?”

I think we can safely infer that Goldberg was suggesting that Palin does not believe in the separation of church and state. Why? Presumably because Palin has said that she would seek God’s guidance in governing. Horrors!

After all, said Goldberg, America includes not only Christians and Jews but also Muslims, Zoroastrians and Wiccans. She asked of McCain: “Are you to govern this nation as God would have you do it, or do you govern this nation for the greater good of the people in it?”

Let liberals keep revealing their profound ignorance concerning the Constitution’s prohibition of the establishment of religion and guarantee of religious liberty. Let them continue broadcasting their belief that it is improper for public officials to humbly seek God’s guidance in discharging their duties. Let them showcase their convoluted view that a Christian public official can’t constitutionally govern unless he erects a Chinese firewall between his faith and his governance. Let them persist in displaying their misapprehension that Christian politicians, by virtue of their faith, are theocrats and cannot serve without discriminating against non-Christians.

ABC’s Charlie Gibson approached it from a different angle, trying to paint Palin as a theocrat who believes we are fighting a “holy war” in Iraq. Despite Gibson’s smug assertion that he was reciting Palin’s “exact words,” he specifically omitted key words and completely twisted her meaning. He misrepresented Palin’s exhortation that we pray for our troops and pray that they are doing God’s work as an affirmative statement that they (SET ITAL) are (END ITAL) doing God’s work.

Not that it would have been terrible for Palin to have rejected liberal moral equivalency arguments between Americans and terrorists and implied we have the moral high ground over homicide-bombing fanatics. But she didn’t say that. Palin has made clear she doesn’t believe she has a pipeline into God’s will or that she can speak for him — only that she would strive humbly to do his will and that she would continue to commune with him, in prayer and through reading the Bible. Again, horrors!

I hope liberals keep showing their open contempt for sincerely practicing Christians. I hope they continue to operate under the assumption they can scare Americans about Palin’s Bible-believing faith. But in the meantime, they might want to refresh their memories about American presidents and prayer.

Almost all of our presidents have relied heavily on prayer. But to be fair, let’s just look at modern Democratic ones.

In the middle of the Cuban missile crisis, President John F. Kennedy prayed at St. Matthew’s Cathedral. President Lyndon Johnson repeatedly called for national days of prayer and reportedly prayed a dozen times a day.

Jimmy Carter said: “There’s no doubt that during my time as president, I prayed more intensely and more fervently for God’s guidance than at any other time in my life. … The problems were so complex that I sought counsel.” Bible-toting Bill Clinton said, “I assure you that no president makes decisions like (an agreement with Haiti) without deep thought and prayer.”

Do you ever remember anyone accusing these Democrats of having alarming theocratic impulses?

Better yet, have you heard anyone in the liberal media criticizing Obama for his statement that he prays “to Jesus every night”? Or Joe Biden for urging people to pray that the levees in New Orleans hold?

    I wonder why not.

It was more like the other way around, and it was not my article, but hey who cares about the actual truth – your verbage indicates you do not, at least in this instance by calling it a ‘hit’ piece? AND if it is viewed by you as a ‘hit’ piece it indicates the very things I am warning about are justifiable reasons to be concerned and to urge caution in. You heard the thing about ‘don’t shoot the messenger because you do not like the message’, right? And so with this.

[And by the way even if they HAD picked up on a story I wrote and not vice versa, so what? If the facts are true and are not be 'ashamed' of, and the article as a whole is fair and balanced about the NAR, then what do you or anyone else have to fear from the democrats printing it?]

  97. Eurika:

If you want to criticise me, then at least do your homework properly and get your facts right before doing so. Otherwise it is you doing the ‘hit piece’ on me and ‘defiling’ my name, and not I on Palin.

The Huffington Post linked to this article before I even posted it here. I picked it up from them. If someone linked in a comments section on another Huffington Post article to here, that is by the by. And like I said before, so what WHO or WHAT linked to it, from wherever, if it is a fair and balanced article – and why should I be either proud or ashamed of it wheover picks it up? I cannot be proud as I did not write it, and I am not ‘proud’ anyway about any of my articles in the prideful sense, but I am certainly not ashamed of anything I do genuinely say and write, or even what I advocate when written by others. It can stand or fall before all on its own merits regardless of the political affiliation of any blog who carries it.

I notice you ignore all the actual real points, instead just attacking because of criticism for criticism’s sake. How are you any better than a Todd Bentley supporter refusing to listen to reason saying ‘touch not my anointed’? Surely you are more intelligent than that? Or perhaps not, perhaps I give you too much credit.

Are you the same kind of blinded and biased and prejudiced person who would refuse to hear testimony in a court of law against someone you like as to proveable FACTS because the witness did not vote as you like? What have you to fear of the truth, whoever speaks it? Only hypocrits and those who have something to hide fear the truth.

I have never said I support Obama, nor do I support him, nor would I rather see him in power – that is typical prejudiced blinded misguided patriotic claptrap – [I have actually said, for the record, that I think American voters are screwed as they are "between a rock and hard place" whoever they vote for this elections - and I have also written critical things of Obama] – but even if I did support Obama, which I do not, so what, if these facts about Sarah Palin and the NAR are true and in a balanced and fair article.

I do not think Palin is God’s choice. I actually think the opposite and God warns me about her, and I also think she is woefully inadequate. But whatever I think, or do not think, even if I did support her as a candidate it does not mean one should blind oneself to anyone’s potential faults and never criticise them. You really are no better than Nazi or Narzie type touch not my anointed brigage.

Please tell me how I can ‘defile Palin’s name’ by telling the truth? Please?!!! Are you that much of an idolotrous and ignorant republican that you refuse to hear the truth?

If you want to vote for Palin and McCain, then go for it – but do it with your eyes open aware of their faults and weaknesses. If you want to pray for your president, which the odds are Palin will be if McCain gets in, not just vice president, then know how to pray for her. I am not going to criticise or call you ignorant for voting for her by making a qualified and educated and PRAYERFUL choice. There is nothing ignorant about a republican voting with their eyes open, weighing up ALL the pros and cons, and I would also the say thing about a democrat voting with their eyes open weighing up ALL the pros and cons. But if you are going to blindly flag wave with rose tinted spectables while singing ‘God bless America’, and assume that someone must be great because they are a ‘Christian’ and ‘republican’ and refuse to listen to anything even impartial – then don’t cry to me if and when any such person you blindly vote for turns out to be a monster.

Did you know how the Nazis manipulated Germany in the 1930s and brainwashed people linking ‘God’s will’ with THEIR agenda and not God’s agenda, dressed up as patriotism and goodness knows what else, by the way? That has happened in America, and it is a real blindspot among most Americans. May God help you, and may the truth set you free. Vote as a free person and not as a manipulated patriotic clone. [There is nothing wrong with patriotism in its place, but when that gets confused with 'God's Will' and religion gets manipulated by politicians for THEIR agenda, and patriotism also becomes blinded idolatry then you are in trouble. And when that gets muddied further in the mix with Moral Rearmanent and Reconstructionism and Dominionism, then literally, God help you!]

  99. I quote from Bruce Wilson, the author of the article http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-wilson/youtube-censors-documenta_b_126202.html -

“We are examining the religious views promoted at Palin’s churches because the Third Wave / New Apostolic Reformation movement rejects pluralism and its followers believe they have been anointed by God to lead a unified superchurch into the final age – both of which have public policy implications.

Sarah Palin has every right to hold whatever religious views she chooses but, by the same token, the American people have every right to know what Palin’s religious beliefs are - especially to the extent that they may include the view that all other religious and philosophical views but her own are under the influence of demonic powers and that believing Christians must conquer the Earth and cleanse it of evil in this final generation.

Our primary focus is not with the hyper-charismatic manifestations, ‘outpourings,’ associated with the “Third Wave” movement in which those ’slain’, ‘washed’ or ’soaking’ in the spirit bark, howl and shriek, shake spasmodically, laugh or sob, crawl about on all fours, bang their heads on walls, and fall into stupors – all which the participants seem to enjoy. Neither is our main focus on problematic healing sessions, in which demons are expelled, that sometimes involve patients being kicked or head butted. Our focus is on beliefs behind these manifestations – such as the idea that these outpourings indicate that the participants are part of an “army of God” and comprise the final generation before the end times. Also problematic is that these healings and supernatural works are seen not as “divine intervention” by God but as the result of supernatural gifts imparted to those humans “anointed” to participant in ridding the world of evil.

From a standpoint of public policy it is significant that Third Wave doctrine teaches that their leaders are raising a generation of youth who will be imparted with supernatural powers and form a conquering Christian army. These youth, often referred to as Joel’s Army and as the generation born after 1973, will purge the earth in preparation for Jesus’ return. The movement features special gatherings of believers to use “spiritual warfare” to purge “territorial demons” and end “generational curses” in order to transform the cities of America and the world. Social reform thus takes place through the expulsion of demons.

Third Wave doctrine is an example of an extreme religious exceptionalism – not only are all other religious and philosophical belief systems on Earth seen as invalid and under satanic influence, but Third Wave theology sees all competing branches, sects and denominations of Christianity, particularly other conservative Christians who refuse to join “the river” of these outpourings, as an obstacle to God’s divine will. Third Wave adherents believe that other Christian churches must drop their competing doctrines, which prevent them from joining this final end-time army, and group together under the new authority of the Apostles and Prophets of this final age. In other words, true believers will join together, in one triumphant end time church, to do battle against evil in the final generation. C. Peter Wagner, a central figure in the organization of the movement, believes that this second Apostolic age began in 2001 and that it is “heralding the most radical change in the way of doing church at least since the Protestant Reformation.” He also claims that this international movement under the direction of his Apostles is the only large sector of Christianity growing faster worldwide than Islam.

Wagner and his Apostles monitor their progress through the World Prayer Center in Colorado Springs, attached to the New Life church formerly led by Ted Haggard. Leading Apostles and Prophets with titles such as “Generals of Intercession” go on spiritual warfare ventures with names like “Operation Ice Castle” – to attack the territorial demons which they believe prevent Muslims and Roman Catholics from embracing the true faith. In one such venture, one of the participants happily testified that she believed their efforts against the demon, “the Queen of Heaven”, may have resulted in the death of Mother Theresa.

The American public has a right to know that Sarah Palin, Alaska governor and now GOP vice presidential candidate, may hold such views. And YouTube, as an evolving Fourth-Estate media institution, has the responsibility of refraining from censoring efforts at informing the American public about Palin’s likely beliefs.

On June 8, 2008 in the Wasilla Assembly of God, her church of over 25 years, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin declared United States military forces in Iraq to be “out on a task that is from God.” Head Pastor of that church, Ed Kalnins, has also made statements indicating that he views the current conflict in Iraq as part of an apocalyptic end-times struggle. Palin recently stated her enthusiasm, in a widely televised interview, for war with Russia – a country that, along with the United States, possesses vast stockpiles of intercontinental nuclear ballistic missiles. The American public has a right to know if Palin believes, as does the Third Wave movement in which her churches take part, that she has a divine mandate or “anointing” to do battle to purge those she views as evil from the world.

Most Americans do not want an American jihad to conquer the world in the name of God let alone a global nuclear war. Judging from the churches Palin attends and from her public statements we have to take very seriously the prospect of having a Vice President, a heartbeat away from the United States presidency, who holds such apocalyptic goals.”

  100. How truly frightening!

I have heard rumors that Obama will select cabinet members who are militant Muslims. If I were so inclined to take a hand in my own demise, I would take my chances and vote for him. After all, it’s not Muslims (Dan. 11:40), but false “brothers” of whom we are warned (Mt. 10:36, among others).

I have visited one of these “Third wave” churches in my own home town and was immediately troubled in my spirit. While they tried to “love bomb” and flatter openly, I could recognize pagan-like catch phrases and the scripture that immediately came to mind was …

“but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God.” (Jn.16:2)

I doubt that I will vote at all (Jn.18:36), but this just points up the frightening nature of the world today; and more frightening still, that self-styled “evangelical” leaders, for greed of gain, will lead their willing lemmings to vote against their interests. “Moving America forward:” off the cliff!

  101. “Thinker” Thank you for your piece. I have Sarah Palin to thank for my coming out of this stuff. I have lost almost everything and have to start over learning how it “Feels” to just go by faith. I believe my daily reading of the Word kept me able to question some of what I experienced for twenty two years…. John McCain and Sarah Palin were my questions marks bringing me out of the Christian Right on Yes ONE ISSUE (I followed that twice before)into freedom. Anyone read about the Indian Casinos, and Rolling Stones Articles on John McCain? Amazing that the Keating issue was glossed over.
